From what I have read and remember from reading Victorio, Lozenges was a true ' seer '. She knew when Victoria's tribe was about to be attacked. She was a true warrior, who once helped a very pregnant Mescalero squaw deliver her child. Then helped both mother and child back to the reservation, crossing a couple of hundred miles over extremely desert terrain ( from memory ). Thus she was absent when Victorio was hunted down and killed. She must have been something to behold.
Thank you so much for uploading these videos about women warriors, they're so great. It's fantastic to see accurate portrayals of women warriors at last, and not the outrageous creations Patriarchy thinks are female warriors.
You forgot Siki she was awesome too. Let's not forget that all of those women that were with Geronimo were three quarters of his fighting force and this was ignored by the US Army.
Some of this info is incorrect or twisted in some way, Like our public school curriculum. But still amazing how lozen is talked about and remembered to this day.
I am Mescalero Apache. My father's father is Chiricahua Apache I have family that rode with and against Geronimo. Please tell me what is wrong with this story because I am not seeing it?
better than being conquered by the British look at the Aboriginals down there. least we got guns nd rights and the pursuit of happiness here like every other Americans here nd also I got to fuck alot of white women super hard for my ancestors. hell yeah last one was Ukrainian or something.
Yes, exactly! Education and society are key factors. I believe there have been female warriors in all cultures, only they were socially accepted in few, minorities in many, persecuted in too many. And Patriarchy has tried very hard to efface as many women warriors as it can (and women scientists, and the like), so that women can find no role models and believe that female warriors are rare, sporadic deviations from the norm. It's nice to meet someone who thinks like that too :)!
Are far more than "5-6 female warriors...." Are 100s of Celtic female warriors alone & 1000s in the ancient (pre-HIStory aka matriarchal) world. But alas, "'HIStory' is written by the victors," (men). HERstory has far different tales. (LOL indeed!)
I am Native and Celtic. Women took up the sword and hatchet many times to protect the vulnerable ones at home. In many cultures. It was the Church that came in an taught such things were not appropriate. If I am in a village or camp, it doesn't matter what I am. Inside I know I would fight so to try and protect the children. Boys as young as 7 or 8 would try to fight when they saw their mothers and little siblings being killed. Conquering is physical, but never surrendering is in the heart and soul. It can't be touched. Knowing what was wrong and what was right. The Creator is on the side of the persecuted indigenous people of the world. The Celtic people were indigenous people of Europe. They were also one of the most feared warriors in the world. Men and women.
You're right by the accounts that I have read Lozen wasn't that attractive, perhaps mostly because she dressed as a man and just like the men never really paid much attention to her appearance. Now there was another female Apache warrior name Dahteste of the Mescalero Apache who was married and had children but rode with her husband as a warrior in battle. I wish they had done an episode on her as well.
She was very attractive had many suiters . One warrior tried to have his way with her when she was young and refuse to marry him and she killed him broke his neck beat him to death with her bare hands . She was feared nd respected after that nd no man dared mess with her. I'm Apache we were all told these stories growing up by our elders nd Grandparents
Remember Mexico was way south not the American border line you know .Our territory is further south .Mexico was a small country . Those people on the the other side if that line were apaches and still are today. We know who our relatives are
Descendant of Lozen and Victorio? Given the very definition of the word, she can only be the descendant of one or the other as brother-sister relations would not have been allowed in Apache society.
What’s that supposed to mean? Unless “white Mexican”, you’re all descendants of various tribes of Mexico/central America that lived there prior to the arrival of the Spaniards and the conquistadors...and who taught the Natives to take scalps in the 1st place? The white man!
Let's bring the AMAZING & COURAGEOUS Lozen out of the closet; using today's vocabulary Lozen was an incredibly gifted Two Spirit person ( A Butch Lesbian.) I'm so tired of the hets trying to " figure out" & claim our LGBTQI historical figures as their own! This has rendered us invisible for centuries, & like the fierce fighter Lozen, I won't stand for it anymore!
"Amazon" has Warrior Women? Seems a little redundant, no? ;-) (Sorry, couldn't resist... LOL!) *And before I get a score of "informative" replies, *yes*, I KNOW the company was named for the river... It was a *joke*, fer gosh sakes!
This! Absolutely! Those depictions (Patriarchy's depictions of 'female warriors') don't show real female warriors. They are images of objectified women made for men, nothing more. Since when can anyone fight in high-heeled boots,a tight corset with all your breasts out and a tiny loincloth? Too many drawbacks, huh? Unprotected chest, femoral artery in thighs exposed, inability to walk or breathe...I wouldn't call that a warrior! Sorry too, I suppose ;).
