I've always really liked these, like ALOT. So, yeah especially the five-string model pictured here... I wish Andy would play the LOW B string when demoing it!!?!??
Somehow, for the Dolphi 4 and 5, the ovangkol/maple stripes neck sounded fuller than the traditional wenge+ovangkol or the full wenge neck like in the new ones. Maybe because the whole instrument sound is around the ovangkol body. I don't know what if the Thumb NT series basses get a full bubinga neck for their bubinga body? Because the traditional Thumb NT basses had wenge+bubinga neck, or later ovangkol and now they have the same multi-laminate full wenge neck like the Dolphins. Maybe a pair of full bubinga Thumb NT and a full ovangkol Dolphin NT would be the best custom shop demand...
Dude, don't get me wrong... I love that bass guitar but you just wanna make me slap you when you're rubbing it in that YOU get the opportunity to play that Warwick while the rest us peons can only look on and drool. Well done, mate. Peace! LOL!
Or just leave them the natural ovangkol or wenge. I have no idea how well bubinga takes to being made into veneer, but the woods they use for their necks are beautiful in their own right and shouldn't be hidden under that black cap. Plus it tends to lighten and get chalky over time, if my 96 Corvette is anything to go by.
