As a teen growing up in the Detroit area, I’ll tell you where Carmelo career got sidetracked. It was when the Detroit Pistons GM Joe Dumars decided to pick Darko, over Carmelo. That Pistons team would have been the perfect fit for a young Carmelo. Remember, he was a champ coming out of Syracuse. The mentality and leadership those vets would have instilled in him, would have made him a championship rookie and helped him build a solid foundation on how to win in the pros. He wouldn’t have had to be “the guy” right off the bat. He would have been able to learn a real system and unselfish basketball. Joe D ruined the Pistons for the next 10 plus years while simultaneously ruining Carmelos career because Mr. Dumars couldn’t see I to the future. That missed pick in 03’ ended up expediting the demise of the Pistons after 05 because they had no young talent to build around.

Iso-ball has been dead for at least since 2010. Carmelo hurt his career by forcing a trade from the Nuggets to the Knicks, and the problem is New York have to give up the entire team to acquire Anthony. Melo wanted the money and not the titles, he signed one more year than his buddies Wade, James, and Bosh so instead forced his way to New York.

It just occured to me how well he played in college and had the advantage that Kobe or LeBron chose not to get and that was playing in a system and the team game he did under Jim Boeheim in Syracuse that 1 year, in his freshman year and was MVP of the tournament I believe. He's had a great career, future hall of famer but it didn't translate to the league in terms of being a winning player.

I think that Portland is probably one of the few places that he would have worked. They were desperate for anything to change their season and he needed someone to give him a shot. I hope that it works out for, but only time will tell.
