Was God of War as Good as you Remember? 

I just replayed the entire series in chronological order it is my favorite series in all of gaming there is really not a bad God of War game imo.

To explain the thing about Fate and the Norns is this, The Norns cannot foresee all things to ever happen. All the Norns can do is see what choices people make or have made and then make a creepy accurate prediction that mostly comes true. The moment in which they changed destiny is when Kratos told his son that “He was wrong. Open your heart to their suffering.” That moment is what defied destiny which is your choices. Fate however is something different. Fate in this series is more accurately defined as the events which happen. For example in the 2005 game, the Oracle tells Kratos that the god of war will bring the destruction of Olympus. This was true as Kratos killed Ares and became the god of war, the same god of war that would bring the death of Olympus. They even talk about it after seeing the Norns where kratos talks about many prophecies coming true as people tried to advert fate, only to make said fate occur. I know it’s very difficult to understand, basically Destiny = Your choices, and Fate = Events.

Personally i found GoW 2018 to take a few hours to get into the story while with ragnarok i was hooked from the start

I definitely agree with your review, I am playing through GoW 2018 rn and i have seen the same problems especially with the non combat gameplay, but the puzzles are very fun. Also you should play mass effect next, that is one of the best games ever made.

the thing that GOW (2018) did really good job is the combat especially with the fist build, idk why they got rid of that in ragnarok...

I love the video, as I do with all of your video essays, I do disagree with your critique of the random voice lines that recommend you go do side missions in Ragnorak, since due to the story, you feel like you need to just get to the end. It naturally calls the player to take a step back and enjoy the world.

I like the Norse Kratos but I desperately miss the Greek Kratos and that gameplay 😔

This is a very good and well rounded review. ❤GOW 18 felt like devs were holding back content while GOW ragnarok felt like too much content cramped up together.

(Before watching this video) I will say one thing god of war 2018 did really good at reviving a franchise, but at some parts did feel like it stretched a story that felt like it could take an hour to explain. I love the game and the first god of war game that got me interested in the franchise. I played god of war 3 before but not interested in the story. After this game, it did and it did very good bringing me into Kratos head and what he thinks.

I think both ragnarok and 2018 were top tier for the times they were released, 2018 after the abomination that was god of war ascension brought back players back into the series in a way i think even santa monica wouldnt have expected, ragnarok admittedly has its story problems but in terms of combat, giving the main characters satiafying ends and setting up and some amazing villains in thor and odin is only second to gow 2 in terms of ranking the series. These are games which are amazing for different reasons where god of war 2018 is like season 1 of an epic norse show, ragnarok tried to do season 2 and 3 in one and obviously it was never gonna be enough without an rdr 2 level of runtime, but it still did its job of giving a satiafying conclusion and not to mention, the valhalla dlc makes the entire series pop and stand out where the most recent game makes all 7 of them stand out even better

Just stated playing it last week after getting Ragnarok for $30. Idk why I never played it before, I’ve had it from ps+ for awhile and I’ve been sleeping on it. Just got the blades of chaos and went to hel! Game is so good so far

Layered characters with development that you can follow and get behind, graphics that grab your attention with good detail and great showpiece moments, addicting combat with a good build system that gives you a variety of options. I must not understand what i good game is anymore if people are saying all that makes a bad game

As an Xbox guy who bought a PS5 as not to miss out on any exclusives. I've now played many Playstation exclusives and enjoyed them. GT7, The last of us, Death Stranding, Demon Souls are some of my favourites. However, I found God of war to be one of the most overated games of all time. Aside of trying to be a movie, I found the combat average, and next to no gameplay outside of combat, and the puzzled tedious at best.

There is xp to be gained through the challenges of doing all the moves a certain amount of times, this let's skilled players level up much faster

Im glad GOW got rid of platforming in the new ones , might be unpopular but the older I get the less I like platformers lol. I loved Elden rings combat, build options, weapons variety, world, boss design, etc but I hated the platforming, and there is soooo much of it. I never finished the full game because of it. I'm a huge gow fan and finished all the original trilogy as they came out and didn't mind platforming then but I'm happy it's not here. I may be in the minority here too but I enjoy the cinematic nature of a lot of the games nowadays. I feel like GOW balances cinematics and gameplay really well for my taste. I do agree gameplay is the most important part of a video game, but I feel like the gameplay is top notch, the combat is amazing, that's why I keep replaying the games , the combat. I do not think this is a perfect game, my biggest issue with Ragnarok is the story itself, the rest of the game I thoroughly enjoyed. It's one of my favorite games I've ever pkayed. Appreciate your review though, I 100% agree with you about the echo chambers that have formed around certain games where any critique or legitimate criticism is rejected. This isn't good, especially for video games, nothing is perfect and there are always ways to improve and legitimate criticism helps that happen moving forward. If only positive discussion around games is allowed they won't get better they'll probably only get worse. Anyway thanks for the effort and the video.

God of war 2018 and ragnorok are NOT true God of War games they were very lackluster cinematic movie games, 2018 wasn’t the worst cause I did enjoy it but compared to the Original trilogy these 2 games don’t hold up at all, the original trilogy are truly Phenomenal games.
