Today I welcome back in podcast regulars James and Sharon to discuss why partners cheat in relationships. It's a common burden the betrayed carry: that somehow they are the reason their spouse or partner cheated and they were not enough. Since they are then are responsible for their partner's cheating, they cannot draw boundaries, have hard expectations of their mate and are then powerless in their situation. From guilt, to shame, to massive frustration and disillusionment, betrayed partners wonder if there is a roadmap to follow? Today James and Sharon, both survivors of infidelity and expert clinicians share not only a roadmap but parts of their own grief on the way to healing and restoration. While hosting countless intensives with those in crisis due to infidelity, addiction, and various forms of trauma, they continue to be a bright light of hope and direction.

Whew! I really resonated with what Sharon says at the end. That “there will always be that part you will never understand”. I still allow my mind to wonder, probe the depths for some answers that I cannot fathom. I would not have done this to him, or as she states, my own worst enemy. That I can just lay that part down and be at peace with all the successes so far, the healing and the bad and good of the fallout ( yes, some real good has come of it), is relieving. Thank you and the both of them for a wonderful podcast.

i’m so behind in these but today I felt the need for something because it’s been a bad week and here it is exaclty what’s going on with us this week. They are great and so very timely.

The soul searching still doesn't resolve the doubts. My first husband was unfaithful. When I remarried 10 years later, my 2nd husband was also unfaithful. You bet I wonder what was it about me that caused 2 husbands too choose to cheat since I was the common denominator. Counselors, church deacons all tell me it's not me but them but honestly it sure doesn't feel like it. My husband and I have remained but the hurt, the insecurity remain and its crippling painful at times

One of my favorites so far!! Having both Sharon and James speak to their perspectives and experiences is so helpful and being unconditional really resonated with me along w the trauma response to neglect. I appreciate the feedback on the automatic labeling by others. Trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together may never happen and can be such a struggle for those needing answers thus heavily relying on faith is so critical to let go and stop controlling their healing. It is such a painful process trying to get to the other side.

I like the approach with this message, if only my wife would have been willing to consider it. Thank you so much Samuel, James, and Sharon. There is a ton of content out there that says the causes for cheating are the marriage, like the deeper issues are communication or intimacy problems, and so the road to recovery is focusing on those. My experience is that my unfaithful wife was validated by that at the expense of her accountability and responsibility. Good luck getting past the adultery after that.

Hi Sam. Can you get some content for unfaithful wives and beyrayed husbands? There is so little out there with tjis dynamic. My wife was unfaithful, and she finds it very hard to transfer these last few episodes to iur situation. It seems like the last few shows ficus on just men that cheat. We have watched many if the AR videos Thank you.
