Being from Philly I'm well acquainted with the Jersey sound. I find both Bruce and John's music to be credible and both musically stand on their own.

i love john cafferty & the beaver brown band! ...im a fan & own most, if not all, of their complete collection of work, including the new greatest hits album i just got last week... & nothing against bruce, i mean afterall, he did have that ONE decent song... born to run... & i do like that song, enough so that its actually on my playlist... but comparing bruce to a great all american rock n roll band with SO MANY GREAT SONGS in their arsenal like john cafferty & the beaver brown band is just unfair ...cafferty for the win please sir! ...thank u gentlemen

I always liked his song Victory Dance. They'd play it when my college won a game. And we'd go to the middle of the dance floor and dance with our pointer fingers high up in the air! One thing I liked about this interview is John Cafferty's honesty. He's very humble and unpretentious. He could've gotten annoyed or defensive when you asked him about On The Dark Side. I remember learning how to play the chords E-A-D-A-A.

I remember when it was released I felt immediately that it was a bad Springsteen cover. It didn't take much more than that piano intro and then his deep Bruce aura. Sax solos, heavy piano and hard guitar chords to a driving beat making the melody hard but friendly. But then again we were being fed "Dancing In The Dark" so it was welcomed to hear Bruce in another form. "Tender Years" was nice, "C-I-T-Y" was simple, but "Dark SIde" worked for us heavy Springsteen fans out there that had had enough of "Dancing In The Dark". Not to take away from Born in the U.S.A. "Downbound Train" and "Cover Me" are highly amazing numbers, but Cafferty helped balance that sound.

I had the same reaction to that song. I was 13 and there just seemed to be something magical about that song, and, of course, it will always be connected to the movie. I had just started playing guitar, but when the song came out, I remember going to the piano and picking out that opening piano part.

John Cafferty grew up near me and we would go see them play all the time in Rhode Island. Especially his Summertime shows along the Rhode Island Shore. They played shows everywhere in New England and never forgot their roots and fan-base. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band put on dynamite shows. I thought they're more like early J. Geils Band than Bruce Springsteen.

So now I know why they came to my college at SMU Southeastern Massachusetts University in North Dartmouth or South Dartmouth. It's been many years since I graduated as I'm dating myself. But I remember them when they just were starting out and had a hit song
@robertalmeida3180
@robertalmeida3180 Год назад
@@l.t.w8985 I was at that show at SMU. I first saw them as an 18 year old, 1973, in Newport, RI in a bar that I can't exactly recall the name of. As JC stated, they played, we danced, the bar sold beer, ...all night. Then in a few short years people stopped dancing and it became like a small concert in a small bar. Next came venues that were larger, more far away and more difficult to get into unless you went to so many you were almost a recognized groupie outside in line and someone would let you in . They played at the RI Auditorium on North Main St in Providence and you knew then that the bar band you first started following was onto bigger and better things. The original line up was, in my opinion the best. Probably because it was the first I knew. ( no one likes change but life happens) RIP Pat Lupo and Bobby Cotoia...Kenny Joe Silva from Fox Point, Providence was a great drummer. anyway, I could go on for hours......

I saw Beaver Brown twice in the 1980's (before I saw Eddie And The Cruisers) and drank a beer with Mike Antunes and Frank Lupo after one of the shows. All I can say about the musical style is the band shared the same influences with Steve/ The Jukes and the E Streeters - Some of the best music ever made.
@pulsarlights2825
@pulsarlights2825 Год назад
Bruce had a few early bands, like Steel Mill, that tries to sound like hard rock. Steve Van Zandt always claimed the E Street band initially tried to sound like Van Morrison's early work, "Astral Weeks" and "Moondance"...

Some of the best nights of my life were spent in R.I. beach clubs drinking and dancing to Beaver Brown. Next week I can see them again, at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Sad to know that Pat and Bobby have died. But I can't wait to relive those old times and introduce that sound to my own adult children. Poor kids...gonna hear their Dad sing songs they've never heard before.

That movie was a strange set-up, as it had a lot of competition and initially lost money in the theaters. On cable it literally came alive. One roommate watched it nine times, "It's a movie about real people, just like us, working to become musicians."" That had more than a ring of truth to it. The focus wasn't on being mobbed by crowds, but on moving up in the ranks and the misfortunes that naturally happen in the business. Later I'd come upon those who would claim "I've been listening to Eddie and the Cruisers since the 1960s." That's not what happened..

Springsteen looked like a complete FOOL in that Obama interview. He let that guy take total control of him. He sat there like a ventriloquists dummy with Obama putting all those nasty words in his mouth about Clarence. Saying that Bruce only let Clarence in the band because he felt sorry for him because he was black. Clarence must be rolling over in his grave. Clarence was a great musician and person.
