I give him the most love for what he has done/is doing for people like himself who have had/still suffer from speech-impediments. I commend him for giving people who were afraid to have a voice, a voice...NBA-wise, I can't pinpoint an era where he was anything more than an ESPN-highlight. A sick alley-oop/tip jam, or a block to the 12th row?? No real jumper, not the rebounder he should've been...Given his God-given athleticism, he should've been way better.....Not a bust, but not anything to remember either.
I think stunt #2 & 3 killed his career. I thought coming outta Cincinnati, he was gonna be a consistent all star/maybe HOF player. I also think maybe he was too real a dude
Long time nets fan...glad we didnt pay him I WAS a big KMart fan while in NJ but for what he wanted, wasnt worth it...ownership got cheap tho but that's a whole nother story smh
@Magic MushroomStunt Number 1 for Chandler: Bill Cartwright tried to make him a SF at the start of his career. Think of how insane that seems 20 years later.
@@301.allday you might be right, but I don't recall him ever having NBA level ball handling and even at his peak he wasn't exactly Jokic as a passer. But playing him on the wing was a disaster and I would have sworn he was going to be as big a bust as Kwame at the time. Instead he became one of my favorite bigs of the era and finally gave Dallas the center they had been looking for since the franchise began in 1980.
we need a stunted growth for Kevin Martin... he was low-key a beast at scoring, he could shoot the 3 well! i thought he was a good player but came in the wrong era. during this era, i think he would strive even more! was his growth stunted?
I consider him underrated in many aspects, he was a quick defender for his size, covered Kobe in the finals many times (did better then most pfs), was a good mid range shooter
Put some respect on my boy K-Mart's name! He made it to 2 NBA finals back 2 back. He was a beast on the boards & on the defense. Never backed down! 1 of the best unselfish team 1st guys. Salute
Fun fact: Kenyon Martin, Jamaal Magloire, and Michael Redd(my favorite player) were the only members of the 2000 draft to become all stars and played in the same game which was in 04. You should do a video on Magloire as well.
I was watching a Cincinnati game vs. Memphis where Martin had like 4 blocks in the first half... the dude was crazily athletic, he just jumped out of the gym
@@stuntedgrowth College was he peak athletically. Let's not forget he blew his knee out senior year. He was never quite as athletic. I think he was a good as he could be in the NBA
@KingChrisM Beasley is a good shooter he just didn't play like a sf/pf should have had him at shooting guard bc he wasn't a good defender on forwards but was a good scorer
chiefs816kc Swift had a lot of talent, but not a feel for the game. He got exposed by a Wisconsin team in the tournament made up of slow, short white dudes. 😂
Lol you beat me to it!! that class was awful. Other than Gasol - he was the one. and European scouting wasn't that good back then so he was the best known american player - in a AWFUL CLASS. in a normal year? He's the 9th pick at best. He maxed his growth
I was talking about that possible lineup the other day. The Nets could of had a 3rd and 4th finals appearances and possibly gotten a ring. It was the whole moving to Brooklyn distraction and they wanted to save money. Bad mistake for the franchise.
K Mart's main job was to stop the fast break opportunities. Most NBA players are poor scorers in the half court and good teams depend heavily on easy, fast break opportunities and open shots in transition. That Nets team with him, Kidd and Richard Jefferson did a lot with a little. You won with defense back then.
Knee injury, knee injury, knee injury. He had an incredible career after injuries that would have sent lesser men to the couch. He played 15 seasons, made well over $100M, and his teams were 11-11 in playoff series. The man won at the game of life and excelled at basketball.
Cincinnati born and raised and i love the videos on bearcat alum. Keep em coming please. Kmart was a beast at uc. That team beat duke. We were primed for a championship but kenyon got hurt. I met him once and he signed my jersey and autographs for all the kids. He was super humble and nice. Mom even met him once and she said the same. Seems like a stand up guy. Used to love watching him and those bearcat squads.
Mashburn isn't a stunted growth , but DEFINITELY deserves a maxed out series. For his achievements on and off the court. He is one of the most business savy players off the court. This dude owns soooo many business in Kentucky. He used his legend in that state to the fullest!! He is THE example for young players of how to invest your money wisely
Kenyon wasn’t a bust but he was in a weak draft class so he went #1 but he definitely wasn’t a #1 overall caliber player. Still had a pretty good career tho
You probably have the best post yea it was a weak class but any team would of loved to have k mart he was physical athletic he wasnt franchise changing but definitely not a bust
I believe personally K-Mart was ahead of his time IMPO because he was solid in his era & he could’ve at least evaluate his game in a way. I just think them injuries killed his career. But hey that’s just my personal take on it... Keep doing your thing with these amazing videos Homie & don’t forget about My Guy Frank Mason whenever you get a chance to... Anyway to anybody that’s watching this remember y’all, Keep Going & Be Safe 🤟🏾💯
Nets fan. Calling bs. Kidd is a great pg. But if you're garbage it's nothing he can do. RJ and Kmart showed they could produce without Kidd. Kidd just made things easier. He's a great pg. Kmart is in no way Clint or DJ. He was just a thin small pf. Not a great scorer. But he was a 12ppg scorer before Kidd. He used his speed to slash. Had a inconsistent jumper. But he had one. A floater and a hook shot. You dont explode for big scoring games in the playoffs and finals with no skills. The dude had ❤ but he couldn't put weight on.
Cant call a undersized power forward a bust. He battled through every injury in the book and remained a starter and important part on nearly every team he was on.
Salute and respect stunted growth...Kenyon Martin not a bust but could play some defense plus didn’t back down from no one.. would’ve had a longer career had it not been for injuries..glad Kenyon is doing fine and well and keep up the good work...
He's not a bust. He was a #1 pick but not all #1 picks are created equal. He was never that skilled offensively in college, he was a really good player in a down year in the draft. If you expected him to be a franchise altering pick then your expectations were too high because he was never that. He was a good player for a long time and that's all he looked like he was going to be.
If u are the 1st or 2nd best player on a team that makes the playoffs, then u are not a bust. Kenyon not only made the playoff but he made the finals. And if it wasnt for shaq and kobe he would be a champion
When ability wise, you’re in the same sentence as Stromile Swift and Tyrus Thomas. Two dudes also with limited game that’s mostly just dunking and lands you in injuries.
He maximize his talent. Small frame weight wise but strong as hell, high motor, offensively challenge, athletic, heart and plays hard every single night. Growth was stunted. Great college career and solid pro career
Nets fan. Kmart was a rock solid player star in his role. He coulda went to the Heat 2011-2012 but said didnt want to cuz he felt hed be misunderstood it sucks dude had the perfect shot at a ring didnt buy in
As a teen in 2000's...and being from NJ....I can assure you Kenyon was not a bust...let's not forget he was also one of the first bigs to start developing the 3
Martin was a good player. He became a pretty good defender. He never really developed his offensive game. He was definitely not a bust. There have been several players who have been picked number 1 that can be considered busts. And there were several others that had very solid careers like Martin. Since 1980, here are probably the best players who have been picked number 1: JAMES WORTHY. HAKEEM OLAJUWON. PATRICK EWING. DAVID ROBINSON. SHAQ. CHRIS WEBBER. ALLEN IVERSON. TIM DUNCAN. YAO MING. LEBRON JAMES. BLAKE GRIFFIN. DERRICK ROSE. DWIGHT HOWARD. KYRIE IRVING. ANTHONY DAVIS. ANDREW WIGGINS. KARL ANTHONY TOWNS. BEN SIMMONS. DEANDRE AYTON. ZION WILLIAMSON. These are arguably the top 20 number 1 picks over the past 41 draft years (since 1980). Here are arguably the 6 worst number 1 picks since 1980. I believe these would be considered the biggest number 1 draft busts since 1980: Markelle Fultz. Anthony Bennett. Greg Oden. Kwame Brown. Michael Olowokandi. Pervis Ellison.
@stuntedgrowth, love the videos man. Wish you would do a video on a guy who I grew up with named Hassan Adams. He’s a former McDonald all American and Arizona Wildcat. Look forward to your videos in the near future. “Let’s get it”
KMart was one of my favorite players growing up ! I loved to watch him @ cincy that team was fun to watch. They should of won the ship until he got hurt
K-Mart was and still is my favourite NBA player. He did mostly what his team needed him to do and his dunks were just brutal and powerful, in a way a work of art.
Yes 😅 and was one of my favorite players coming out of Cincy also his last year the college PlayStation game he was one was the best one ever plus he was a beast on it !!!
BRO i dont know how the fok you dont have a HALL OF FAME vote. You broke this down PERFECTLY. KMART would have been a perfect 80s player. LOVED him on the NETS.
I don’t think Kenyon grew to be the player fans thought he would be in the NBA, but I still believe he was a very exciting player!!!! I know the Nets & Nuggets appreciate him....
No way he's a bust he's a BEAST to even come back from that broken leg to have a nice NBA career for a dude who wasn't a main scorer in the league. Respect KMART!
You say that many thought he’d be generational player, but the draft class he came out of was super weak, and the people I remember projecting how his career’d go told me he’d be, at best, a career 15-point player.
K-Mart was a beast with those dunks and intensity. used to love when he would dunk and the Nets PA announcer would say..."K-Marrrrrrrrrrrtttttttt". The crowd would go crazy
I'm from Flint, Michigan I would like for you to do one on high school class of 1985. We have guys and girls that have been professional in the big 4 of sports and boxing. Some have won championships and Olympic medals in their respective sports and let the world know how many people from my city beat any other city per capita for producing athletes. If it not too much to ask one or two on the years prior and after. Thanks.
Him & Mike Miller was the best of that 2000 draft class. People might consider him a bust because people expect the #1 pick to be a generational talent & that’s just not the case in most draft classes.
Kenyon Martin at his peak 16ppg, 9.5 rebs, 1.5 steals/blocks and occasionally hit a 3. watching him in college thats about right. i never saw him as a generational guy or someone who was going to blow you way just a solid grit and grind player and i'm surprised anyone though otherwise.
If AI had been in his prime while playing with Carmelo Anthony in Denver they would have made some noise together!! I saw Iverson play at the Palace of Auburn Hills when he played for the Pistons, and he still had over 30 points and the game was an entertaining Detroit win that night!!
