We went to Santorini last year immediately after Greece reopened post-pandemic and had a similar experience with very few people. We even had a couple of meals as the only patrons in the restaurant. It was wonderful and it'll likely never be like that again.
Hello again. I am very glad that you enjoyed your time in Greece again! I think you will be happy to know that there is a street with your 'name' in the center of Athens in Syntagma ("Constitution") square. The name of the street is Fillelinon meaning "friends of Greeks" actually named after the foreigners who helped us during our war of freedom/independence from the Ottomans, but now days by extending the context it can certainly fit people like you !
I loved Naxos series! For the future you should also consider the beautiful small towns of southern Peloponnese (Nauplion, Gytheio, Pylos, Monemvasia, Areopoli, Methoni etc) or one of the Argosaronic islands like Poros or Hydra. A bit different than the Cyclades but suitable destinations for October!
At the places mentioned above, everything is open. Cyclades have a huge percentage of their GDP coming from summer tourism... At low season there is no such interest either from Greeks or foreigners.. At islands of the Saronic, tourism is not such a huge source of income.. plus you can find many ferries which come and go many times within a day from/to Piraeus.
@Valerio Peralta Thanks for the education, I just googled mangu 😊. I always go by mofongo when in the DR. I especially love the one mixed with chicharron yum!
Thank you for showing us other sides of the Greek Islands. I went to Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, and Rhodes in 2006. I know they are touristy but still had a fantastic time. I would love to see you guys visit Meteora on the mainland.
hello.. so happy you guys had and awesome time in Greece... found about you guys when you did your Greek food tour.... to answer to your last question i recomend the island of lefkada known for its crystal blue beaches.. it also has a town so you will not have any problem with restaurants or stores being closed... everything is always open. its also the only island that you get there by car since its connected to a bridge. the bueaty of lefkada is breathtaking...
We have loved this series and so happy you decided to stay for a month. We visited Santorini 2nd week in November (2019) we felt it was perfect the weather, prices, plenty of restaurants open and no crowds. Looking so forward to more adventures from you two! ~Cara 💖
Love watching your videos… My wife and I have become obsessed with Greece the last several years…. We’ve been to Santorini and Mykonos, are going again in May of this year, and now because of your Naxos series, are already planning on a 2024 trip to Naxos… Thanks for all the great information in your videos, it’s extremely helpful.
We're so glad you find the videos helpful and that you're going in 2024. Naxos is the perfect island honestly. It has so much to do and we didn't even see it all 😀
Thank you for the great video. I am a Greek American living in LA. Love Greece of course its my birth country and thank you for showing it in such a warm and lovely light. In answer to your question what island to do next in the quiet season that is not windy. Wholeheartedly Crete. So much to do , so much to see. Safe travels guys.
that donkey was there last year when I was walking around that town, i fed him my apple core from the hotel. gorgeous! Crete is the Island I would pick to visit, it's large and has tons of this to do and never shuts down.
good to know that some of your favourite destinations are in my country! There are so many iconic islands, not necessarily well known to all, to visit! Let say a few out of the cosmopolitan Mykonos and Santorini.Milos, Paros, Amorgos, Serifos, Anafi (in Cyclades, ) and the beatifull Simi, Astypalaia (in Dodecanese) are some of my beloved destinations!
Loved your pictures of Apeiranthos. I took a picture of a donkey poking its head out of a side alley at the top of a set of marble stairs. I believe that it was the same stairs, and perhaps the same donkey, that you encountered.
We were in Santorini second week of October this year, Fira was not packed but oia was. We had 25 to 28 degree days and only one windy day. No rain! We explored the island . No one was at the black beach and red beach was enjoyable with a few more people. We travelled with two children 7 & 9 and it was really the best timing of year. Very Late September we went to Ornos, Mykonos and it was amazing too ( just a tad out of the hustle and bustle no crowds). I wouldn’t want to be there in peak. We also went to Paros first week of October and it was 30 degrees every day! Already planning to go back next sep/ October. I really don’t know how we didn’t bump into you!
Great show guys, enjoyed the entire Naxos series, great job! If you are ever considering a smaller island that is off the traditional beat and path, check out Elafonisos at the end of August/September…incredible beaches, friendly people and really easy to navigate as the island is tiny - cheers!
@@DelightfulTravellers I was there last summer with my wife right at the beginning of September and the island was very quiet, we had the best of both worlds, amazing weather in the 30s+ and three incredible beaches to our selves. I posted a video on the island as well on my channel a little over a year ago. Looking forward to your next travel adventure guys!
Ηι! I am so happy you ennoyed your staying in Naxos. Next time you come to this part of the word, try a place called Pelion. It's on the main land close to the sea and something different than the islands. Enjoy yourselves wherever you go whatever you do.😂
Naxos is our relaxation station. We seem to get drawn back there when we need a break. Love that island, but never been in October, I don't think. Loved the vid guys!
Very nice videos i really like them guys.I think you will be amazed too if you go visit the islands that are near Athens.Spetses,Hydra and Ermioni.Ermioni is a village in Peloponnese area but is like an island and very very beautiful.Anyway the hall country is beautiful thats why many said is gods garden.
I love your videos from Greece! We are also big Greece enthusiasts and have already been to 30 islands and also on the mainland. Tip for you: go to Chios, a beautiful island with a nice capital and not so touristy. Kind regards from the Netherlands.
If you want to have an exceptional time with quiet and beautiful areas I suggest the mainland. The peloponnese! It's a bigger area but you can find whatever you need and lots more! 😀
I lived on the island of Crete for 2 years. Best 2 years of my life. Greeks know how to live life to the fullest. 20 years later, I wish I would have moved back. In 1992, it was difficult to purchase property there. The people, food, history, customs, and traditions…everything.
Great videos of Naxos! You should try going north to Skiathos and neighboring Skopelos(Ma Mia was filmed there) for your next Greek adventure. If you loved Naxos, you will truly love these two islands as well!
Ii would definitely go to Crete, largest island of Greece so you will surely get more options in October - November, I would stay in Chania or Rethymnon, both awesome, Chania is a bit more beautiful but Rethymno has a bit better food, can't go wrong either way, just go for the one with cheaper accommodation to use as your base while exploring a gorgeous island. P.S. my wife and I are planning to visit Crete in 2023, I just wish there were direct flights from Toronto. Keep up the good work with your channel.
Ok then let me mention a couple more islands. Just FYI I am Greek Canadian, my wife is Canadian, I grew up in Greece and came in Canada in my mid 30s, so any islands I mention are from past experience, Skiathos is a good destination as well. You can actually use a camping beach as your home base, or you could anyway, haven't been for quite some time lol. Now, if you like a bit of hiking, good food and probably the clearest waters in the world I would say go to Paxoi & Antipaxoi. Clearest waters in the world is not an exaggeration but absolutely true. Fan fact Fujicolour used to shoot their promos there all the time. Finally if you are into quaint little islands with tons of ancient ruins then Delos is your spot. Hope that helps a bit, keep up the good work, looking forward to more videos! Cheers from Toronto!
This time of year you sure must go to bigger islands, as you said. That Includes Rhodes (Rhodos) of course. Other choices are Syros (if you still want to stay around Naxos) which is the capital of Cyclades (they even have a casino :P ), Crete (but maybe too big for you). Then moving to Eptanisa maybe Kerkyra (Corfu) or Kefalonia ( i would also say Lefkada which have the great plus that you can go by car but its mostly famous for the incredible beaches rather than the town). Finally you could go to Skopelos (Sporades region) but i have no info for this time of year. As a conclusion ill say 2 of favorite islands which are Ithaki and Alonissos (which are way to greener compared to Cycladic islands) Have fun!
Great suggestions! We came from Corfu so we wouldn't go back there as it was way too rainy. We've been to Crete and luv it but Rhodes might be the perfect spot really. :) - Trevor
Hi really enjoyed your vids as stayed at naxos and a few other islands this summer, can you share your accommodation details as looked fab,and would consider booking it in the future, thanks
Hello travelers wish you have pleasant trip to Athens I’ve been to naxos last summer it was amazing and everything was great I loved the food and the beach also and I would like to compliment your work and your thorough information thank you As for your next trip I guess you will go to indonesia
In response to your question at the end of the video. Whilst the Cyclades islands are the driest region in Greece throughout the year (and especially during the winter months)...with only approx 375mm of rain per annum...weather-wise, I don't think they are the best place to visit during the Autumn shoulder season (ie: Oct/Nov)... As you have already found out, the constant winds can be somewhat annoying at times and especially as the summer temps start to cool off and in OCT/NOV they can definitely make the Cyclades "feel" rather chilly, especially in the late afternoon or evening, etc. In OCT/NOV I therefore think that Crete or Rhodes are your best bet weather-wise overall. They will be (and feel) the warmest locations, plus in general, places such as Chania, or Rhodes City will have a lot more things open as they are regular (working/living) towns that function fully all year round, etc. Also, as one moves eastward towards Asia Minor, the Autumn weather stays nicer longer, so Rhodes can definitely have some really nice days right through the month of November and even into early December with temps remaining around 21-22°C. The south coast of Crete is also very similar too. However, I must be honest here and say that Greece isn't a winter destination (especially from a weather standpoint) and around the 10th of December at the latest...it's really time to head further south. Nearby Israel is the closest location which does stay warm during the winter months, especially in the Beit Shean Valley & Dead Sea areas, and of course Eilat on the Red Sea. I know you have already visited Israel for a short stay...but the country does have so much to offer, and the local cuisine is absolutely amazing. The Canary Islands are of course the closest WARM winter destination to Europe. I like Tenerife the most out of all those islands. IF you do decide to visit Greece again for a long stay during the off-season, I would recommend renting an apartment or small house for 6 months on Crete or Rhodes and truly immerse yourselves into the daily life of Greek living...cooking meals at home, chilling, and doing completely non-touristy stuff. You will enjoy it... Until then 😎
@@jimjim8645 Yes Jim, everybody knows this 😎 they are geographically located off NW Africa...ie: Morocco However, as part of Spain, they are of course geo-politically also part of the EU zone and Europe. Plus, I merely stated that the Canaries are the closest WARM winter destination to Europe...not that they are geographically located actually in Europe.
Rhodes or Crete is the best place for that time of the year otherwise try Athens and have a great Christmas time and goes to Trikala even for a couple of days cause is the place for Christmas time in Greece.
Informative thanks !! Try Paros, Corfu, Crete or Rhodes. Maybe Evia. Samos. As for other countries, besides Spain or Portugal how about Croatia :) Cheers !
Sad to see you leave Greece :( but excited for the next adventures!! I am still vacillating between retiring in Athens or to Nea Artaki on the island of Evia which is a slow paced fishing village and where I have family. Decisions, decisions...lol...cheers my friends!
I’m really happy you guys are enjoying yourselves! Been to most of the Cycladic Islands. Just not this late in the season. Glad to see some life in Naxos!
what most of the people doesnt know is that cold coffee start in Greece in the 50s in Thessaloniki with the Frappe coffee the first cold one ever, and after all those years the evolution is all those knew coffees with Italian names, so yes Greece is the capital with the best cold coffe in the world
Wow! A month went by really quickly. Naxos looks so charming, particularly with the little horses wandering down the stairs! I don't think I'd be able to deal with that wind though. That looked pretty intense.
Hi you two, I have really enjoyed watching your time in Greece, my favourite place, Rhodes is a special place for us and October is beautiful there, I can’t wait to visit again soon, but there are so many other places in Greece that need to be visited, take care 👍🇬🇷🌺🌺
Time in Greece is over already?! Wow time flew by fast 💨 🕰. Good to hear you enjoyed your stay there and I’m so excited and curious to see where your next adventure takes you next!
great vids u have, im also interested to rent an apartment for 1 month but i dont know where to look for. how did u guys find that beautifull place? did u went to the island and asked there or did u find it in internet ? i would love to know the website u used if u found it online.
@@DelightfulTravellers yes your right there but its a beautiful place perth is Amazing been here for 20 years cant wait to see your next stop take care ❤
I am shocked. It looks like the Cycladic Islands have been replaced with buildings. So sad. I wanted to go to Greece to see Greece, not to buy an iced coffee.
If anyone comes to Greece on holiday PLEASE bring a cat home with you!!! People think all the cats are a charming part of Greece but they are mostly strays, starving and sick. A local vet will help you make the arrangements. PLEASE helps the cats of Greece by giving them a home. Especially if they bond with you and are love starved. Many times they get poisoned. Same with dogs. Bring a dog home if you can. Otherwise yes Greece is wonderful!
Why are there no animal shelters in Greece? They can offer adoptions. The cats I found to be very friendly Greek Cats, one of them jumped onto my lap. How did it pick me out over the rest?
Great series!!..Looking forward to your next adventure! Will you be making your way to Mexico in 2023?...If you have the opportunity you must do The Azores!!...Viv
I just love apariontos and Patmos. Greece looks wonderful. Colin and i enjoy your travels. Thank you for your shares. Our dreams are being lived through you. Merci Carolyn and Colin from Canada. Enjoy dears.
I loved your series on Greece. We are coming for 6 weeks in May / June. We would like to stay in Chora but we’re hoping for a pool. Could you please tell me if you’d recommend the place you stayed. Cheers Deb
Personally i almost never visit the same place twice even when it is fantastic, Greece in particular has infinite islands that are very beautiful and definitely worth going. My guess for where you will be going next is Egypt, even tho i believe Portugal would be perfect for you as well.
@@DelightfulTravellers 🤔I was trying to think where it’s Warm right now and another part of the world. I’ll have to look back and see where you’ve been and haven’t been. This could take me awhile 😂
