It is true football wasn’t the same back then, but if Pele didn’t excist football wouldn’t be the same today. We have to respect the classic players always!!
Yes football wasn't the same in earlier eras, often footballers of those earlier eras.Had to face far more rough and dangerous reckless tackling from the opposition faced. And played on worse quality pitches, had to wear heavier boots, and played games with footballs that had no waterproofing and had an outer case that had what looked like shoelace keeping the inner blader in place. And when those footballs got wet they also became heavier too.I am of an age where I used to play with such a football back in the early 1970s, as a young boy.And a modern football is easier to play with in matches.
@Top10 you mean liars who discredit everything from past era’s without acknowledging that sport materials got advanced and not the players but since sports materials advanced it makes footballers perform much more, but if those old players did have them they would have delivered the same
I played at thé end of sixteens and in thé beginning of eighteens .Football is much more easier in thé eighteens .All my respect to all old players .Some people don t Know what football is .
It really doesn't matter how good pele was or wasn't, what does matter is his legacy. Its really unfair to compare modern football players to the old legends from the past, standards have gotten higher and higher especially in the last 10-20 years
@@haris2997 due to your vocabulary I can safely say you’ve never watched him play, although I haven’t either, you can’t judge a player over only what you’ve seen
7:38 Yes Pelé did score that goal. Brazilian local newspaper reports dating back to that day testify that fact that Pelé in fact did score by flicking the ball over 2 defenders and the goalkeeper before heading it into the goal. You can find pictures of that news report in a video called "Pele goals de placa". The video shows the two best goals in Pelé's career and sadly neither has video footage. You can also read about the goal in an article called "The greatest goal Pelé ever scored" by a publication called Game Of The People.
Pele was a great player, but unfortunately 12 year old kids today don't know that he played against European competition in the international champions cup. He scored a hattrick against Eusebio's Benfica and faced great defender like Ceasare Maldini, Beckenbauer, and Bobby Moore.
Instead of shit talking y'all in the comments actually look at what the defenders and the avarage attackers did and shut your dumb mouth, they can't even be compared to the worst team of these times

Do a video about the best footballers born in 1983, please. You have already made a video about the ones born in 1984, so I think this should be next. Here are some great players born in 1983: Lahm, Ribery, van Persie, van der Vaart, Pandev, C. Bravo, Pepe, Quaresma, Alves, DeRossi, Yaya Toure etc.
People constantly keep insulting Pele for various reasons.. But the day Pele will pass away, these same people will come online and show their fake respect calling him the best ever to steal some likes
In a way, there is something magical about a bygone era before social media, before the Internet, and before most games were even broadcast by television. You have to literally be at the stadium to see the game. Or else, you have to read about it in your newspaper through a sports reporter who was at the match, and who can describe for you what you couldn't see, but have to imagine through someone else's words. And in a world without instant communications, and where international travel was rare, Footballers from different parts of the world developed different styles of play. The top talent in different countries also generally stayed within their own countries, rather than be bought and sold among elite clubs of the world's richest leagues. There is something genuine about the passion in this period before everything became commodities. It was a totally different world.
The smiles of Brazilians are very unique in my opinion, if you look at the smiles of Neymar, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo R9 for example, you can see that they are happy smiles. And yes, Pelé and Diego are very good friends, I always remember a report when Pelé said that he once went to Maradona's house to play guitar for him.
no, ive seen the 60s defending, its trash, i couldve been a phenomenal defender if i where born at that time with a brain of todays defending, also no one uses physique. only in the late 70s and 80s physical, aggressive defending was popular, and players like maradona where especially targeted.

you can't compare players from different era. i can't imagine messi or cr7 playing with the same conditions as Pele (boots, ball, pitch, no substitution, no yellow or red cards, brutal tackles, games every 2 or 3 days, etc..), i remember some players protesting that the grass is not well cut if they play bad games. I'd rather say he's a happy fulfilled man that achieved beyond his widest imagination, than really calling him proud. This is my impression when I watch him grant interviews. His achievements are so vast that some people have to find a way of discrediting him and getting his records slashed down to something their heroes of today can dream laying hands on.
You PRETEND the sombrero is only proved by Pele's statement. That goal was covered by journalists whose description of the goal is what the video animation is based on. It was also scored in front of 50,000 fans. By your definition, WW1 and WW2 did not take place because we do not have video footage of every battle.
It is called the 'Gol Del Placa'. That term is now used to describe a wonder goal in South America. There were no cameras so someone made a placard to commemorate that goal.
Imagine thinking Pele was overrated. There are too many contrarians running around these days. When people talk about Puskas, Charlton, Esebio, Di Stefano, Best, Garrincha, Moore, Cruyff etc they are all universally adored regardless of what era they were in. There were a lot of people who got to witness some if not all of these guys play during their lifetime and Pele was almost always considered the consensus best of the lot. Shit it wasn't until Diego Maradona hit his prime that people even entertained a better football player ever existing and even then a lot of those guys put Maradona as 1b to Pele's 1a. And people haven't put anyone alongside Maradona until Ronaldo and Messi came along. Pele is sitting at the greatest players to ever live table. It's hard to choose the definitive best ever but he's at that table.
The thing is most of the ppl talking now, don't play or play very little at a very low level. When ppl who seriously play see Pele's feats they say: "He couldn't do that now.."
Pele in WC highlights is not impressive as teammate Garrincha. Longevity saved him, played with legends and overhype. If not where are these called legendary movements in WC. Maradona look like a superhuman in World Cups. Pele is not close atleast in World Cup

All the great players from history called him the GOAT because they either watched him play for Brazil or played against him when he was with Brazil. Garrincha was there too. Pele was great. But the best ever? Not for mine. Pele was surrounded by great players for Brazil. Not so Maradona for Argentina in 1986 and Napoli . Messi and Ronaldo can't touch Pele or Maradona for World Cup success. Nobody I've ever seen play had the impact and skill of Maradona. As a former Italian international, Nicola Berti once told me who played against Maradona at club and country level: "Nobody compares to Maradona..NOBODY..he was three steps ahead of all of us. You would think of stopping him..and he was already gone"
Maradona played four world cup tournaments and was champion in one and one if his teams was the previous world champions if I'm not mistaken. So that adds some context to this Maradona winning alone arguments. Pele surrounded by great players and these great players couldn't be champions till he arrived in 1958 and stopped being champions as soon as he left them in 1970 for the next 24 years. Meanwhile, 'great players surrounding him' was only about the Brazilian national team and he didn't play with the same squad all through in the Brazilian national team but the outcome remained consistent. Most of those big names also didn't play for Santos but Santos also became famous because of Pele in both Brazil and the world.
@@davies93313 you are mistaken. The previous Argentine team to win the World Cup was in 1978. A very young Maradona wasn’t selected in that side. And to add context, that 1970 Brazilian side is still widely considered the greatest team to win the World Cup. Pele was just a cog in the wheel. The Brazilian front five of Jairzinho, Pele Gérson, Tostão and Rivelino were all Number 10s in their own right. Maradona in 86 had Valdano up front who couldn’t hit the side of a barn.. No comparison. Maradona wins.
@@targaflorio3239 I didn't pick out your comment to argue back and forth and make you believe Pele is better. I do sometimes get involved because there are some common obvious poor arguments that have persisted for some reason. So you might need to pay a closer attention to understand my comment properly. 1) I pointed out that Maradona played four world cup tournaments and was a champion in one of them only and that he played one of it (in 1982) in a squad that had good number of the previous squad(of 1978 winners). So the popular notion of winning singlehandedly isn't really the case, especially when we know Argentina hardly had bad teams. They may not be the favourite, but hardly a bad team. 2) Secondly, you mentioned how Pele was that successful because he had great players around him. Then I asked why did Brazil only became champions as soon as Pele joined them and ceased to for the next 24 years after his exit, yet he didn't play with the same squad all through? So what happened to those big names of the 1970's after his exit, I mean those names you listed? 3) Also, those big names in the Brazilian team were also his rivals in the Brazilian league. Majority of them didn't play for Santos but his result remained consistent wherever he played; with all the Brazilian squads, with Santos team in Brazil and around the world. What am I trying to say? These arguments are quite poor but I have heard them very often.
@@targaflorio3239 Yes it's an ''essay''. I basically repeated myself with more clarity because you acted as though I wasn't clear enough to you the first time. Suddenly your argument this time is '' you've written an essay...'' At least you have learned how poor these arguments are. You should expect similar problems whenever you think of using them.
Pele and Maradona see right through Messi. He has no personality like Ronaldo, he can't lead a team to win when the odds are against him. Messis greatest achievements came with iniesta and xavi who were the leaders.
Messi is a threat to Pele and Maradona's legacy. They know it. You don't expect them to say he's greater than them. Some of Pele's greatest achievements were aided by legends like Garrincha and his Santos teammate, but most people have forgotten them. Messi has won a Ballon D'or with Xavi and Iniesta. Became an assist king in addition to his scoring responsibility. You can't deny his greatness. You speak like Ronaldo hasn't lost crucial games too. Ffs, he lost a CL final to Messi. What happened to that personality?!
@@afrobeatslyrics1221 when Maradona, who regards Messi as a son even admits that Messi isn't a leader then you know there's definitely truth to it. When it's a UCL final Messi won't win it without Xavi and Iniesta holding his hand.
Pele is a complete player, a professional to the core. If the stars that came after him would be honest, go and find they all saw him as a role model. He played very attractive football. Next to him is Maradona. Messi is good but his style of play is not fanciful enough. Ronaldo and Messi are two people will different styles of play who need not be compared. Ronaldo is a top nine or for wing attacks. Pele combines the skills of all four.
Messi is not fanciful enough? You do realise Messi doesnt do skills bc he finds the most efficient way to beat the man and score? Also Pele doesnt have the playmaking abilty Messi has, or the longevity.
Most of Pele’s unofficial goals were against the best teams in the world because people wanted to see him play against the best Santos offer times dropped out of official competitions in the regular season to go in yours and play teams like Madrid and Milan Benfica in the mid 60s so if if they didn’t do this he could of have like 1,000 official goals

Football back then, all of it, balls, pitch, boots everything was rougher to play with, and still he had an excellent touch and technique, nowadays he would've been only better😂
You have to remember that football wasn’t as advanced as it is today it’s not really fair for pele since training can’t even compare to the training we have today, back then you had to be born good to be a football star like pele so his true potential will never be known
im a messi fan and i think pele was the best. search on youtube for all the balls made and look how hard it was to kick those balls with the right power and accuracy, with his dribbling and passing! Pele had everything
I grew up playing with the old balls as a junior. If you didn't catch those balls right you'd hurt your ankle. Look how many players today, who played then, have dementia and brain damage? In order to catch the ball right, control had to be instant and shooting had to go through the centre of the ball. Modern strikers cannot seem to do all these things. Eg Harry Kane shoots well either foot, but lacks flair. Cavani is better. Messi has great dribbling and movement but is nothing aerially and right foot wise. CR7 is more complete but less in dribbling. Power wise, Pele's musculature was like a boxer's. He was phenomenally hard to disbalance and it took more than one challenge to stop him. Watch the match between Brazil and Portugal in 66..No striker now has the shooting power of Pele or Eusebio. Youngsters tell me I make the ball whistle, even using the outside of my right foot. The last such strikers of such power was Ronaldo Fenomeno, Jay Jay Okocha, Batistuta and Hristo Stoichkov. Unless you play, you've no idea the difference such power makes! Pele caught a ball in the 58 final, juggled it once then crashed it with his left foot against the left post, keeper completely beaten. He was 17. That is the difference.

1. Though I do agree that most of his goals were on charity matches , friendlies with his neighborhood , and more, there is no denying that he scored lots of goals for his club and country. 2. He did played a match in the 1962 Cup , he got injured in the second group match against Czechslovakia. He might not have "help much" on winning the World Cup , but as long as you are on the list you are consider a world cup winner. 3. He won 3 World Cups , and even though he was never "player of the tournament" or "highest scorer of a tournament", he was still a fundamental for Brazil success. Specially the 1970 one , where he played out of his mind against Italy on the grand finals.
He played in two of the three group matches scoring the kind of goal Messi or CR7 have yet to score in a World Cup, against Mexico. Also making another for Zagalo. Why the hate?
@Thi Yagelovic It went deeper. Following Pele's rise, South American teams adopted hyper aggressive tactics which meant tournaments became hazardous. Witness some matches between European Cup winners and South American teams in the World Club Cup European teams forfeited rather than play. Teams like Estudiantes, Independiente, Racing Club, Penarol, Nacional and Colo Colo played rough-house football, that was borderline thuggery, backed by bribed officials, strategically placed cameras, riot police and sleights of hand of every sort. When Celtic played Racing Club in 67, their replay was a brawl. Man Utd the following year saw Best and Law wring spit from their hair against Estudiantes. You simply cannot compare the degree of competitiveness and corruption then. Messi and Ronaldo simply could not have played in such matches. In 1971 Panathinaikos contested the World Club Cup in place of Ajax, because of this.
Stop talking rubbish I have seen you on Twitter before saying Pele wasn’t top 5 Brazilian ever, also name me 5 defenders in the Brazilian league during the 60’s and early/mid 70’s “Old timer”
