Today lets look at what could very well be the best Mauser model variant produced during the interwar period. The Vz.24 was designed and manufactured at the Brno Arms Works in newly formed Czechoslovakia and was one of the earliest Mauser 'short rifles'.
Here we cover its history, talk about features, and discuss some of the many buyers it had in the 1930s.
We compare it with many other Mausers; including Kar.98A, FN M24/30, Zastava M48, and a couple different Kar.98Ks out of Germany.

I just love my M24/52-Č. All (Yugo) numbers match, even bayonet and scabbard. Watched the prices for these go up about 50% just over the past couple of years. Now the rifle alone costs more than what I bought my "set" for. Still need a Vz.24. But I think I need to hurry, because those prices are slowly climbing as well.

Got an M24/52c as well, seems to be a more scarce Mauser variant, even though it's technically a VZ24 Yugo re-work. It's the smoothest bolt action I own!

I really like my Romy contract vz 24 and Yugo 24/52. Are the 24/52 more uncommon than the 24/47? I have seen a lot more 24/47
@Verdha603
@Verdha603 3 года назад
@Not Given Different reworks of different rifles. The M24/47 is a rework of Serbian/Yugoslavian M24 Mauser’s, with the work starting in 1947, hence the M24/47 designation. M24/52 was an overhaul of Czech Vz. 24 rifles given to Yugoslavia as war reparations, with work starting in 1951/1952. Another model like these was the M98/48, which was Yugoslavia overhauling captured German K98k’s starting in 1948.

I have a 1935 Peruvian Mauser, One of the ones that was reworked in the 50s and re-arsenal by FN and re-chambered to 30,06,And I can honestly say if I was to buy German Mauser in as good of condition as my Peruvian Mauser is, it would probably be a $2000 rifle

The Romanian contract vz24 snipers were apparently modified by the Romanians into snipers from the regular rifles. I was wondering how solid the receiver is with the large mount cut and if the receiver was heated to cut out that much metal. Asking because i found an all matching one in good shape with just the bases for 500.Thanks.

I picked one of these up but it has a steyr scout clone stock. I was hoping to unsporter it. There is nothing under the stock though. Some how it was missing 2 of the screws in the clone scout stock mount. Someone has also used string to try to hold screws in place. Instead of just properly finding the blind hole they fit in. 😂. Thanks for the video!

I have a Czech built VZ24 Mauser and my grandfather took it off a german soulder ,during the war. The only problem is he fought his way from North Africa threw Italy and into Germany. So it actually could be one of several calibers and i dont have a way to check it? It was built in 1926 and the serial number is 6336 K1 and there is just a bit of distance between the four diget number and the "K1" above the serial number is an E with a very small lions head next to it then 26 for the year it was built. It really sux ,When i got the gun and my gramps left it to me i loved it. I have had it for years now and just cant figure out what caliber it is so i can shoot it? WTF

Hi from Brno :) Unfortunately whole factory went bankrupt after "velvet revolution" thanks to politics and now remaining ruined buildings are being destroyed and gradually replaced by some overly expensive flats and small companies... :( Quite sad story of one of world largest rifle manufacturer in twenties that started on the basis what was left from Austro-Hungarian empire collapse, survived world war II and remained operational until 1990s when things started to go really wrong.. Now there is only one small part under CZUB control producing few hunting rifles. Straight bolt is better for gloves operation... Brno is rather Brno with all letters pronunciated very shortly than "Brunou" :))
@jaysblades
@jaysblades 3 года назад
As American-English speakers we don't have a linguistic equivalent of the word "Brno" (it needs a vowel to proceed or postcede the R to indicate the pronunciation). I reckon most North Americans would say "B-R-N-O" like it's an acronym due to the lack of vowels. We're told we're pronouncing it wrong (thank you for being polite about it, most are not) but we're far from being Czech speakers.... What is the closest English equivalent to the correct pronunciation? I imagine it would vary greatly in pronunciation depending on if you're Czech, French, German, etc., if spelled the same depending on the linguistic function of the letter R. R is "arr" in English so technically the English pronunciation could be anything from "Bruhno" to "Birno" to "Barno."

You missed something on difference between the FN Mauser an the Vz 24. The length of the receivers! Fn is a short action receiver and is about 7/16th inches shorter then the Vz 24s
@ericschulze5641

Probably depends on the varient, at one time I had an FN and a BRNO the bolts were identical except the BRNO was a straight bolt and the FN was a curved bolt

The VZ24's action is just somehow different, feels and sounds different from most other Mausers. Its a very slick and solid feeling movement. Its difficult to put into words, but I've noticed it with virtually all of them I've handled over the years, know what I mean?

Misha I know exactly what you mean. Mine is smooth like butter. It’s a 1937 production rifle. My rifle has an F before the serial number. If you could help me find out what it stands for I would greatly appreciate it. As you stated in your video the Czechs contracted these guns out to so many countries. Couldn’t find out if mine was or not.

Of course im gonna watch your entire video but what im trying to find out is what caliber the VZ24 is in? I have a box of 7.9 Metah which is bacially 8mm but it looks a bit too tight! So then i heard they were chambered in 7.65X53 and 5X57 as well as the 7.92X57 or 9mm lol so until i can find someone that can guage my barrel i cant shoot it and i have had it almost 5yrs now! Its killing me?!?!?!? lol HELP??? P.S. what is the actual length of the Cleaning rod? I purchased a replica rod and its too small and short....:>/
