Hi there, If you are experiencing water coming up into your sink, when your washing machine and dishwasher are both discharging at the same time; then fitting a washing machine drain out kit is the best solution. Hope this helps
You have bypassed the trap. Why do you think there is a trap under the sink?? Install another trap everyone, unless you want sewer smell coming back through the drain.
The washing machine drain out kit is fitted after the trap. The whole purpose of this is to prevent back flow. Since I have fitted this kit I haven't had a back flow problem or any drainage smells. I have 26 years building and DIY experience and am city and guilds qualified. If any one needs any professional advice please contact me.
@@diyshop839 Obviously it stops the back flow to the sink, I get that. So why bother putting in any traps at all then? Like a said there is a reason for the trap. The plumber that did mine flatly refused to do it like this. Bacteria and sewerage stench can push back, it's a potential health hazard. Clearly, there are different standards between trade professionals. You might have no smell because there is probably a non return valve in the line preventing this. You still have an open line from the drain out from the sewer that has a clear pathway through the dishwasher outlet hose. You should put a 2nd trap between the drain out people.
@@diyshop839 I figured that to be the case. I get that the concept works. It just wouldn't pass inspection here . The possibility of that check valve getting stuck from debris could be an issue, henceforth not legal here. Cheers!
Why not hook up toilet and shower to the sink. Run a new discharge line for washing machine or that check valve is going to be plugged with lint in no time and flood your home. What about the sewer gas coming in to washing machine without a P trap.
I have fitted this almost two years ago and never had a problem, if you notice I have a p trap at the sink to stop smells coming up through the sink, also the waste water goes out to a gully drain first before the manhole.
@@diyshop839 I am glad that you had no problem and if water did not go the gully kitchen sink P trap dont stop sewer gases coming back to washing machine. Thanks for reply & good luck you are not in USA.
Hi Andrew, When they discharge at the same time what happens is that the dishwasher waste water goes into the spigot of the trap. When the waste water from the washing is discharged into the the waste pipe there is a gap or space between the two waste waters therefore you don't get back flow. All the best Mustafa
Hello mate thanks for the video, I m suffering big time with this washing machine waste water in the sink, U pipe its all nice n clean but can’t clear the pipes behind kitchen unit its kind of bend shape , any help pls
Hi there, Since I have installed this I have never had any blockages as the pipe is 1 1/2" in diameter, the plastic piece is small this won't cause a blockage. This video is a true representation of DIY and explanation of what you need to install the kit, in some cases you may lose the plastic piece or it may be on the cutter, as I have 30 years experience in the building industry, this is not a problem I have come across, as I state in my video thats not the end of the world and yes I am serious, as its clear you have zero DIY knowledge I suggest you watch something else. All the best Mustafa
Hi there, No it's not past the trap, it's before the trap, and no sewer gas smell's come through, and I have had no problem's since I have installed this.
When my washing machine is on ,the water goes up into my kitchen sink and the smell is awful, Do I needto get a plumber or someone who deals with washing machines? I have tried baking soda and vinegar , drain cleaner ,soda crystals the smell is bad toxic, need help !
Hi Vicky, If this has always been happening then you can fit a drain out kit and that will work fine, However if this is a new thing and has just started happening then you most likely have a blockage in the trap or somewhere along the waste pipe. I would recommend a plumber, but you can send me some photos or a video and I can help you further. All the best Mustafa
Hi David, The most likely cause of this is that you have a blockage in the trap or somewhere along the wastepipe. It's very unusual if you only have one appliance to get backflow when the waste water is discharging. I would suggest checking for blockages first and then go from there. If you get stuck, please feel free to get in touch. All the best Mustafa
Hi there, Although this problem has happened since your new washing machine was installed, has the waste pipes been reconfigured, if you can send me some photos or a video explaining your issues, then I can assist you with some help.
I already have this system under my sink but can I buy replacement parts or do I need to buy the whole thing? mine is leaking after many years, where you put the spring and the little black non -return valve is all all disformed?
Hi hope someone can give me advice ,my washer smells wen it first turnt on and fills with water ,could this be same issues as this ,is this what needed Thank u
Hi Jenny, It's difficult to say without photos or a video, however it's most likely that your drain hose is too low and therefore forceing bad smells back in to your washing machine. Your drain hose should slope down towards your spigot. There is a possibility that if you have a standpipe and your drain hose hooks in to it then the end off the hose should project 4 inches and then hook over the standpipe. Hope this helps. Mustafa
This is a nice solution. Where can I get the Y shape drain pipe? I also want to do the same. Have dishwasher and washing machine connect to the kitchen sink.
Hi there, You can purchase the washing machine drain out kit from screwfix and it cost's £7.19p and the product code is 75883. As regards to the double spigot trap you can purchase this from www.plumbers-mate-sales.co.uk/mcalpine-antivac-double-spigot-appliance-trap-wm11v---40003994-7029-p.asp hope this helps.
Hello there, If you mean the blanking plug that goes into your spigot I have a video explaining the mc alpine blanking plug, If that is not it you can send me a few pictures and I can let you know.
Hey, my old neighbour had a similar issue and they asked me to see if I could see why their washing machine water backs up into the sink. So when I had a look at the waste pipes, the washing machine outlet pipe was joining the waste pipe directly beneath the sink outlet, so I suggested the washing machine drain off connection be after the p- bend trap. So I bought a taping kit and put the washing machine connection towards the end of the pipework run, so it's the last connection before it goes out of the back wall of the unit. Still the water is backing up into the sink. What could be the cause now? I can't seem to think anything else how this can be resolved. The only thing I can now think of is that the waste outlet pipe has a blockage?
I have the same setup with dishwasher and washing machine. I get a lot of noise from the sink when the appliances are on. I see you have an anti siphon trap installed, would this stop the gurgling noise? Thanks
The anti syphon trap reduces the gurgling noise, also it provides a protection against loss of water in the trap which acts as a barrier to stop waste smells coming from your drain and traveling to your sink. All the best Mustafa
Hi, Thanks for your comment. I purchased this kit from a UK company called Screwfix. It is a washing machine drain out kit suitable for 1 ¼" and 1 ½" waste pipe. The product code at Screwfix is 75883 and it costs £7.19. If you contact them via their website, Screwfix.com, they may send it to the US, or be able to advise where you can purchase it in the US All the best Mustafa
@@diyshop839Thank You, I sure appreciate your quick response. I contacted them just a bit ago. If you like I can let you know if I will be able to purchase the Kit. Again. Great video.
Hi Steve, This kit is for your kitchen sink waste pipe which in the UK is a standard size of 40mm also known as inch and a half. Hope this helps, if you need anymore help please don't hesitate to ask. All the best Mustafa
I'm doing this exact type of job soon a washing machine and a dish washer are you saying if they both discharge at same time it is a problem with the trap with two waste nozzles if so why are these traps design in first place if there unsuitable please?
@@garylawton7254 Hi Gary, If both the dishwasher and washing machine discharge at the same time, in most cases, you get backflow. This then causes the waste water to come backup into the kitchen sink. Generally a standpipe appliance trap is fitted just for the washing machine because this has a big drop. With regards to the sink trap normally the dishwasher waste pipe is fitted to the spigot/nozzle. With regards to the design featuring 2 nozzles it's basically a shortcut but not really best practice when trying to avoid backflow. Hope this helps, but feel free to ask any other questions. All the best Mustafa
