Washing machine won't agitate
Usually, when you encounter washing machine won't agitate problems, symptoms for your washer are the washer fills but won't agitate or spin . After the washing machine fills up with water, it won't start spinning. You find the washer machine agitator in your washer is not agitating. The easiest DIY repair for your washing machine not spinning is check the door switch on your washer. That's the switch that makes a clicking sound when you open and close your washer lid for top loader washing machines, and you open and close the door on front loader washers. If you don't hear the washer machine lid switch clicking, then you need to replace that washer door switch, normally costs about $30-$40 for the part.
With your washing machine door switch failure mode, the reason for your washer not agitating or spinning is the switch has malfunctioned, your washing machine thinks the door is open, even when it is closed. So your washer won't spin, because of safety features in your washing machine. It will still fill with water, but you can have the door open while it fills, you can still add laundry, but the washer door must be closed by the end of the water filling cycle, or your washer won't agitate. If you have a washing machine not agitating or spinning, test your door switch first, that is the fastest repair.
Another failure mode for washing machine won't spin problems
If you find the Kitchenaid washing machine door switch working, you can try the other washing machine won't spin root cause, often the motor couplers, or washer motor drive belt. Older Kitchenaid washers typically had a direct drive washer motor connected to a gear case instead of a belt drive. But newer washing machine motors are made cheap by manufacturers with a belt drive. Another common cause for the washer fills but won't agitate or spin error is a worn or broken washer motor belt if your washer is built with one.
Washer won't spin or drain
You might be led to think that your washer won't spin or drain, but they do drain. If they don't drain but you still hear the motor noise, then your water pump which attaches the washing machine motor has likely stripped at the connection point and needs to be replaced.
