We did our walkthrough the evening of a downpour in McLean and water was leaking into two areas of the lower level. I freaked out, but our agent calmly suggested we have the seller escrow $6k for any needed repairs (this was 25 years ago) and with simple grading the problem was solved, and we bought a great house.

@@kimim2702 yes that was a smart move! Depending on The severity of these issues, they can often be fixed with some negotiation. It might seem scary as a first time buyer but its Not worth passing up on a great deal because of an issue that looks terrible on the surface but can be fixed. McLean is on 🔥🔥 right now so I am sure yall made out pretty well on that purchase 🙂

I think they did an excellent job with the renovation overall. I love that they did inset doors on all the cabinetry and vanities. That always elevates a property. That wallpaper in the powder room needs to be redone. And, as you said, the lack of a built-in microwave is odd… although one could easily be installed in the walk-in pantry, on top of some semi wrap around shelving.

Man, that sticking door gave me PTSD/fire hazard vibes since experiencing a fire as a kid.. Excellent point about the rain because skylights too are leakage prone. I was surprised by no pot filler or double oven at this price point. Is it needle in a haystack to find this home style with a bedroom on the first level since so narrow? With aging parents, im always on the lookout for that.

@@deandra8381 unless it’s a detached single family home, in DC it’s extremely rare to find a rowhome home with a bedroom on the first level. Most bedrooms are either on the third level or in the basement in DC rowhouses. However, I’ve seen new construction homes in Maryland and Virginia with first floor bedrooms.

Not enough kitchen storage at that price. It may look good on camera but this will not work for how many people live and entertain. The main bedroom in nice; it could use a little more closet space. Overall it is nice.

the name Smidt is 1 syllable, not like Smid't being 2 syllables. As far as a microwave oven, healthy cooking and cooks don't use them often.

The closet space SUCKS! It's a beautiful house but I'm not a fan of total open space. When I'm cooking I don't need everyone to see me doing it. I prefer a semi open or traditional layout floor plan. I love homes with a basement but it's not a deal breaker without. Overall a nice home but wouldn't be my first choice.
