It was because of other opener being a dummy most times in Mongia, Prabhakar, sometimes with Sidhu as well,that Tendulkar had to slow down or cut his natural instinct which was to only attack those days in ODI cricket. Have to admit, Akram and Younis were just too hot to handle those days.... It wasn't until Sehwag came in that Tendulkar took backseat although he did whack Akram and Younis too sometimes.
Sehwag featured in only two matches involving Wasim Waqar. Started in 1999 where he Went for Duck. His only encounter after debut happened in 2003 World Cup. Scored 20 something. Wasim Waqar did not play international after that. Would have a been a good contest of peak Sehwag vs peak Wasim
@@arslanMCL Akram being the wily old fox he was as a bowler would have gobbled Sehwag most times just like McGrath with an odd thrashing here and there. In tests given the pitches here in Subcontinent, yes, that would have been ' a keen contest'
Tendulkar was probably the only real class act until Ganguly and Dravid came on the scene... After that India only went upwards with legends like Virat and Dhoni while Pakistan went downhill after losing their top players to retirement
@@bhaskarpuvvala5849 Yes he was a decent player but not comparable to the class that Dravid and Ganguly had in my opinion... I think Pakistan too have shown improvement with the likes of Babar Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi but The team that Pakistan used to have in the 90s and early 2000s was the best we ever had.. And as far as India is concerned I think you guys showed massive improvement due to Virat and Dhoni... Right now I think Virat isn't as consistent and the other quality players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Harthik also appear to be out of sorts but they have the potential to make a comeback
@@malikmuhammadqasimqasim4785 no. He was not express. See 150 in speed guns is relative thing. Modern speed guns show higher speeds. Waqar on modern guns would be easily 164+ km per hour
@saurabhbahuguna8040 personal liking / disliking otherwise both are the greats of the game. Waqar more aggressive, on the other hand Wasim more skilful, complete, and a mature and cunning cricketing mind.

I am from Johannesburg, when India toured SA 1996 there was a new Zealand manufactured speed meter in use and he was bowling quick, over 145kph, injuries never allowed him to bowl full tilt, waqar till 93 was very quick, after he had two major injuries but could never bowl that speed again.
That was the period of time when Indian Board totally denied to play with Pakistan and for 10 years India never played any bilateral series with Pakistan.
Nayan Mongia was sent in as a opener in pinch hitter role !! who made that decision ! . Even at his best he had very little power to clear boundaries !
@@raheelakhtar7 From post 1996 world cup till 2000, excluding the year 1998, India team was like a circus. Countless times they would lose from winning positions. After Ganguly took over things started to change.
