@@malikmuhammadqasimqasim4785 Most lethal between 1989 -1992. From 1992 to 1996 he was still formidable but had lost about 15-20km in his speed. After 1996/1997 he slowly started declining but he was still world class up to 2003.

⁠@@WonderYakworldhe lost his finger in a childhood accident not in 1995! He had two stress fractures of the back one in 1992 and another a few years later. IMO he had a beautiful bowling action and was statistically one of the best there ever has been. At one point his strike rate in tests was in the 30s, despite his decline he still has the 2nd best SR in test history - remarkable.

Although I can’t comment about 70’s, 80’s cricket since I only started following the game during the 90’s , the brand of cricket played during those days was amazing to watch. It used to be an equal competition between the bat and the ball unlike today when it is all about keeping the crowd entertained by hitting it out of the park. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Heath Streak, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed were legendary bowlers. Not sure if that caliber of bowlers could be seen in modern cricket.

Makes sense. It would be good to see it recorded on a speed gun. Waqs was super quick through the air. A number of great batsmen mentioned there wasn't any fast bowler quicker in this regard.

They had speed guns in this series. They used to show the speed after every ball.

I am an Indian and I consider Waqar the best ever. very few have come close. not even Wasim Akram. He didn't like Waqar and used to compete. Waqar could have taken 500+ ODI wickets and 600+ Test wickets. The only tarnish was may be ball tempering allegations.
