Listening to Bret is like listening to the older hands I grew up around who were riding young horses all the way up into thier 60’s and 70’s. No shortcuts and no gimmicks. Dave in California says hi.

Well said. Something else amazes me is how many people “diagnose” a horse from a clip. Thanks for sharing.

Same for Bret's videos, but some of those social media "trainers" who rode a month on granny's one eyed 25 year old horse and now they're trainers make it so easy 😂

Lot of wisdom in that. Makes me think of the expression "only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches." Easy to poke your head into a 10 min vid and think you got it all sorted out, whats right and wrong, and how to work any given horse or situation, but unless you're the wearer you really dont have a clue. (With the exception of those who live horses, but I'd wager those are too few and far between for the proportion of nonsense in the comment section.) Love the videos, I learn something new every time that helps me be better with horses.

Glad you said what you said about the Ace. It's silly seeing some people on RU-vid give a young horse their "1st ride", and the horses eyes are dull or half closed.

When you started I looked at her face and what I saw I made me chuckle! She had what I call a "Pissy pony face." I see that and call them on it! I do the same, I never cut stuff out of my videos. How is it educational if you cut out what they are watching to learn? Good job!!

I’d like to know how you handle a broncy colt. My days of riding them out are behind me. I don’t mind a little bucking here and there there but have one that was doing great going along outside and everything and now he wants to buck. None of the guys on you tube ever really address this.
@HorsemanshipAsAnArt
@HorsemanshipAsAnArt 28 дней назад
I like this question. The reason no one addresses this is because no one is willing to tell the truth about a horse that turns out bad. If everything was hunky dory and then went sour it was probably rider error but that does not matter. The fact is if you have one that is no good then get rid of it and get another. There are a lot of good horses out there. Thats what I do with broncs.
@ranchhouse349
@ranchhouse349 25 дней назад
@@HorsemanshipAsAnArt I like the answer except where do you draw the line and when? If I gave up on the few great ones I’ve had when they bucked at first I’d be sorry. Not to antagonize just looking for advise. I have one bloodline in particular that can be a little raunchy. I’ve already started eliminating them but they make darn good ranch horses once they’re a past it. Thank you for your response. Appreciated.
@HorsemanshipAsAnArt
@HorsemanshipAsAnArt 25 дней назад
@@ranchhouse349 I see what you mean. If you have a bloodline that you know works out of it in the end then you can cut them a lot of slack ( colt starters may hate it but...) however if I dont have a history with the bloodline I dont play around for very long. For someone that rides and raises horses as a hobby you can take a lot of time but I have to make my living doing this so I dont mess around very much if I know the colt has not been counterfeited by anyone. Otherwise I dont have a set line in the sand, I play it by ear. If a horse has good conformation I can make it ride around, question is how much work am I willing to put into it. I dont care if one bucks around a little the first week or so but if that is the go to answer after a month, lets go to Mexico.
