Well that got the brain cogs whirring at 6 am here in Blighty . Interesting stuff and obviously you have put a lot of thought into this before releasing the video Mark. I would say that any collector of long or long-ish standing falls into the Super Hybrid Profile also known as the Peacowleagove !!!. I certainly fall into that super hybrid profile and although I don't know the full extent of your collection I would hazard a guess that you are not far off that too.
Hi Keith, yes, I was hoping to offer up a lot more clarity, but I was also keen to keep the video shorter than usual. The DISC profile is a fairly well-used standard template used to determine people's personality traits. I just adapted it for the watch hobby. Personally, I fall into the category of Dive but with an inclination towards peacock. So that makes me a Dovecock!

Over the few years when I started in this watch journey madness, I think I have evolved from one bird specie to another and now may have finally landed like a flightless bird after retired - being more conscious on spending on ‘unnecessary’ items I suppose.

Hi Mel, I remember when I first discovered the DISC profile, it blew my mind. I've never met anyone, who's profile doesn't match who they are. Thought it would be fun to link it to watch collecting!
Peacock into eagle here. Interesting how corporate personality profiles, like Extended DISC, tie into other aspects of our lives. Never thought it would but it does. You should look at how time in the hobby can change your DISC profile as it does in the workplace and with maturity. Also, I prefer you keep the vids as long as you need to, in order to articulte your points as your takes are generally thought-provoking and authentic.
Thank you. the DISC profile always seemed like an interesting way to try and categorise the collectors / hobbyists, as there are so many different personalities and perspectives in this hobby. I'm a Dove, but close to the border with Peacock. I honestly don't think these sub10 minute videos are for me! I'll probably do some more on this subject, but not so rushed next time!

The Watch doesn't define you per se. I have watches from all categories too. It's more your general approach to the hobby that defines you. If you want me to pick one right now for you based on those 3 watches, I'd go Dove with an inclination towards Peacock 🦚
I don't understand this notion of trying to impress people with a watch. Given that 99% of the general public would be more impressed by an apple watch ultra, and could not even identify a luxury watch how does that work? This seems like it would only work among other watch nerds meaning a limited and very specific type of location or event.
Yes, that particular notion applies to people trying to impress others, or just as importantly to impress themselves. Social media plays a massive part in this hobby. Let's not avoid that stark reality. So, not being physically present doesn't necessarily mean not being aware of the perception of others.
Interesting 😁 . Honestly, I don't fit any of those groups and don't own any of those watches. I might be a Magpie, every so often something shiny catches my eye and I buy it.....but then I'm not a collector, I just happen to own 16 watches and watch far too many RU-vid videos 🤣
haha you will fit into one of those categories as a human being, as it's a tried and tested structure for profiling people's personality, and communication style. I just modified it for the watch collecting hobby, for fun. You'll tend to sit in one category but have leanings towards the others too.
@@TheRandomWatchDude assuming you adapted it correctly ! I am strongly some traits or owl and dove but equally strongly opposite other traits in those categories . If you only meet only 30% of the traits in the category can you honestly put yourself in that category I would say not as you 2/3rd disagree with it . I buy the watches for me and me alone i don't care what others think of them. Most of my watches the average Joe public won't have even heard of the brand never mind the model.
It so sad but 90% of people i meet in real life are of the type gold digger magnets they buy OP, Date Just ,submariner, speedy or seamasters if you point out alternatives which maybe better quality more technical, better finishing etc they are disinterested , thwre aim is to out do ither males and be attractive to women ( if the eoman is only interested in your money there isnt much point talking to her) . I recall a seminar i attended where the speaker managed to annoy a full room of gold digger magnets who were all wearing the aforementioned time pieces by sayig my eatdh was probably the most significant watch in the room and most people didnt even know what it was.
I always thought it was lonely for me, not having a group-in watch collecting. I know no one else, not physically or online- not in my country. Maybe it’s a good thing.. I’m not fitting any of the types, or birds 😉. I might be a socialist parrot ☝🏻
It's almost impossible to put yourself in one of these categories, as most of us aren't able to see ourselves for how we really are. I feel your pain in the watch hobby. I've always considered it a lonely place. most of the time!
