"You'll scratch your watch if you wear it like that" Oh please!! Guys let's have a chat about this OCD behavior!! You bought a Rolex Submariner and covered it in protective film? You became tearful when you found a micro-scratch on your Panda Daytona. Let's learn to let it go....

A few days ago, I posted a picture of me wearing my Rolex Submariner in my workshop while using a Jigsaw to cut hardwood boards. All the comments were flaming me for not taking care of it and that I should take the watch off since it could get scratched or damaged. I didn't pay $10,000 for something I'm not going to use. There's nothing more useless than a watch that isn't worn. People can stay mad if they want, I worked hard for my watch, and I'm going to wear it for every penny it's worth.

I totally agree with you about wearing watches and not babying them. However, be mindful that sawing wood with a jigsaw may get sawdust in the crevices of your Submariner’s bezel and over time cause it to seize up. This happened with my Black Bay a few years back when sand got underneath the bezel. I had a Rolex Watchmaker in London remove the bezel, clean it and re-lubricate it. I’m not afraid to wear my watches, but I do consider taking them off for certain activities that expose them to a heightened risk of damage.

Omg the only 3 Rolex I own are the Sea Dweller 43mm, the two tone Sea Dweller 43mm, and the Sky Dweller 42mm blue. I tried to be fancy and bought a LV 3 watch roll to store them, what a disaster, these LV rolls lack separation barriers ( people please don’t buy them ). As a result, I one day accidentally dropped the roll resulting in a nasty ding on my SD43 bottom side same exact area you have yours, but mines is deeper, I want to laser weld it at a company that specializes in Rolex down in Florida called Rollieworks, but feel hesitant, I also tried to stop an elevator door for a couple while I was wearing my Skydweller resulting in a vicious scratch on the side 😩, the people I saved the door for didn’t even thank me. I just don’t know how my beater Seikos I bang them up and wear them without any concern yet they never catch a damn scratch! Goes to show you Murphy’s law lol. You have a phenomenal collection, nice to see them all together, and I feel better you have a ding on it too, on the same place, even though is less 🤣👌🏽.

Another practical guide to owning and wearing luxury watches. Well done, Mark. They’re made to be worn and enjoyed, not locked away in a safe out of fear for possible blemishes.

I look at it this way. You wouldn't wear the same pair of shoes all year, for every task. That's how I swap my watches around. It's simple, and less expensive watches clear the palette for the nicer watches when it's appropriate.

I managed to pick up a Peter Blake a couple of weeks ago and love it. As is often said, the scratches can add to a watch's story. Although I try to take care of my collection sometimes buying used can take some of the anxiety away, as the watch will often have some minor imperfections that someone else have given it.

Regarding the Maxi cases and scratches, I just say to myself that I can always have the service center polish it when servicing, and well those maxi lugs are a bit too chunky anyway and would probably look just fine polished down. : )

Funny vid. If you a true watch wearer you wear them and love them. You can’t baby everything in life. Markings are not bad it shows a life lived. If you bought it to flip do your thing but seeing a worn watch which bears someone’s stories that’s awesome. A RU-vidr I watch gave a wonderful analogy. It’s the same as having a beautiful woman but never sleeping with her so the next ‘owner’ benefits. A loved watch is a worn watch. If you can’t afford to wear it and worried about resale (why else would you care about scratches if you keeping it) you just shouldnt have it. Wear it, love it, use it, and let it mature as everything does… Wear the damn watch but care for it and don’t abuse it which is different. I detest talking money but if you can’t bare to scratch your watch you probably overextended on the purchase and the watch wears you….

I have scratched many a case back like that. If you didn’t line up the clasp with the case back like you did, there will indeed be contact made with it. You only demonstrated that fire that specific watch in that specific position there was no contact. If you’re gentle enough every time then there shouldn’t be any scratches but it’s definitely a way many people scratch their case backs

Scratches are bad, not characters. Baying your expensive watches is not a crime. If you put a piece of microfiber in between the bracelet and case back, you can keep both of them safe. Finally, always using a leather watch tray is good for both the clasp and watch in the long term.

I've just bought my first decent watch, not quite a Rolex but was expensive to me. I wouldn't say I baby my watch, but I do put it in a wolf travel roll at night and that has a soft sponge to put it on, nothing rigid In 1 month I've already got a few little scratches on it, I expected that. As long as I don't get dents or chips, and whatever scratches can be polished out if need be, I'm fine with wear and tear. No point in getting a watch just to stare at or be afraid to wear often in my opinion 😊

Yes, I 100% baby my watches and because of that, so far they all look fantastic! I know it's not the way to go through life but I just can't help myself.
