I was offered the transition out of the Navy, and I turned it down. That was a big mistake. I had a hard time coping with civilian life.

The amount of help I received from the DOD and VA to transition back to civilian life???? Nothing. I was separated after terminal leave and nothing. I went to my VA in the city I moved back to from Europe...nothing. The veterans rep at the Workforce Commission...nothing! Nada! Zip!!! Thank you for giving us your heart and soul but due to cutbacks, we dont need your ass anymore...go away!!!! 10 years later after 9/11 they were begging for me to come back in and were pushing my records through a promotion board to major. I loved the Army, and I love my country, but do you seriously think I encouraged my son to join after that????

I used to write reports that got sent to government bureaucrats. It was a daily occurrence to pad a 2 page report to 70 to 80 pages. The "executive summary" in the beginning of the report was longer than my original report.

Heads up, as a pair of 20 year Navy veterans, my wife and I reached 65 years old this past year. We got bounced off our TriCare Prime Family program that cost $460 a year and placed on TriCare for life program at no cost. We were told we could no longer use military treatment facilities for care. In order to get TriCare for Life we had to get Medicare part A&B. Part B costs us $340 a month. Plan accordingly troops. Just when you transition to another fixed income they take more and you get less.

Any time you hear “thank you for the question” you immediately know that stalling, deceit, and outright lies are about to be spewed. Personally, I’d tell them to can that shyt and answer the question without any further mealy mouthed BS.

The DOE regulates my employer. A DOE official came one day to the building I was in. Asked what’s the capacity on the crane. I said 50 tons, written clear as day can’t miss it. He says that’s not how you spell ton. I had to walk away.

I think any answer given given that isn't an immediate "yes/no" or when they weasel around and say, "I'll give to get back to you", but DON'T follow up after 2 days MAX, should be followed with "sergeant at arms, place that one in custody for holding up a congressional investigation". Then, if they come back, and its found that they said something completely opposite of what they enetered into testimony, "sergeant at arms, arrest that person for committing purjury and lying to a congressional investigation committee."

My separation took took about half of a day of medical and 20 minutes of admin. That was "civilian transition"....get out and don't let the door hit you in the ass.

As a disabled veteran, I can say that the vast majority of the civilians involved with TAP care very little or nothing for the service members. They just care about their GS job, getting a bonus, and the number of days remaining before they can apply for a job at the next higher GS level.

End the Federal Executive Service pertaining to Executive Appointment Authority. Accountability must be returned to the government and citizenry.

I am a veteran of the USMC and NG, I am not disabled, but I have never had a job where I was being paid good money then think it is okay to act like I don't know anything. I have tried getting an entry level job at the VA and can't even get an interview. Why can't I get an interview, but these people dress up to go to an office party five days a week.

They don't care about the veterans anymore at all.
