In SA's conversation with Lex Fridman, he said his next step was to go out and talk to people. I am sure that this is what he meant and the people moaning about the questions just don't understand that this is what he wants to be doing. Having conversations about how it is all going to work. Everybody claims that new technology revolution creates new kind of jobs that don't yet exist. That's true. But what everybody is conveniently forgetting is the fact that this is Artificial Intelligence, and not steam engine or mobile phone. This technology has the capability to intelligently think and reason (in the future), and can learn as well. These are the only features that differentiate us humans from other living beings. For now these AI models may not be a threat to jobs in a significant manner, but surely a GPT 8 or GPT 10 will be exponentially more capable than current model. The number of jobs that will be created in future will be certainly lesser than the number of jobs that will be lost due to AI and automation. It's only a question of when!!
@homeyworkey
@homeyworkey Год назад
there's just going to be a massive increase in social related jobs. our happiness will become more & more valued. like going to the supermarket, u may start seeing people check you out instead of machines. we got rid of these positions because we value profit. but in the future, we're going to value being socially connected to the world. we are social creatures and as we have more time & money, we'll invest back into the roots of our biology which we have often times forgot. society is probably at the most disconnected position its ever been in, but i presume this wont be the case when we have free time to do what we want, there will be a decline in social media or other time wasting activities, which are primarily used to escape from reality which is working 9-5, being overworked, etc.

Thirty years ago there would have been no concept of commenting under millions of videos and the need for something like a social media manager, but that doesn’t mean our current reality is worse for technology because cnn and the bbc needs to work harder at their jobs. Early adoption like he said will be rewarded, trying to think of what the future will be like based on the constraints of our current imagination is just not possible. Collective intelligence and expertise with the new tools we are given will have to get better and faster, which is not impossible it’s for society to evolve into.

In the growth of new age AI chatbots, I find a metaphorical parallel to the development of human infants. These chatbots, equipped with vast amounts of existing data and a repertoire of algorithms, can be likened to babies who are born with an extraordinary capacity for memory and computation. However, their true growth and nature lie not in their initial capabilities, but in how we nurture and interact with them. The bottom line is to approach AI with care, love and ethics if we want AI systems reflect the same in future.

Elon Musk: Self driving will be there by the end of the year. Sam Altman: We really don't know when we can start training gpt-5. Research doesn't work on a set calender date. Altman just seems so well spoken and thoughtfull when comparing him to Musk. And don't get me wrong, Musk has done and will do amazing and transformative work. But Altman just seems quite a bit wiser. He doesn't mock people and just tries to be fair and a great example - a natural leader.
@satya7198
@satya7198 Год назад
Statements like those of Musk have caused quite an uptick in Tesla stocks. Besides, these statements bring in huge investments for new industries like self driving. If the technologically challenged VCs think that these technologies are just around the corner and cough up money then it's better for these companies. Even Waymo did this by collaborating with RU-vidrs and fudging stats even though researchers are well aware that the technology needed for self driving is more complex. But Musk overplayed his cards and is now almost a joke bc of his Twitter spats. I agree with you about Sam. But only time will tell if he is all that. It's hard to gauge from a few interviews. Though he is noticeably quite confident abt his words.
@AI-HOMELAB
@AI-HOMELAB Год назад
@@satya7198 First of all, thank you. I didn’t expect such a detailed answer. These are some more interesting thoughts. I know that my own statement here is somewhat provocative. The idea of Musk seeking investors with exaggerated claims does make sense. But as you said, it somewhat harms his credibility. That’s something I appreciate about Sam. He comes across as very credible in his appearances. Whether this makes more sense from a market economy perspective, I don’t know - probably not. But with investments from Microsoft and a talented team in the background, he probably doesn’t have to worry too much about this. Besides, OpenAI’s goals are less about financial gain and more about safe implementation of AI in society. I believe that what one says influences one’s own perspectives. Therefore, I view Musk’s recent comments critically. But of course, a public figure and their comments depend on many factors and should not be taken at face value. Nevertheless, I find Altman’s stance refreshingly “different”.

Increased productivity and wealth sounds good but as in our current society it is the fair and sustainable distribution of it that matters. I’m not for or against AI. I think in the right context it is awesome and critically useful. I just think we have bigger issues we’ve been ignoring that need to be at the forefront of the conversation. I mean like what is the purpose of wealth or productivity, ultimately? What is the version of the world we actually want to create? If we don’t start with the end in mind and just think “oh we’ll increase productivity and wealth” without really digging deep to understand “but to what end” my concern is we may very well be playing to win, a losing game. Misaligned in our focus. Ultimately being very efficient and effective at goals that may not serve our greater aims.

I think AI is just gonna be a multiplier to our society. So the initiatives for sustainability gonna happen 10X faster, but also the military gonna 10X faster. The thing is most the initiatives of society nowadays is just for more money-making rather than humanity's well-being.

Maybe for a doctor to treat better,a teacher to teach better,a student to help him cook better as a bachelor. U asked was the idea and end goal but failed to understand, improving people and democratising is the goal

@@yashkumar3196 not demonstrating the understanding is not the same as not understanding. My belief is that intellect and AI performing it better than humans demonstrated in fact what is one of the critical and best qualities of being human. Out inner intuition. There is much demonstration these days that people do not have free will. They prove this by showing that people make decisions based on emotions then later justify them based on logic. This in my opinion only demonstrates that free will and what is human is that deeper emotion many feel disconnected from. Our free will and what makes us human is that deeper emotion and (call it) intuition.

@@yashkumar3196 I agree it will help. But the “wealth” and this who talk about “productivity” are not propel helpers or healers but based in industries that in fact undervalue those endeavours. If power and decision making itself was more evenly distributed and accessible our Venice our society would be completely different and much wealthier. True wealth. With many doctor healers and teachers yes!! That add real value to the world not just financial value which impacts for the good only indirectly and in certain cases but perpetuates individuals drives towards counterproductive end (like making money simply for the sake of it).
