I couldn't have said it better myself. I could see the tears behind his eyes and they brought tears to mine. God Bless her soul and give him and his family the courage through this difficult time. Ameen.
Every mother who sends her child to another country in pursuit of higher education knows instinctly that she may lose that child to that country but will willingly let go as the ultimate sacrifice of her love.
"Every immigrant story there is a sadness as well, A sadness of a country, a culture, and a family that left behind..., a mother who would quietly weep at night distance from the child she loved" - Fareed Zakaria. I'm almost crying. Comment where are you originally from and where do you live now.
I met fareed in New York when I was on vacation with my wife. I’m originally from Morocco and he sat and talked to us for like 20 minutes about places to visit in New York AND was happy to take a picture with us! He’s so nice! Praying for him and his family
Farid Zakaria speaking is an example when a man hides tears of sadness and love behind a solid wall of spoken silence. Our heartfelt condolences to him and our prayers to his mother, may God have mercy on her and for her to rest in peace.

My dad past away last night from the 3 cancers that ravaged his body. I too was not able to say goodbye. I won't see him until he's already been cremated. I feel this so much. I grieve with you and I send light and love you're way.
So true Fareed every immigrant's story is one of heartache and longing for home and family left behind. What a fulfilling life your mother had. Be strong🙏

Such a heartfelt tribute ! Your mother seems like a wonderful person. I’ve always enjoyed your journalism, and now it’s great to see where that fire comes from.
My sincere condolences. I cried watching this short video, since I also lost my mother a couple of months ago, and sadly, I wasn't able to see her nor say goodbye. My mother meant the world to me, and am certain you felt the same about your mother. May they rest in peace. Ameen.
I cried for Fariq as I watched him fight back his tears; he was so strong in his tribute to his mom; I always say that there’s no love than that of a mother; May you find peace and strength in dealing with your loss 😭🙏🏾

Even in death Fareed Zakaria’s mother overperforms. Her story had brought India’s plight closer to American households and increased sympathy for her nation. She truly was remarkable

My parents too live in India. I'm trying to complete my higher education. Haven't seen them for 4 years. Miss them every moment of my existence. Thank you Mr. Zakaria for sharing your story. Your parents must be really proud. May your mom's soul rest in peace!
May the Lord watch over your Mummy and Daddy. From my lips to Gods ear may you be reunited with your loving Parents in the not to distant future. Prayers, Hugs and Affection from Australia 💟💟💟
Well at least now you have Whatsup and Zoom etc - you can actually see and talk to them When I came back in the 80's none of this was available - phone calls were so costly, all I could do was write letters
For a man or women it's hurt very hurt to losing his or her mom. Fareed zakaria May Allah give you much strength to bear this sorrow. We all will meet again that resurrection day.
My beautiful deeply intelligent compassionate mother came to UK at 18 after marriage, I would see her read her favourite book inside she would have a beautiful picture of her dad. She would look at it and quietly she'd tears. May Allah bless your mother and mine with in eternal peace 🙏🙏🙏
You’ve always been a thoughtful, knowledgeable and trusted voice. I’ve always marveled at your progressive ideas that have informed so many about the world around them. Now I have a little more understanding of why.
Oh Fareed! As an Indian woman ,I am so proud of her achievements and love for her kids. She is such an incredible woman. Thank you for sharing her beautiful story.
Having lost my mother two years ago and with Mother’s Day just a few days away and most importantly as an immigrant I grieve with you and all those who Mother’s voices..laughter and love have suddenly cease to exist.. we will never forget Prayers and peace to you Fareed Zaharia
I am sorry for your tremendous loss Fareed Zakaria! I am thankful that such an eminent scholar was your mother and you being her son has moved the mantle up! You’ve definitely made her proud and so many of us inspired what it takes to be an amazing human being other than your reputation as a journalist! Best wishes to you on your journey and may India could remember your mother as a Scholar who has celebrated education lifelong!
Thank you. I, too, lost my mother recently, in Spain. I know what it's like to be thousands of miles from your family. At the end, I moved over to help her when my father died, and I'm still in Spain, confined for the virus, and still thousands of miles from my famiily - my sons. Your mother's story was amazing, and one to be shared.
I am so sorry. There is nobody like a mother and i am so sorry you were not able to be with her to say good bye. My father died as a consequence of this terrible virus too in Spain but i was fortunate that i got to go to Spain to say goodbye. May your dear mother be resting in peace.
That is so moving Fareed. Your mother and your father sound like amazing peoplewho cared not only for their family, but people as a whole. God bless her soul and yours too.
I am here as a student and I can feel entirely what you mean. My mom never shows any sadness of distance while talking to me, but I know she cries almost every nights.

Far less than what European colonial masters did all over the world. Covid-19 is such a cunny player that it probably won't go away. It might disappear for the time being and come with a new variant stronger than before.

What a gracious tribute delivered with courage and self-control. I know the amount of pain and longing you have inside the chest but you were able to let the world know beautiful bits about that great lady called "your mom".
Beautiful tribute. My 90 year old father passed away Feb. 11, 2021. He did not have COVID, but was admitted to a hospital not 10 minutes from my home. We begged the doctors to let us see Dad. They told us that death was not imminent and our request was denied. Dad died less than 24 hours later. Dad was so afraid of dying. He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to find mom in heaven. Dad died alone, in a cold empty room, with no one to hold his hand or give him comfort. Dying has become lonely and solitary. Prayers for strength to all who are experiencing this grief.
I’m so sorry for your loss and that you had to experience that! I’m sure he knew how much y’all loved him and was as brave as he could be when the time came. I know that doesn’t change anything but I hope you find peace. 💯🥰
I didnt even get to the first two minutes and started crying. You had me at she is the person who made me who I am today. Wrapping you Fareed in the loving embrace of your fans who think you are just phenomenal. I am soooo sorry. My husband is in Delhi right now and I see through him what is happening. May your memories of your Mom hold you safe and supported and immersed in love.
So very sorry for your loss, Fareed. What a beautiful and moving tribute to your wonderful mom. It is clear that her love, hard work and passion for life and education are clearly inside of you. Your moving tribute to your mom is very emotional as so many of us have lost loved ones to Covid-19 and this weekend is Mother's Day. Fareed, you also remind everyone of the sacrifice many make to emigrate to a new world. Leaving loved ones behind in order to have a better life. Your mom is quite proud of you. May she rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing. Look at all of the legacy she has left behind for you, your family and the people in India.
I’m so sorry for your loss. You gave your mother a fitting tribute in the best way you knew how. She gave you life, love and an education. You are giving her a place in our hearts. Thank you. You are a loving son, Mr Fareed.
I was watching your show when you spoke about your mother passing away. I was so moved. Beautiful tribute. And much much more. You convey so much in your tribute about your mom, about your family’s values, about every immigrant’s mother’s love for her children. Thank you for sharing this with the world. May her memory be a blessing ❤️🙏
