If you want a large single bowl but want to fill up a section with soapy water occasionally, simply use a dish pan that fits into half your sink. That's what our great-grandmothers did!

I am a professional cook and I've worked with many different sinks. I much prefer the double sinks as I clean as I go. So on one side I can wash vegetables, the other side I can wash a pot a few seconds later and then rinse it. It drive me crazy working with one sink now. I hate having to wait and wash all the dishes at once. It's a personal preference but clean as you go is much harder with one sink. And the dish pans put in one sink are too small, in my opinion. Plus if you always have a sink with clean water, it's so much easier to wash your hands in the sink.

Really good point! We all use our kitchens differently, so there is no one-size-fits-all sink or kitchen layout even.

That's my dilemma. I've hate out double sink because it's too small for my big pots However, I'm afraid I would hate the single sink for the reasons you described. A shorter division also might be annoying because the divider could get in the way while washing large items.

Not a professional, but I like to cook and saving dishes is the last thing on my mind, so I also clean one or two things as a time as I go to kill some time while my fond is reducing or my meat is searing and to reduce the amount of dishes that pile up and have to be washed all at once afterwards. I had a standard single when I bought my house but room for a standard double and an easy to open up laminate countertop, so I went that route pretty quick: like you say: have clean water in 1 bowl while there's a second bowl for rinsing veggies, draining pasta... But I struggled with washing my largest pots and oven trays in it (and those are just the things that also don't fit the dishwasher), so I changed it out again for a large single and put a bowl in it for the soapy water. My problem cleaning large items was solved but I hated dealing with the bowl, I also found that I didn't have enough storage near the cooking and prepping area... I took drastic measures: gone is the open concept kitchen with adjacent pantry, I closed off the kitchen from the dining room and opened it up towards what was the pantry space, creating a long galley kitchen. One side of the galley kitchen is a wall of storage and appliances: drawers, cabinets, wall oven, microwave, fridge, and a chest freezer that doubles as emergency/overflow countertop. The other side starts with a standard double sink, then some countertop space, two cooktops (one gas, one induction), some more countertop space, and a large single sink on the other end: best of both worlds! I LOVE having both the standard double ánd the large single, they complement eachother really well and this setup (along with the dual-fuel cooktop arrangement) is a major reason why I hope I never have to move to a smaller kitchen.

I definitely prefer a double bowl sink. Someone is always gonna put dishes in one and you can at least use the other side, a disposal is on one side, you can rinse on one side/wash on the other, just so many uses. I also prefer offset drains so if someone puts a plate in there it's not stopping the drain (my pet peeve is dishes in the sink but it's hard to train housemates. lol) I love granite composite in black best, over 20 yrs and still cleans up looking new. Stainless ends up with so many scratches and dull and always looks dirty to me.

For soaking dishes I just use the larger dishes as the vessel to soak smaller dishes. I’ll use something like a yogurt container to soak my flatware, and a pot to soak small bowls or plates. I don’t have a lot of money for fancy under-sink storage, so I just purchased appropriate-sized semi-clear plastic containers to hold cleaning supplies, etc. They’re separated by categories so I just pull the out what I need like a drawer.
@trinaroe5132
@trinaroe5132 8 месяцев назад
The BIGGEST reason for an offset drain is so a garbage disposal doesn’t take up as much usable cabinet space below. A center drain puts the disposal smack dab in the middle of the cabinet below, making the space behind it unusable and leaving small slivers of usable space on either side. An offset drain towards one side and the back leaves much more usable space for cleaning supplies or trash below.
@akiraic

you all analysing it and the only question I have is: why do you people put the dirt dishes INSIDE the sink? I mean, you use 5 cups with beverage and put INSIDE the sink, together with the plates used to eat a juicy barbecue. Now the cups that only needed a light scrub will have to go through the full soap bath and scrub because it's oily and greasy. I just rinse everything I use with right pressure water and leave OUTSIDE the sink with a drop of soap until I wash it. That habit alone cancels out the need for a double sink

I was brought up to wash the dishes in one side, and rinse them in a sink of plain hot water on the other side. The rinsing water stays hot because the dishes I'm putting in it are already pretty hot, and it rinses away the detergent residue as well as leaving them hotter than they were coming out of the wash so they dry quicker. I'm still kind of grossed out by the idea of washing dishes and not rinsing them, but running water to rinse every item separately is just wasteful of our limited supply of clean water.

I remodeled my modest ranch house kitchen 20 years ago and went with Corian countertops and an integrated corian sink. Best decision ever. The countertops were dark grey and the sink was white, and it still looked like new when I sold the house 5 years ago. I am a careful person, however, and I always let the pans cool off before I put them in the sink. Any scuffs from aluminum pans just buff out with a little Bar Keeper's Friend. (or Comet) At the time, I think the sink cost me only an extra $50 or so (they were running a deal).

We are going through a major kitchen remodel right now. Tore out a partial wall in a vaulted ceiling area that divided the space into 2 smaller rooms. One room was the kitchen, the other a front room that we never used. Tore out that partial wall and doubled the size of the kitchen. Added a huge 10.5ft x 4 ft island, with double sink in it (never had an island before). The former sink was also a double sink, against an exterior wall. Since the plumbing already existed at the former sink, we just replaced it with a smaller single prep sink. Having 2 sinks in the kitchen is really awesome! So glad we did that.

If you use a curtain instead of doors on the sink cabinet and you have pets, rethink what you store under the sink. It's common to store household chemicals down there as well as trash bins. For the safety of your pets, store the chemicals elsewhere and make sure the trash bins are lidded. The bin lids will also minimize pest infestations. Regarding sink placement, I always thought the window placement was so that the home cook could keep an eye on children playing in the yard or, in a rural situation, keep an eye out for "guests" approaching the property. I like the idea of a mirror over a wall-facing sink to a) reflect natural light into a workspace that tend to lack that feature and b) allow the home cook to see what's going on in the room behind them.

Great video! My passion is cooking, and I make a lot of messes. Many tools, pots (esp. big stockpots and cast iron), anything wood, and utensils can only be handwashed (knives, crystal, appliance parts). So I need a big 2-sided sink that can take a beating without chipping, cracking, or denting. A word about wood sink accessories and wood counter surroundings - as beautiful as they are in the beginning, water and wood don’t mix. Unless it’s well-sealed and meticulously-maintained, wood is porous and absorbs everything that falls on it - especially oil. About stainless steel, it’s only a surface coating, and CAN be permanently damaged by certain cleaning products and over-zealous scrubbing, leading to rust, especially around the drain flange.

I just got a large single bowl fireclay farmhouse sink with a middle drain installed in my mid-sized kitchen, and I absolutely love it! 😍 It's a must have if you cook with large pots and baking pans. Lol, just soak and hand wash your dishes in the large pots =D For scratches/stains, nothing beats Bon Ami and a magic eraser. This also works wonders on anything cast enamel like Le Creuset enamelware. Bar Keeper's Friend is good enough for stainless steel surfaces.

Steve, I’m also a single dweller but I love my dishwasher (I don’t mow the yard or shovel snow either). I rinse my dirty dishes and place them in the dishwasher until I get a full load to wash - usually about every other day. As others noted, I do handwash some items that aren’t dishwasher safe (mostly chef knives and cast iron cookware), also some larger pots and cutting boards that don’t fit in my dishwasher). Those things I just wash, towel dry, and put away after use. For me, a large single (undermount farmhouse) is the best way to go.

Appreciated the info. Getting ready to replace my sink and countertops. My townhome came with a u-shaped kitchen that has laminate countertops and an overmount double sink (the sink edge is raised about an inch above the countertop). Since day one, I’ve hated the double sink and it’s raised edge (doesn’t fit larger items and makes for more work cleaning the countertop after use). Thirteen years later, I’m finally getting ready to redo the sink and countertops. For their function and durability, I’ll install an undermount porcelain farmhouse sink designed for cabinet retrofits. I’ll also install manufactured quartz countertops for their durability. The sink will allow me to use two Rubbermaid tubs for the few things I hand-wash (cutlery, cast iron pans, cutting boards). I’m a bird hunter Sept thru Jan, and the farmhouse sink and tubs will work much better when cleaning birds in prep for freezing (sometimes I have around 15 to prep following a multi-day hunt). Undermounting the sink will really facilitate cleaning the countertop after prepping birds. I may opt for a worktop type farmhouse sink if I can find one made for retrofit projects. That would be nice to have for general food prep as my counter space is fairly limited.

Forget accessories integrated in your 'work station' sink - keep it clutter free less to wash and keep hygienic. As for washing large pots etc in single large sink with an overflow drainage hole (my preference) - it's all a matter of a disciplined approach - clean pots first get them out of the way (leave them drying in the empty dishwasher. Then later tackle the dishes - rinse and stack on the bench top and when you're in the mood either (1) wash and stack them in the empty dishwasher to air dry or (2) stack the dishwasher and set to run. The first approach for me conserves energy & surprisingly water and also softens hands for a manicure. And yes I wash dishes by hand every day and leave to air dry in the empty dishwasher freeing up the countertop/draining board - this process is quicker than the dishwasher as it runs through its laborious cycle. Finally rubbish bins under the sink - NO! it gets warm and humid in that space, a prime bacterial propagation environment - not only does it cause unnecessary wear 'n tear on the cupboard doors or drawers it is a source of inconvenience - sink use completing with rubbish disposal - keep them separate and independent and above all CLEAN!

Good advice. I absolutely agree with the recommendation of some sort of catch-all mat/tray/pan under the sink. A very common source of water leaks under a kitchen sink is the garbage disposal. They will eventually rust out and leak (it's not a matter of if, but when). And since this is a hidden area that doesn't get inspected very often, it can be leaking for months without even knowing. Not sure how long the leak was happening to the previous owner of my house, but I had to devise a false floor on the bottom so I had some storage and wasn't starting at a huge hole every time I opened the cabinet. That was 10 years ago - I had to replace the disposal 5 months ago when IT started leaking ... that's at least 2 and this house is only 22 years old.

Loving our new 16 SS sinks - a large 33" single basin and a bar sink by back door. My only issue is the distance between the faucet and back splash. Bar sink has 4.5 inch clearance and large sink only 1.5". If I could do it over, I would get closer to 4" behind the main sink faucet by pulling the cabinets further away from the wall. I'm constantly drying the area behind the faucet so it doesn't get mold on tile. The back splash behind the bar sink never gets wet.

Having my kitchen fully demolished and did look at a lot of sinks. Ended up with a double cast iron/porcelain with one bowl being deeper (9.5 Inches) than the other (7.5 inches). I am going to put in a dish rack to cut down on the chance of damaging the porcelain. I still wash a lot of dishes (just seem to enjoy doing it) and cook a lot so I am washing pots and pans all the time. The double bowl with the lower divider looked promising and if I did more baking where cookie sheets and roasting pans came into play I would have went with it.

A hint for keeping a cutting board from sliding around while you're cutting on it is to place a damp washcloth underneath it;;;usually keeps it in place. About the drawers and pull out shelves under a sink you need to consider accessing the plumbing when (not it...when) a problem arises. We have a filter system under our sink and my husband replaces the filter every 4 to 6 months...everything has to come out of that cabinet when he does this or he can't access the filter. We use bins that can be removed without any hardware having to be removed.

I love my extra large single sink, stainless steel. I hand wash dishes when I need to by using a rectangle washing bowl (rubber one at Wally-mart works great) I don't use a disposal, I strain everything into a large coffee can lined with a plastic bag I get from the grocery store (usually above meat or veggie section). Use coffee can lid to keep smells contained (meat scraps always go into trash)

Although I don’t like my corner butterfly sink, I have a laminate counter with a seam under the sink and have had no issues in the 38 years I’ve been in my home. That said I do not have a mitered corner preformed laminate, which is maybe what you were referring to. My counter was built on site by previous owners with sheet laminate and because the U shape kitchen is wider than the longest available sheet laminate a seam was done where it would be the least noticeable and shortest, in the front and back few inches under the left sink bowl. Absolutely no water issues, destroyed laminate or under cabinet water damage and it’s probably over 40 years old. I’m not sure exactly when the previous owners installed it, but it could be 60 years old if they did it the year they moved in.

When it comes to those double sinks with the one small bowl I find them helpful for emptying a vessel while the big bowl is blocked for instance by soaking dishes. But of course you can do that in a big sink, too when you're soaking dishes in big plastik container.

A few years back, we had a small, unnoticed water leak under the sink that only became apparent when I saw that the 5 gallon water tank for our RO water system was slowly sinking thru the particle board floor board. I cut it all out and replaced it with 3/4 " plywood, painted with multiple coats of primer and exterior paint to waterproof it, and I installed it with a small tilt so that any future water leaks will spill out onto the floor, where it will be noticed sooner. Better a puddle now than a failed cabinet box later. We are currently doing a kitchen reno, removing the failed and cracking tile and its concrete underlay, and putting down new plywood in prep for a stone top of some sort, probably quartz. Having learned about water and wood being a bad combo, EVERY bit of plywood, ESPECIALLY the edges, are getting multiple coats of primer, particularly at the sink cutout. We chose a Lordear 32" workstation single bowl, center drain stainless steel sink. Since the quartz is some ways off, I temporarily installed it in the plywood top, and it is a HUGE hit. I was able to drill 2 additional 1 3/8" holes for a total of 4, to accommodate the install of our RO water tap and a soap dispenser. Long ways to go, but at least we are no longer doing dishes in the laundry room.

Idk? My ex boyfriend had a double sink that I had a really easy time washing big pots and pans...OK granted his pans wasn't that big I think the biggest he had was a 11x9 but the skink was stainless steel and it was pretty deep. I didn't use the double sink that much other then for pots and pans because we had a dishwasher and while yes you can only fit one big pot in it, it still fit. It was a stock pot.

I have the 1 and a 3/4 size side by side now, no dishwasher . Plastic bowl in one side with very hot soapy water. The other side takes things as they need washing. They get rinsed off then put into the hot water and done all together when I'm ready. There's a draining board and a roll up drainer that i can spread over one sink as I go if extra space is needed. I am looking at getting a single large stainless steel though and a plastic bowl or 2 in the sink.

I got a very long workstation stainless steel sink with a farmhouse apron front. It's got two sections, one very large and one slightly smaller. I would have preferred drains toward the back. 47" long. The workstation ledges let you convert some of the sink into countertop or cutting board, plus all the strainer and bowl configurations. I used two tall spring-loaded spray nozzle faucets, so I don't have to deal with hoses and weights inside the cabinet. I have a garden hose bib under the cabinet for filling buchets on the floor.

Low divide double is absolutely the best. The single bowl does not consider preparation while cooking in a kitchen that is not huge. You use one side for prep/washing veggies, cooking utensils the disposal is on that side. The other side use for “clean” stuff during meal preparation. Then during final clean up now the low divide allows large pans to fit across the entire sink. My low divide has the grate that fits across the left side (for drainage for rinsed veggies or rinsed hand washed dishes) and the garbage disposal on the right side. It’s great. It is stainless. The only drawback is it doesn’t look as pretty as the large single deep enamel farmhouse looking sink.

Great video! Wish I had it when I designed my kitchen years ago. I had to do all my own extensive research. No regrets and thrilled with my choices. - Granite composite sink. Durable, hygienic and easy to clean. Temperature resistant, for pouring. No concern on placing hot pans... on my granite counters beside sink (take that! quartz counters lol). Large square ish sink.. with arched back (flat front). This design allowed my granite composite swivel water tap (matching the sink) to be mounted to the left and the matching granite composite dish soap dispenser to be mounted on the right. Sleek and luxurious look I tell you! Faucet has pull out handle to easily fill any pot sitting on the stove nearby. - Undermount sink was a MUST. Cleaning down counters right into sink much more hygienic that inadvertently pushing gunk into lip of over counter sink. Yuk! - Sink drain is center and at the BACK, allowing more usable storage under sink. I was amazed at the extra space. - Yes to flip down tray in front of sink. Great storage for occasionally used soft scrub brush which is put away once dried. NO worries about dampness as I went with thermo-foil cabinets (something you didn't cover). Easy clean, flat / flush surface that does NOT collect splashes / grime in crevasses. Yuk! ABOVE Countertop Cabinets... Nothing drives me more bananas than lost storage in these cabinets. Always ORDER AN EXTRA SHELF for each cabinet. Lower shelves to provide minimal need access above items (how much space is needed above to slide in a plate or a glass?). I now have 4 surfaces to store items. Lesser used on the top shelves. - "altitude challenged" like me and can't reach top shelves of each cabinet? Ahhh, I ordered a thin cabinet (6" wide) for below my counter. It happily stores a folding step stool that I easily bring out for the higher shelves. Pop it back when done using. No need to wander to hall closet etc to retrieve. Step stool has it's properly designated storage within the kitchen. Of course not all step stools will fit but after a couple of stores, found what I was looking for. Perfect fit! Entrance to my kitchen required an angled cabinet below the counter. Looks good but what to store? Those long baking sheets, cooling racks etc sit up and down, supported by adjustable pegs. I drillled holes and used dowlings for pegs. These large items now have a proper home, not being rearranged from inside oven. On the shelf right above them? Cook books and the countertop book holder. Clutter free IS best, especially when baking right? As you say, planning. Which is all about designing what YOU need your kitchen to perform. Thinking ahead. Yep, a few neighbour's jealous lol One even wishes she could rip her latest out and do all again. Poor thing... I'll take her out for drinks.

It depends on what you cook and how. I bake a lot and opted for a double bowl with one oversize bowl that I can fit a baking pan or roasting pan. The smaller sink is good for draining clean pots or using to prepare food while the other sink is in use.. More importantly, it is an undermount sink and has a faucet that is on the sink, not the counter, so water drains into the sink and isn't constantly on the counter.

I have a double sink that I don’t like much. It has this little half divider that’s just tall enough to make soaking a cookie sheet impossible. Since I do wash by hand, I use one sink for hot soapy water and then a scalding hot rinse water…if my dishes don’t self dry, they’re not hot enough. However…I bake quite a bit. So I need two large sinks…lol. I can’t use a disposal since I’m on septic.

Thank you for explaining the use of a double sink!!! I bought a house with a luxury kitchen, but it had a double sink that I HATED. I thought that if I could understand the purpose of a double sink and learn to use it correctly, then I wouldn't actively hate it so much. NOBODY could tell me the use. (It had a curvy asymetrical cutout from the granite, so I couldn't yank it and drop in a single bowl.) Now, I have a different house and a large single bowl. I use a container to soak my utensils...and I leave some water in my plates..rinse them... I could get a tub if I wanted to soak my dishes or hand wash them, but I don't really need to do that. Rinsing them works just fine. My friend uses the 2nd bowl as a dish drainer... which means that she really only has a very small single bowl sink on the other side. I find it weird, but her countertops don't have an awkward and ugly plastic dish drainer like mine does. I would never have anything but the biggest single bowl I could fit.

Sink garbage disposals are illegal in many cities and communities in Canada, because they put excess strain on the sewage system. Here we compost food scraps, either individually, or many communities have municipal composting programs where compost is picked up on garbage day. The resulting end product is then available to community members to pick up and use in their gardens. Re the sinks, I am most familiar with stainless steel single and double bowl sinks, and until my most recent house, I would only pick a SS double sink. However when my most recent house was renovated by the previous owners, they installed a single bowl clay-fired apron front sink. I didn't like it initially, but my husband ordered a small collapsible plastic container that we use when we only need a small basin of water. I became a convert and now I love it. We have moved and are adding a new kitchen to the new place, and I have been seriously thinking of buying one of those sinks for my new kitchen.

My dream house will have a small vintage cast iron 5ft bathtub,farmhoused into the cabinetry. Yes I know it will require the sink cabinet to protrude an additional 8-16 8nches from the wall. Next needs are combo inverted cup washer ,and large removable sprayer.

Super comprehensive video! I have a question about faucet placement on a 36” single bowl sink with an offset drain. The sink is in an island and so aesthetically it doesn’t need to be centered on anything behind the sink. Is there a best practice for where to place the faucet? I see most faucets are centered, but I was considering aligning the faucet to the side with the drain, rather than centered on the sink. Assuming the pullout sprayer adequately reaches the other side of the sink, are there cons or design mistakes with doing an offset faucet placement?
@MTKDofficial
@MTKDofficial Год назад
This is a great question. I think you're on the right track. If the pullout reaches the whole sink, I don't see it being an issue. That would be the only con. There might be increased splatter on one side of the sink, which might be annoying. And you wouldn't want the faucet to swivel out onto the countertop. So maybe a couple things to consider. But I like the idea.

@@martyo169 My engineering compulsions would never let me offset a faucet, but if I did I think I’d choose offsetting it toward the side opposite the drain. My reasoning is that I’d always be rinsing the sink down after use starting from the end opposite the drain, so I’d be starting from where the sprayer is already located.

Just watching your video now, and a couple of things about sinks and water in the kitchen that I have been thinking of (and this is because we are overdue by about 10 years for a kitchen renovation, its original 1968 with holes in the laminate floor and other issues). Our kitchen is directly over the garage, for context, on the north facing side of the house. Also, I am short (5'2"), and I don't have long reach. I also dread corner cabinets; I know that water is the #1 destroyer of homes; and 1. (My husband disagrees and says if it was a good idea, people would do it, I disagree with him because there are plenty of things that we know could be done better but aren't because people don't a) care, b) it isn't standard and ppl have a hard time thinking outside the norm). I want a whole floor drain: Both the fridge, the main sink and the filler sink all deliver water, so there is triple the potential for water issues. Ideally it would be located under the sink (there could be doors under the sink, but no cabinet per se. ie, no toe kick or cabinet bottom). The whole floor would need to gradually slope, so I think this is the part that is prohibitive. (one solution is to have a low drain around the edges of the room, MAYBE in front of the toe kick, so that all sink/fridge leaks are diverted and not "sitting" on the floor. It would also help for when mopping and squeegeeing the kitchen floor; another possible solution is to have multiple drains, under each water source, and in the garage they hook up to the same drain system) 2. Standing water issue: our current kitchen has less than an inch between the faucet and the window sill, and water collects right behind the lip of the top mounted sink, up agains the edge of the wall. I can't get hardly anything behind there to mop up the water, and it gets gross and moldy so fast. My solution is to move the sink to a wall (I will miss the view) and do a wall mounted faucet. This means the whole area around the sink can be wiped, without going around fixtures. (oh, and lets just say I abhor 4" fixtures in bathrooms, and lots of crannies, they are so difficult to clean. remember, the fancier they are, the more likely they were designed for people who hire others to do their cleaning and maintenance!). 2b. if the sink is in a corner, it would be a rectangle sink, not a 90 degree sink, which , means I would have to create a panel behind the sink for the faucet to emerge from, that can still be accessed for repairs. (any design that doesn't take into consideration the events of needed repairs, isn't a good design, in my mind.). that angled panel would probably only go up a foot or so, and then level off with a quirky shelf as likely there will probably need to be storage or open shelving above it. 2c. If the sink is not in a corner, I will choose the widest deepest sink I can, because I get stressed out leaning over the tub to clean fridge drawers and shelves. In fact I plan to know which fridge we are getting, and make sure that all the removable parts FIT in the sink! I do like having an integrated drain board to one or both sides. Regarding the sink itself: I don't like the seam of undermount sinks, they are gross in everyone's houses. I prefer not to have a top seam, because inevitably over time, they warp ever so slightly, leaving 1mm or less gap in spaces, that inevitably get gunky. However, the fully integrated sink (the one piece counter/sink situation) I don't think I am super keen on, because.....for strength, the sink needs to have a goodly amount of structure on all sides, which leads me to my next point: 3. sink position: because I am short, I find that regular faucets don't come out far enough, so I am ALWAYS leaning over to wash and rinse etc. I need the faucet to come out closer to me, and also for there not to be so much counter between me and the sink. So this makes me think I will be leaning to a farmhouse/apron style sink. 4. One reason for me to be okay doing away with cabinet doors in front of the sink, is so that i can put a 4x4 or 6x6 across the mouth of the cabinet on the floor where the toekick would be, so I can alternate my feet resting on it (ie, I need the knee space in order to bend my leg) now, that is unsightly to have an opening in front of a sink, so I could also do cabinet doors in front of the sink, that once open slide back and into the cabinet. this may serve my purpose adequately. but not if I do away with the bottom of the cabinet for the sake of the floor drain. I come from a different continent, and I find that American's (white specificially) are so picky about so many things, and then we waste so much space in our cabinet designs, and so boring in our house and space designs. I think my cabinets are going. to mostly be drawers in the base cabinets, maybe with full extension sliders, but otherwise just well waxed wood tracks. Cabinet fronts and cabinet front damage...I have been exploring different fronts, and finishes, trying to find something reasonable. Since I was about 10, I have wanted a kitchen (at least) that I could powerwash. that is ridiculous, but the idea stands in terms of how wet it needs to sometimes get, in order to clean it--or at least that is how it feels, and how lazy I am. Q: Can I put car paint enamel on cabinet fronts? I don't want them to look dull and scratched like some cars do over time. Q: behind the water faucet (and stove etc), I would like as close to 1 solid piece of whatever, because I need to not have grooves to scrub. I am thinking of doing a thin layer of corian as the rear/back splash. Does that seem reasonable? any other ideas that don't scratch/dull? I am not doing a "pot filler" by the stove for several reasons, not the least of which is because i am not in a commercial kitchen, and if i can't carry the pot from the sink to the stove, then I definitely can't carry it back to the sink when it is boiling hot. I am doing a sink near where we do tea and coffee, just enough for filling those two items, and our drinking glasses. currently our water filter is at the sink, and the number of times I have empty the sink in order to get a glass of water or fill the kettle is irritating. I think that is all my thoughts so far. I have 1968 white corian for countertops right now, and I love them and don't want to get them replaced. I can write on them in pencil (so and so's tea/coffee, so and so's meds, pets have been fed, please unload the dishwasher etc) and it just wipes off. its rough enough to write on, but smooth enough to wipe off. I think it is one of the best kitchen features ever. I am also thinking of doing a reduced depth countertop on one side of the kitchen, if it doesn't make it too unsymmetrical. I am also thinking. ofdoing a section of either marble, or something that keeps cold, and maybe running cold water to the sink under it, so that there is a cold pastry making surface. And I would love radiant floor heat in the kitchen too. I haven't figured out kitchen flooring yet. I like mexican tile, the color etc, but I live in a cold climate (virginia), and I don't know how easy it is to keep clean. Thanks for your videos! definitely introduce me to new ideas and such! this video introduced me to work sinks, which I defin need to consider!
