Limited manpower, aging equipment, devoted volunteers makes a outstanding response. The cards were obviously stacked against them from the beginning yet they fought on. Awesome work!!! To the armchair quarterbacks, go volunteer or apply for a career position.

Probably an unfinished basement, so the bottom of the treads and risers are completely open.
@retiredarthritic2083

@@ffjsb the stairs left the main floor to go to the second floor the utility (hot water tank, furnace) room in the basement was also located in the basement the area could have also had a washer and dryer in the same area of the basement but with that age of house it is most probable the basement was never finished. So the risers and treads were exposed to flame impingement and were succumbing to the fire as a result. Not saying anything against your comment just adding to it..

They didn't determine the fire started in the basement, they opened the front door to give the pressure a release location, vented the roof and windows to further the flow path through the structure and didn't apply water to the burning material. This is classic "Bad Firefighting!

Will a highly experienced Fire Chief, PLEASE Explain to me why there are SO many firemen opening multiple doors, on the roof cutting holes, breaking out so many windows, going in the window without a hose, and rarely putting water on the fire coming out of the roof, windows or on the front stairway?? They seem to have the Manpower but only one fire hose? When I was a little kid, at fire prevention week, I was told, If possible on the way out of the house, always close all the bedroom doors or all doors possible In order not to let oxygen in to feed the fire. Why are they letting SO MUCH oxygen in, and not putting water on the Fire? I'm not a firefighter, and I'm not meaning to criticize. But am I not getting something here??

Actually, I worded that wrong. Sorry. You are absolutely correct. They caused the fire to spread to the upper floors. opening the roof and breaking the windows, caused a path for the fire to follow. I meant that a person with no fire training, understands more about flow paths than “professionals”.

Before you ridicule any one particular person stop to think about something, Is it possible that the guy that “loves to go full on” is simply following orders? Or maybe he’s the guy that has the least amount of experience and gets told to take the windows? Or maybe it’s an inexperienced officer or IC that doesn’t know what to do next so the orders are take out the windows. Just because some firefighter is taking windows out doesn’t necessarily mean he is running around haphazardly smashing anything In sight just because he can.

That thick smoke plus the air you are supplying it could flashover at any second. Considering the size of the house and all the access that was available, this department failed miserably. ffjsb vent limit the fire? By turning the building into a massive chimney? There’s ventilating and controlling the flow path and there’s just smashing windows, leaving doors open and cutting holes in the roof for no real reason, there was no tactical thought out into the ventilation here, all it did was give the fire more oxygen to burn hotter and faster. They had 20 guys on the roof at the rear whilst the fire burned through the roof at the front, the fire won’t go out if we don’t put water on it.
@ffjsb
@ffjsb 4 года назад
@@Jimmythefish577 They busted the windows when they had to go defensive and hit it from the outside. Vent limiting is only for when you're doing an interior attack. At NO time did they have "twenty guys" on the roof, I don't know if they had 20 guys on the scene. Exterior attack was the only way they had to extinguish the fire, and to do that they HAD to take out the windows.
