My grandfather who was a JCO during 1971 war was often looked down upon by senior army officers due to his rank but Manekshaw personally treated him with high respect just like given to any other commissioned officers, he even said "Saab aap JCO hain, aap is fauj ka backbone hai". A highly decorated Field Marshal but gave respect even to a sipahi! Salute this great man.

I have pleasure to tell you that I have opportunity to see our great hero of 1971 india Pakistan war when he came surat to participate in parsi community function I am very sorry to say that our former prime minister mrs indira Gandhi stopped his pension after retirement He didn't tell this to anyone but when our former president Mr A P J KALAM WENT TO HOSPITAL TO MEET MR SHAM MANEKSHAW KALAM CAME TO ABOUT THIS INCIDENT HE IMMEDIATELY PAID ENTIRE PENSION AMOUNT WITH INTREST WE MUST PROUD FOR SUCH GENTLEMAN LIKE MR SHAM MANEKSHAW & MR A P J KALAM
