This is what you get when your elected officials don't have to spend the bulk of their day on the phone begging well to do people for money. They can spend the time prepping for hearings like this to properly represent the people at large. Furthermore they are not influenced by donations given by people in the business. Watch some of the other reps ask questions and you'll hear softball questions for fear of losing their next election. Katie Porter is an absolute rock star!
Unfortunately, calling for donations is part of the job. However, I don't think she has to ask that much. I'm still waiting for someone to just yield, admit they don't know, and now out before she starts her questions.
Exactly, like 2/3 of their time is spent calling rich ppl for money. It's ridiculous. I hope for public financing of elections soon (whether Democracy Dollars or some other system)

I admire Katie Porter. She doesn’t let anyone intimidate her. She gets to the core of the problem. I watch her anytime I know she’s doing the things only she is doing, exposing the lies and secrets powerful people are guilty of and she doesn’t get enough thanks.👍

Katie is intelligent and she does her homework. These people should do their homework when they know she will be present. That is their mistake and they just keep having to pay for it with embarrassment.
It's embarrassing, but it makes me wonder-- what about their jobs and paychecks is going to be different as a result? My guess is absolutely nothing. And even if the board of directors fired this guy tomorrow, so what? I'm sure he's a multi-millionaire several times over, and there's exactly zero chance that he doesn't have a golden parachute written into his contract. Firing him would work out exactly the same as giving him a fat bonus check and letting him get an early start on retirement.

Nothing wrong in calling this guy an oil baron. He is defined as a magnate ( A wealthy and influential person, especially in business.) In the oil industry. He talks slick, but Porter wasn't having it.
I love how she always asks the right questions. She is damn smart. They always under estimate her. Sadly, none of this EVER changes anything. She hands them their balls, points out inequalities and actual law breaking and nothing happens. It's a damn shame. Americans are just fodder for the rich.
That's not her fault. She's one of the better ones. She gets removed from committee assignments because she gives them such a hard time. That should tell you the obstacles she faces if you can't even question them. The system is set up so the politicians are bought. Can't expect all their puppets to rebel on their masters.
@@theuglykwan That needs to be addressed. When a representative of the people gets removed from committees for doing her job well, then WE the people need to speak up and DEMAND she get reinstated.
@@theuglykwan Exactly this. And it's not for nothing. It helps us understand which elected officials are protecting this behavior and which ones are deserving of our trust. If she had more like-minded and trustworthy colleagues, we could evoke effective change.
They dont need to go in prison they need to be or break down or subservised placing the governent above them and reminded that they have to stop trying to always twist the rules around that if they dont restrict themself there is consequences because there is no such a thing as infinite growth when everyone that works for them fall like flies and rivers around becomes acid bath for wild life

Who profits more from a gallon of gas, the "greedy oil companies" or the greedy government? One produces product while the other is a parasite. Oil companies don't force you to pay at the barrel of a gun. Government does.
Yes. End the oil depletion allowance. For those who believe in free enterprise and market forces, the market value of an oil lease can only be determined by raising the price until at least some oil claims don't receive a minimum bid. If we have no unsold oil spots in any given year, that means we can't say that we are using market forces that year. It has been since the 1800s since oil leases were not all bought when offered, I believe. Maybe it's time to trust the market, or else maybe it's time for our country to value our resources even more than the market. Oil that stays in the ground is like savings in the bank, in that it does not somehow "go bad" there. In fact, it is a better national savings plan than money in the bank. Rep. Porter gets it.
Some congress members get all the attention because they are twitter stars and not because they are getting work done. She doesn't get enough attention.
We need more strong politicians like her. 4.5% royalty and 70% tax cut on intagible cost is criminal. 100 yr old rules must be changed for these polluting oil barrons
It's interesting how all these type of proceedings are so rushed with so little time either get less people more informed people or more time. It's like a mainstream media with 10 Talking Heads elearn hardly anything
It’s because there are 20 members & they each get at least 5 minutes, depending on what the committee leaders decide. They have to cover multiple issues, so they can’t spend too much time on each one. If we get money out of politics, it will free up the time that many of them devote to fundraising. Maybe that would help.
Love K Porter, she knows royalties & profits, more importantly she's brilliant and always comes ready to work for her constituents. Hope people in Texas also learned about deregulation and oil profits after finding themselves helpless with thousands in utility bills even after the snowstorm left them without power and water.

I knew someone who did an externship for a CEO of an Oil company, at the meeting, everyone sitting at the table had their own butler to attend to them. This person was invited to one of their houses for a visit, which the CEO stated he hadn’t even been there for a year. Because he has 5 houses.

I just learned that she gets removed from committees for doing her job too well, i.e., really coming down hard on these execs. They like to deliver soft taps instead of smackdowns, because money and reelections. This won't change until WE demand it. We need to get off social media long enough to call our elected officials and make these demands.

Katie, you are our hope and light that many of us here in America have been looking for. After stumbling around in the dark with uncertainty for so long, we can once again lift our chin up and say "we have a champion for the people". Thanks for speaking your mind and educating us in that no nonsense approach. Yes. We have been cheated for so long by some of the big corporations and super rich. It's frustrating to constantly hear that there's no funding for many of the things that could greatly improve the lives of the poor and average person. Now we know some of the disservice that's been thrown at us. It's time to right the wrong. As always, there's a long hard road ahead of us. Please continue to educate us Katie, we're with you. We can't thank you enough.
