Two days of motion hearings surrounding a stand your ground defense are expected to kick off today for Ashley Benefield, the former ballet dancer accused of murdering her husband, Douglas Benefield. Detectives say Ashley went to a neighbor’s house in September 2020 claiming Douglas attacked her, so she shot him. However, during the investigation, it was discovered Douglas most likely had his back to Ashley when he was shot. The couple had reportedly gotten married 13 days after they met.

that's extremely subjective to "the human experience". Many people choose the same thing for many different reasons; some are healthy reasons, others are not. There is nothing inherently wrong with making the choices you pointed out. I wouldn't even find it gross if it came from an actual position of love, but this particular story has demons behind it.

The report made after the murder stated that a witness, which was her mother, said that Ashley got that box scratch a day before the murder while moving boxes. So Ashleys a LIAR again!

Who paid? .. Ashley's mother paid for her bail/attorney. She originally had a public defender. Ashley's mother inherited her mother's home in Bowie, Md. She sold it to a developer for a low amount of $181,000 because Ashleys mother abandoned it for over 11 years. It was left delapitated with roof caving, mold from a burst pipe in Winter, exposed electrical outlets, vermin, and overgrown yard with many city code violations. There was no way Ashley planned on moving to Maryland since the home was inhabitable and Ashley's mother could no longer afford the property taxes on it.

Her mother is complicit. Both Ashley and mother have been using many people, especially men to get their rent and bills paid ever since they lost the middle class lifestyle. Once Ashleys father divorced her mother, they started scamming neighbors, church folks, men...especially older Navy vets/pilots with $$$.

So she might be guilty of murder or self defense. The thing about these domestic issues is that it is vitally important to record EVERYTHING and report everything to 911 for documentation. If an ex is stalking you or threatening you, record him/her. Document. This is one great example of why it's needed because the spouse is deceased. He can't speak for himself. The court can't just go by your word on how things happen. Proof. Need to have proof.

Ashley called him back to the home. Ashleys mother Alicia even said Hi to him when he showed up. Ashley let him come in the home to help move boxes to the moving van that he rented. See Ashley was engaged to Dennis B. while telling Doug they could move to Maryland for a fresh start. Ashley killed Doug because in 3 days the results of her psych evaluations would be revealed. She would then loose full custody to Doug. She needed to gain full custody to gain child support payments. Ashley is too lazy and uneducated and can't get a job. Youth ballet is not a career.

lol yup but think about all the past cases where the defendant was found Not guilty, yet the evidence said otherwise. Many times, I've sworn off watching trials because I see clearly guilty people walk free. You never know which way a jury is going to go. Especially with pretty young women.

But her lawyer is arguing a completely different justification for homicide - a ludicrous argument - that her husband was a _de jure_ burglar and that she therefore had the right to kill him to defend her property. Then he weakens his argument further by attacking the integrity of a police officer on entirely spurious grounds that he made a minor redrafting of his own argument for an arrest warrant. Poor woman, she chose a dumbcluck to marry, a dumbcluck way to get out of marriage, and now a dumbcluck lawyer to defend her. Three strikes.

Most likely the first shot was to the back of the leg which made him attempt to turn to see who was shooting. Then as he turned she shot him again and it was to his right side.

How does a man in his mid-fifties marry a 24 year old after knowing her for a whole two weeks? Some people grow old and still never gain any wisdom. why not just ask her to live together it she's that great. See how we feel in 3 or 4 years. No. He just marries a complete stranger. Former Prosecutor here for both Dade and Orange counties Florida. This is NOT an open and shut case. This is a hard case. Apparently, the deceased has admitted to despicable acts during a deposition and now that’s in the transcript. That is an enormous problem for the prosecution.

@@yayger825 Ashley was the abuser!..she shot and killed Doug because she would loose full custody of Emerson to Doug once her psych evaluations would be revealed as her being unfit to parent. Doug was cleared on his evaluations. Ashley would also loose child support which she and her complicit mother would need to pay their rent and bills. We cannot wait until Ashley is convicted of this horrible murder setup.

Decent closing by the defense which surprised me because I was unimpressed yesterday. Despite this clearly being self defense because we learned Doug was an absolute maniac, I do believe the judge is going to let a jury decide. I expect that decision will be appealed like it was for Curtis Reeves and could be reversed because the facts of this case are so much different than they were for Reeves. If it does end up going to trial, this woman needs to desperately try to retain Reeves' lawyer because his representation on that case was second to none. Hope I'm proven wrong and the judge rightly decides it was SD.

It's far from clearly self defense. He was shot from behind. She was faking that they were getting back together in order to try to steal his daughter from him in Maryland. He was a psycho - I was married to someone just like him, but he never laid a hand on me or my children - just had angry outbursts and liked to throw things.
