Hey friends, I’m Dara. I’ve been in the marketing biz for over 6 years. I’ve worked in-house for a travel startup, launched several e-commerce brands, and worked agency-side on creative & paid social teams. Before that I dreamed of being a life-long humanitarian: I started my career abroad (lived in West Africa, India, AND Egypt!) and came back to my sort-of native New York City where I started (and flunked) my own business. Now I’m a Director of Paid Social at a fully-remote advertising agency. I’m probably living in an Airbnb right now :)

Thanks for the very detailed video! Having the structure is super helpful. On the ad set level you mentioned multiple interests per ad set. Are you just stacking these together? I've always heard that doing this prevents you from really knowing which specific interest group is the one that's performing. Thank you!

You nailed this video Dara. :) I would love to hear more about your consulting days! I am about to launch something for myself that allows me to enter more into the consulting space. I have found that content like this is amazing for people like me. Since I already understand all of the individual components and how to apply them to a clients needs. However, A hurdle I see for MANY clients is they struggle reading between the lines on the recommendations. Thus, why consulting seems to be a needed service. How did you go about landing so many consults?

Hi dara, thank you for this gem. I've often heard that it's important we 'validate' our creatives, copies and even funnel before increasing the budget. I am not sure what this means, and how to validate them, and at what point are they validated.

Hey Dara! Great content! Subscribing was a hands-down! Quick question, is it better to run a traffic campaign ( to landing page views ) or a conversions campaign to VC if I want a bit of traffic on my website? ( I already run tofu,mofu,bofu optimized for purchases I just wanted a little extra traffic boost ). If I choose conversions to VC will this gonna trigger my DPA campaign as well? ( VC or ATC in past x days option ). Thanks! Keep it up!

This is fantastic, thank you! I run FB ads for a couple of car dealerships, and my prospecting is a bit tricky because I can't use interest targeting. (Because car sales involve people's credit, we fall into the 'special ad' category.) I would be forever grateful for a video on setting up funnels for an industry that's limited by falling into the 'special ad' category. Thank you for your videos!

Thanks for this! I was a bit confused on one point.. You mentioned using three different ads per ad set (of different types) and also talked about using Dynamic Creative. It seems that you can only have one ad per ad set when using Dynamic Creative... so how does this work? Do you put your UGC video and banner and carousel as three types of creative in the Dynamic Ad? Or separate out the ads into different ad sets and make them each dynamic? Thanks in advance! I'd love to see a $5-10K budget for a subscription business. (We have a fitness mobile app!)

Hi Dara! Thank you a lot for the info you share. I wonder if you would like to make a video about exclusions one day. It's a kinda obvious thing, but sometimes I hear something like: don't exclude too much, you shouldn't exclude LALs from interests based audience, because your interests would be lookalike your purchases and etc. Interested in your opinion about that. Regarding the business, an agency I work for now struggling to get good results for the luxury dog treats brand. That's would be nice if you could share your opinion on how to present pet products the best and find the best audience for them.

Amazing content Dara, thank you!! I have a question regarding MOFU. Is there a way to limit the number of times it shows the ads to the retargetting audience? Meaning, after a certain time, they're not going to buy, so how can I kick them out of the funnel in order to show the content to others entering MOFU from TOFU. I hope I'm making sense.

Hey, Dara. How are you? First of all, THANK YOU A LOT for this video. I started using Facebook ads to get the first users for my Startup and I was super confused on how to do this. Your video has made everything clearer now. We have an app and our goal at the moment is to generate downloads. In this case, do you think it is better to define the campaign goal as App install or Conversion and set it as a download? Or is it just a matter of testing to identify what works best for us?

Hi DARA great video! A simple question... i have a cold audience (TOFU) to fuel an ecommerce retargeting campaign, i use a CONVERSION campaign and not traffic, as you just say. But WHAT goal? View Cart, Add to cart or directly Purchase? Someone also recommended Purchase with Landing Page Optimization!

Hello @Dara, Thank you so much for this content. I'm running an e-marketplace with several differents range & type of products (from cosmetics to food supplements°. In your opinion, on the same level of spend/month, is it okay to run different ads product on the same campaign or is it better to split the campaign regarding the type of products (one for the cosmetics, one for the food supplements, one for the slim fit products, etc.) ? Thank you :) Maybe this could be a good video to do ? What strategy if you sell the same product range or very different products.

But: If i have a campagne and a adset that works great but i feel like i should ad a new video: should i create a new ad creative in already good-running and pause the creative that burned out or should i just go and replace the burned out creative with a new one? is it going to destroy my ad and confuse facebook and make it run a new learning phase? i am scared to touch running campagnes that perform (or used to perform) good

Hi Dara! Great video! I do have 3 questions: 1) You spoke about Super LAL. Is that just adding multiple LAL in one ad set? Or you combined all the selected LAL audience and create another single LAL? 2) With regards to 18:18, I'm not too sure how to go about it - my client teaches scuba diving, swimming, and sells gears. How should my ad structure be? Because I may have the same campaign for those ads, but definitely different ads. If I run them under the same ad, wouldn't it be ineffective? But if I create a duplicate of an ad set for a separate set of ad creatives, wouldn't they be competing with each other as well? 3) Let's say we have more than 3 ad creatives we'd like to rotate. Let's say 10 or 20 ad creatives. Should they all be under one ad set? Thank you!! :)

great post! With a small daily budget of $20, what do you suggest to do when the Ad sets show "Learning Limited" and can't exit the learning phase, due to not generating enough conversions?

Use a few ad sets/campaigns as you can. Even just one campaign and one ad set. Unfortunately you’re not going to get “optimized” performance until you’re out of this phase on this budget.

Yes I do! But at this stage of testing there will be some overlap regardless. If I see something has 50+ of overlap however, I will try to find a way to condense the ad sets.

Hi Dara! I've tried that Strategy for one of my biz, and it turned out really well! It's a free service for customers in the financial industry, and we generated over 800 Leads for a CPL of €12. Is that strategy exactly the same for paid services ? For example a film production company that makes corporate film and want to generate interested leads for that service. Thank you for showing us so much value!

Another great video, ty! You mentioned adding new creative weekly to test - have you found it better to replicate the ad set and then make the changes (adding new, turning off old) or make the changes directly to the existing ad set... Which often sends everything back into learning mode?

Thanks very much for the great content. How would you suggest to structure your campaigns if you advertise in several languages? I advertise in English and French and in many countries across Europe. Shqll I have 2 interests campaigns and 2 retargeting, one of each per language?

Great video! Where in my analytics would I be able to see when the drop off is. You mentioned to start retargeting at 180 days and adjust once you figure out the drop off. Where can I find this drop off data?

Great question, you'd have to build out a nesting doll ad campaign where you had the follow ad sets: -3 days -7 days -14 days -30 days -60 days and so on... and you'll be able to see where the drop off it.

Super informative! As you scale your ABO "Testing Adsets", how do you transition them into CBO campaigns (and combine them with other adsets such as a Broad + LAL)? Also - with this new IOS deployment, does it make any sense to split the testing Adsets into their own campaigns so that the reporting is more likely to be accurate (as opposed to many ABO adsets in 1 campaign)?

I don’t plan on splitting my ad sets into their own campaigns at this time. And the main process is if you see something working... throw it into a CBO campaign. Don’t complicate it :)

Hello Dara! If the people in the retargeting lists are outside say just the united states that you have selected, will they appear? Or only people in the lists that are from US will be advertised to?

Hi Dara, thank you so much for your great content, really helps a lot! I've got a question regarding creative testing: do you run pre-tests of different variants of the creative types before you decide which three creatives you then use for the prospecting and retargeting adsets or do you just try them straight away? What would be your recommendation for new accounts that do not have data yet on which creative type is working? Thank you and greetings from Austria :)
