I can remember trying to figure things out on a cassette player and cassette (yeah I am kind of old). By the time I actually got close my tape was dragging, ruined a couple of players and cassettes this way. New technology is wonderful...lol

I learn the same way - abusing the repeat button. There’s a website that exists where you can paste a RU-vid video into that then allows you to configure a permanent loop over a specified section of it over and over again and I use that to play over sections until I get them. I also make sure that when I learn a solo or song that there isn’t first a good live video somewhere that shows exactly how they play it live which helps. If both of those don’t turn up anything useful or I’m still struggling, I’ll result to tab booklets to just see where they’re at on the fretboard - and then go back to either the loop site or live video for comparison. It’s an arduous and painful experience learning solos that aren’t well documented!

Its so cool seeing from the video and from the comments that so many of us doing the same procedure of learning a solo.. sitting alone in our room , in front of the PC and repeating the same sections over and over, plating with the song speed...

Ms. Sophie, as usual you have done a superlative job at what you do! I really enjoyed watching you get this lead and while I will say that it was clear that you had all the licks and their pitch already on lock in your head before you even started which helps immensely, your expertise, prowess and ability to pick out pitch by note on the fretboard instantly on the fly like you demonstrated clearly shined through in the video and as well, how fluently you are when it comes to picking up on a piece of music like you did right there in a matter of minutes right before all of our, your viewers eyes. It is also very touching that you still have that element of vulnerability which I love because not only does it show how still innocent and humble you are in your playing but it really casts an air of genuineness and authenticity in how you present yourself as a musician and an artist. You are still truly, even in your greatness, a breath of fresh air. Please hold onto that wonderful, fresh and in the moment appeal, and never lose it as you gain more fame and fortune. It is something that people tend to lose and then from what I have seen over the years is that many end up losing sight of the essence of what musical sound really means to the world and their ability to produce it in their own unique manner of entertaining others at the sublime level that they once did. My instincts tell me that you are not going to have that problem but that's my little 2 cents so to speak. Now, you are truly a joy to watch and wonderfully entertaining at everything that your do. I don't know how other people feel and I know that in this day and age many tend to quickly get bored with what people do in their video's and I have seen some that could really use some production advice very badly in that respect and other areas of their video's as well, but as far as I am concerned you don't have to worry about that at all, and if anything, you could actually get away with more detail and embellishing if you so chose to do so! I for one would love more of the minutia and nuance. In any case, as is typical with your work, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and only wish to encourage you to keep up the good work!

As an amateur guitarist that has tried to figure out how to play riffs and solos, sometimes successfully. It's is really great to see your process, especially since you're so good at it. It's not boring. It's really the opposite. It's really hard to do and mysterious how people do it. You're shining a light in a dark place. Thanks!

started on a violin, transferred to bass guitar, I have been playing bass guitar since I was 11, I am nearly 60 now........ some have said I was pretty good at it, played in a few bands, a few gigs, etc....... but me personally, I always only ever considered myself as a learner.......... never get big-headed that way, never let an ego get it the way of being human

I wish I had that kind of talent for guitar. I love playing but have never given it any real dedication. I have a 73" Les Paul that my buddy sold to me in the 80's for $250 CDN. I still have it and play it at least once a week. I'm 50 now so it's way too late for me to give it the attention that your level of talent would deserve. I may not have enough time left in life to get there. lol Cheer's to your talent and to me potentially getting better with the time I have remaining in this life. You Rock!

What helps is listening to the music a couple times while you read the tabs and then the next time section the song off and begin to just fingering the notes as they are in the tab (without striking them) to melt it into your muscle memory. I am doing more ear training these days but I do quite enjoy the sight reading part of music 🤓
