I am so glad you're demonstrating making items from paper quilling! There are many miniaturists who aren't comfortable with polymer clay or are just plain intimidated by it 🙋‍♀️ Hi! Im Kelly im intimidated by Fimo and Sculpey 🤦‍♀️! Its really nice to have an alternative thats cheap and plentiful and if you mess it up its not a big deal! You just get another piece of paper and quill away! I've made quite a few pieces for my house with this method and once it's painted you cannot tell it's paper. There are just so many things that can be made!!

Hi! Im Laura Im intimidated by fimo and sculpey too! 😂 I have made a few things with the polymer clay but it scares me. I worry Im going to poison myself by not washing it off my hands enough. It isnt cheap either. I have more luck with paper clay and feel safer. I can cheat a little with the paper clay. One day I will make a video how I was able to make some plates and bowls. Still cant make cup or mugs lol. My next video will explain how I cut my strips of paper for rolling and the tools I use. And some very basic ways I use it. I have never paper quilled before just use the tool. More like paper beads. When I was a young girl in the 70's lol My parents bought me craft kits. One of them was a pottery set. Except it didnt contain clay. They had various sizes of paper already rolled up. All you had to do was shape it, glue it and then paint. It wasnt miniature size either. I was so proud because I made bowls and a goblet lol. It was purely decorative but you are right you couldnt tell it was paper.😊

@@Lauras-tinyview my sister and I grew up in the 70's too. Our mom was ALWAYS doing some DIY home improvement project or a crafting project. My mom's favorite story to tell about our growing up was watching her refinish the cabinet doors in the bathroom and after she had them all put back, my sister and I, probably like 6 and 4, took the screwdrivers and took the doors back off! 😂 We used cardboard boxes and just all kinds of things you have laying around and making Barbie house 'stuff'. As far as paper and quilling I was intrigued by a short I happened upon and I was instantly mesmerized by all the absolutely amazing things that could be made by rolling up strips of paper!! It was an epiphany for sure! I have a paper cutter, 2 actually, one that chops the paper into strips and one that slices. I used a lot of colored magazine pages and started out making paper beads, again, something my sister and I did in the 80's.. Nobody seemed to know what it was, so I guess we were ahead of our time 🤷‍♀️ LOL 😹. Anyway, fast forward 25-30 years and here we are! Putting all the crafting stuff I've learned over the decades to use in one space... miniatures! That's why when I saw your things made from paper I was so excited to see it making its entrance into a new crafting arena!! Your videos and the things you're making are interesting, easy to make, and the work to reward ratio is low. People who aren't really familiar with a lot of crafting areas can make what you're demonstrating and be really happy and proud they were able to do it. Building confidence and learning that mistakes are going to happen and things rarely turn out "satisfactory" the first time we do them. My motto when I teach something is, "practice makes progress, not perfection". Doing and trying are what's important, the real satisfaction comes from believing and knowing, "hey I can do that", and having the confidence to begin. Thank you so much!

Love hearing about your childhood memories. Must of been fun to have a sister to experience that with. One of my funniest Barbie memories from back then was I found my mother’s sanitary napkins lols. I thought they were Barbie mattresses that she was hiding from me. Took the box to my room and all my Barbie’s were laying on mattresses lol. Even cut some to make pillows. I always wanted a dollhouse even as an adult. Didn’t think it would be possible until I realized I could make everything my self for almost nothing. You are so right that it’s so rewarding to make it yourself. Even if you have to make it again and again till it’s just right.. I would Love to see your creations!!

Terrific stuff!!! I’ve already made several “baskets” that you showed, weaving the card stock… instead of metal for the handle… I used a thin strip of leather. They look great. Thanks for that video. QUESTION: how do you cut thin strips of paper so they are consistently the same width???
@ComingWithTheClouds
@ComingWithTheClouds 9 месяцев назад
TinyView is using a quilling technique and I imagine she's using quilling paper (pre-made thin strips of paper) or cutting her own using a paper trimmer or paper guillotine :)
@Lauras-tinyview
@Lauras-tinyview 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! Glad you had a chance to make some of your own baskets. Your leather handles sound interesting. That is correct I used a quilling technique. I’m using the quilling tool. You could also you a paper bead roller. Which is basically the same thing. I have never tried the quilling paper but that would most definitely work. Paper trimmers would also be great to use. I just do it manually lol. I measure out on plain used copy paper the width of the strip I need. I make my measurement marks on the top and bottom of the page then line my metal ruler on the marks and run my exacto cutter or cutting tool of choice down the side of the ruler. They come out pretty close in size. Once rolled up you can’t till if they are slightly off.

@Lauras-tinyview
@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
I will definitely try to work it in somewhere. In the jug video I did show a tutorial on the mixing bowl. It was pretty quick, so you may have missed it. It was at the 5:06 minute in the video. After I made my paper quilling for miniatures video, I was looking on Amazon for quilling tools. I found something interesting that is called a quilling mold. It looks a lot like an upside paint pan. Even though I usually don’t buy tools like this ,like you, I struggle to shape the dome consistently. While waiting for it to arrive I tried using my paint pan turned over but it was too big for what I was making. Then I remembered I had some round measuring spoons. I tried the 1/8 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon. They worked perfectly for consistently making the dome shape. So for a bowl, I rolled a disk of paper the diameter I wanted my bowl to be. Then on the back side of one of the measuring spoons I pushed it onto the dome. It was perfect! The thing I ordered from Amazon worked as well. I have been wanting to show the tool and the measuring spoons as an alternative because others struggle as well to get the dome shaped right. Let me know if you try the measuring spoons and how it worked for you. I sure hope that was helpful.

@@Lauras-tinyview Not too wide, just the top rim maybe & it’s hard getting it flat on the bottom while still concave like a bowl. I used a wooden bead, but it still had too many inner ridges.

@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
@@debbiejeannoyola Make sure your strip of paper is as wide as wide as you want the rim to be. Are you trying to flatten the bottom from the bottom by pressing it onto a flat surface? Or are you pressing flat from inside against a flat surface? Pressing it flat from inside keeps it from collapsing too much. If you paint it with wood glue it should help with the ridges. It won’t be ridge free though.
