Hamilton Khaki and Tissot PRX are good watches at their price points. I would recommend saving up and getting one watch you really like instead of buying multiple watches that don’t quite do it for you.

I have to laugh because I used to think a high end, expensive watch was something over $50! My daughter and son-in-law gave me a Seiko Pressage, and I really like it! The sky is the limit when it comes to watches.

A cheap Timex or Casio quartz watch tells the time just as good an expensive mechanical watch.

Hi Ash, nice video. Enjoyed the scenic walk! I agree 100% on which Rolexes get noticed - my green dial OP36 and my Starbucks Submariner get noticed every time I wear them in public. My 36mm steel Explorer never gets noticed, which makes it a far safer watch to wear in public. It flies under the radar screen. And while I do not own one, I find the one watch that gets my attention is a yellow gold Daytona. Cheers!

I recall not too long ago, one of my watches gaining a significant amount of time per day. After some probing, I concluded it had been magnetised through travel. Eventually, it does settle down, but it can take a week or more so I took it to a jeweller and had it demagnetised.

My visits to London wrist watch ranges from a Casio MQ24 to Invicta Pro diver (£10 - £100), especially when using public transport and some time walking the streets, if visiting a nice restaurant, a nice watch (My goto nice watch at the moment is an Omega Speedmaster 42mm) is kept in a converted reading glasses case or (for example purposes) The Carl Friedrik Unico watch pouch is a good one. Once in desired safe location, swap out the watches (under the table - bathroom) and then back to the Casio when its time to go. It gives nothing for the watch spotters, and the cheap Casio can take a bash from the hustle bustle of London where the watch can sometimes tack a good old whack on the metal hand pole on the tub or bus and it tells the time just as well for that travelling period.

I Just ordered a Casio Analog MRW-200H (The exact Casio Pictured @12:00) to replace the Casio MQ24 As I have notice a crack on the lug and I thought better replace it now before it breaks and lose it. I plan to fit it with a Nato strap, makes it look a bit better than the thick rubber strap. Hopefully it will be my London (or Urban) watch for many years to come, just like the MQ24 it is replacing, which must be close to 20 years old. Its a good looking Dive watch about 44mm. For £13. You simply can't argue bang for buck.

The Oris big crown has been on my radar for many years - an unusual watch these days, in that it mixes function with a certain amount of dressiness- I’d go traditional and have a silver dial with a rose gold fluted bezel and a leather strap. A lovely timepiece.

After owning a laundry list of digital watches (many in the dustbin 👿), I returned to exclusively wearing mechanical automatic watches. Sadly, it took me 24 hours to 'remember' how they work. ⌚ There is something about growing older and realizing what you purchase now may be the last new watch one will ever have. Funny how time flies.

I’m with you on chronographs - I owned a Seiko mecha-quartz chrono for a while - a very attractive watch, but I just didn’t see the point in the extra complications, and never used them. I sold it after only a short time. The only chrono I’d purchase would be the vintage Omega Dynamic Chrono from the 1990s - I’ve always liked those - and they are a smaller (although very thick) watch with a field watch feel to them.

My buddy has a two tone bluesy sub. It is very eye catching, but somewhat understated at the same time. Not sure how it accomplishes this, but very cool.

Ash, I found your channel recently and I have been working my way through your videos. Ten years ago I retired from my full time job after 30 years service, I treated myself to an Omega Speedmaster. A lovely watch but as someone who was just starting to wear specs for reading I found the face was too busy. I traded it in for an Omega Planet Ocean on a steel bracelet, which was very comfortable on the wrist. After a year or so this was traded in for a Rolex Submariner 14060 (I very rarely wear it’s more of an investment for my Son). I used to do a lot of Scuba diving. I will be 64 this year and my daily wearer for the last 40 years has been a Seiko SKX007 or its predecessor. For your info, Seiko 5’s are not suitable for Scuba diving as they are only rated to 100 Metres, although they are okay for snorkeling. On a side note, what shoes/boots/trousers were you wearing on your walk?
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide Год назад
Olive green chinos and Ariat wellington boots (neoprene lined) as its often wet alongside the river.

Rated to over 300 feet! When will you ever dive to near that depth?
@Macm73
@Macm73 Год назад
As the owner of a chronograph I will agree the complication is kind off obsolete due to the fact almost everyone has a smart phone in their pocket these days but you could say that about most watches nowadays. How many people take a dive watch diving to 300 meters. I would say the reason watchmaking survived the quartz crisis is because people appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making a watch however irrelevant the complications become.

Good morning sirs. To put my pennyworth in ,my EDC watch is a Seiko 5 in green, mind you that I have a rotary Hendly GMT arriving soon, just to change it up for when I;m out of Tweed and in a Navy blazer to add that spash/hint of colour. For the evening if out a dress watch.

Great video Ash. My favourite Rolex is the Milgausse, awesome watch. Unfortunately now very much out of my price range! Recently purchased an Oris Diver 65. I’m enjoying it very much, Oris seem to pull of the Sporty / Classy look very well 👍🏻

Hiya Ash, you hit on one of the downsides of owning a Rolex. Once they are out of warranty, the cost of having the watch regulated is quite prohibitive.

Thank's for another great video on watch talk! I'm more than happy with my trusty Explorer 36 but it is my only quality watch and I am looking at investing in a second watch. The Datejust 36 oyster steel and yellow gold is being considered, and I would value your opinion. What do you think of "two-tone"? And would you choose the ribbed or palm dial?
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide Год назад
2-tone DJs are very classical and always look great in my opinion. I prefer symmetry in my watches (hence I tend to favour no-date models), so I would have to day the ribbed dial would be my choice, although the mint green dial is my absolute love of the current DJ collection.

Good morning Ash, once again a great video from you! Great thoughts on the subject of wristwatches! I am currently looking for a watch that I would like to treat myself to for my 50th birthday. I have the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date on my shortlist, it's a really nice watch from an independent manufacturer. I also have the Nomos Club Sport neomatik on my list. I could never really do much with the Nomos Baushaus style until Nomos released the Club line. In my opinion, the Club Sport neomatik is also a great Steel Sports watch in line with the Oyster Perpetual or Aquaterra. Best regards!

Ahhh watches. What a rabbit hole. I’m very fortunate to have a couple of conservative pieces from ‘the holy trinity’ but my most worn watches are my beloved CWC day date or the indestructible Vostok Amphibia. There really are quality watches/movements/styles out there to suit every budget.

COSC certification for a wristwatch with a diameter greater than 20mm requires an average daily rate of between -4 to +6 seconds a day, so a COSC-certified watch gaining up to 42 seconds a week still meets the certification requirements.

Hi Ash, good advice again. I bought a seiko 5 140th anniversary edition diver as my first serious watch and to celebrate my birthday I put my name down for a datejust 41 with the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. I couldn't decide between the silver, dark grey or blue dial so hopefully my ad will let me know when one becomes available. It is my first purchase with this family firm so I don't know how long it will take. I will let you know.

@j.burgess4459 Год назад
Totally agree with Ash about the colourful R-references being the eye-catching ones. However I would also say this: people might find the reality of having a watch continually noticed by some people (instead of by absolutely nobody - which is the normal situation) to be very uncomfortable. Yes, some of the glances will be admiring ones. But some will be bitter and resentful. And some - probably - will be one of unspoken criminal intent - you are becoming a potential target basically. I don't want to sound like a prophet of doom, or anything. But a guy would sadly be absolutely asking for trouble if he habitually walked the streets of any big city wearing a flashy gold Rolex.

Ash, I enjoyed this format: the walk and talk. I miss the scenery! A question, if I may...how big is your wrist? I have a 7.5 inch wrist and, sadly, a 36mm watch looks silly on me 🙁 I think 41mm would be more suitable for my size, but that will exclude my watch of choice, the Explorer. How about a 41mm OP or Datejust? As you mentioned in this episode, there's not much in it between these watch models.
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide Год назад
My wrist is 6.5 inches, so 36 - 40mm is my preferred size range for wrist watches. A 7.5 in wrist would easily accomodate a 36mm watch, but would take some getting used to, if you are more accustomed to larger pieces. I always find that watches over 40mm that do not have a bezel, tend to look large. A Submariner is 41mm, yet the visible dial is actually 36mm, the remainder of the size is taken up in the bezel, offering a quite proportionate watch. But your wrist size will take a wide range of sizes, so choose what tickles your fancy.

I will say that in the low range for watches we cannot not mentioned Swatch, for £50 we can have a watch that last forever. My Swatch was working after 10 years and I wear for 5 summer season of lifeguarding. And if we mention Seiko is a must talk of Citizen. Since Seiko stop producing the SKX the Citizen promaster is the king of its category (for me was the king even compare to the SKX) 200mt, automatic movement for £200 average. But also their eco drive movement is very solid. If someone is not into watches but is looking for a solid and reliable watch with a citizen eco drive from £200/300 will not be disappoint.
