A couple of generations ago people seriously didn't know any better. I'm from the last foam-roller bangs and burns-on-top-of-your-ears-from-the-pressing-comb generation.
OMG that little boy, if a little boy wore a tie for me because he had an inkling that I liked the color red, we'd have been High School sweethearts, and married right now. ❤
@@lalasubliminals7339 LOL, it's more that it was clear that he was sweet on her. He liked her just as she was. He was thoughtful enough to dress up for her and wear a color he wasn't even sure she liked. But if there was even a small chance it was her favorite color, it may possibly please her. That's really forward for such a young guy.
I'm a teacher and one of the highlights of my job now is seeing the little black girls walking around with their puffs, braids and beads. It makes me so happy that this generation of moms are letting their girls be natural.
I have a bestie she is black (not to be racist) she is so beautiful normally at school she has her hair puffed hair and those natural curly hair and all the girls are like “omg!! I love your hair” and she is sooooo confident im happy that she likes her own hair! But when she was 9 she only straight her hair so yeah
FallnAngel07 And from the roots?! OH NO BABY WHAT IS YOU DOING? My parents relaxed my hair for 10 years because i didn’t have “good hair” Third year natural going strong!
Hello It's not your "self". It is a piece of yourself and ANY time we center & balance our entire identity on one aspect of ourselves/lives we run into the problems we see in this video....
When I was little, I let my dad tell me that I would be prettier with straight relaxed hair. I listened to him and soon began to believe it myself. About a year ago, I stopped getting relaxers and am going natural for good! My curl pattern was too pretty to perm-away!
I never even got a chance to see my natural hair as a little girl, or at least remember. I was so amazed by it when I did the Big Chop, and still amazed by the fact that I grow as a human, while it grows. It is a beautiful journey.
I grow my natural hair out a year ago and got dreads. I had perms since I could remember but I was fucking depressed. I'm a braids type of person. I couldn't deal with my alfro. It's been 9 Months with my dreads and I'm loving it
Wow this hit home, my wife cried when she cut all of her permed hair out after telling me she was going to do it for months. 7 years later her family still asks her when she is going to change her hairstyle back to "normal" wtf. I told her family I love her natural hair and she loves it too so let it go.
Shouldn't matter what shade he falls under, in the rainbow of the human race. He was looking out for his lady as he should against anybody that's trying to bring her down, about who she is in her truest form 😊
I remember always being scared to take my natural hair to school. So I Always had extentions in. This week I'm taking my hair to school natural. Wish me luck :)
I loved how my hair would look when the braids and plaits would be combed out. I so badly wanted to rock that crinkly look, but my Nigerian mother was like "It's unkempt!" Fast forward 30 years later and it's a protective style! Bet we sistas didn't know this day was coming!
It made me mad the way she was combing that girl hair 🤦🏾♀️😭 baby where’s the wide tooth comb? Where are the sections ? Where is the water ? Where is the detangling conditioner I cannot 😭😭😭
White girl here - with wavy hair that always needs volume! I think that Black girls look cute with natural hair or braids. We need to respect that beauty comes in different shapes, sizes and textures.
I LOOOOVE THIS😭😭😭👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 SOOOOO relatable!!! And adult-Thomas is HAAAAAANDSOME!!! 👀👀👀😂😂 The kids were TOOOOOO cute, God bless ‘em! I just got my haircut abt 2-3 weeks ago and I AM LOVING IT!!! Haven’t felt this free since I was Kris’ age!!!
You read my mind!!! Lol Get out my head. I was drooling over some Thomas. Lol but on a serious note I felt like how the girl felt in the video, still feel like that sometimes even though my hair is completely natural now. Hope to become 100% confident with myself like the woman did in the video at the end.
It's amazing how this film showed self hate coming from black women and the love coming from the brother. I truly feels sorry for every girl who had to grow up this way. Thank god for the 70's
SHE LOOK GOOD WITH A FRO! MOMMA YOU TRIPPIN. Naw but in all seriousness, don’t let anyone put you down because of your hair. Especially if if you have natural hair, the community is rough....
Fathers, Mothers : Please, help your daughters and sons like their hairs ! It is important for us to go out with our hair outside without hearing you say : "it is not presentable". "It is ugly like that". Please!
NATURAL HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL!!! We've been plagued by other people's image of what is beautiful for years. Whoever you are, whatever your texture is it's beautiful!!!
I cut off 7 inches a year ago. And cut off an inch every month after to get rid of the relaxed hair. I learned to love my natural hair at age 30. Leave in conditioner definitely helped.
I think some people put to much emphasis on hair. Some people allow their hair to define them. I look at my as an accessory and I love it no matter what. No matter if it’s straight, curly, relaxed, natural, braided or with a sew in.
Anonymous Woman relaxers are bad for health, and I very strongly feel that they have been promoted for young black girls in order for them to fit into the Eurocentric beauty standard our society has. You may disagree with me, but I think it is important to recognize that pre-colonial African societies never chemically straightened their hair, and their hair was a big sign of beauty and class.
It’s more about not being afraid to embrace what you’re born with, if you don’t mind being natural then that’s not a problem, but if your so uncomfortable with your natural hair that you have to get a relaxer every month or so to look good then something should b fixed
What weave? That is her hair. She was not bald because her hair was not straight! Is this the first time you have seen a black person with their own hair? We're proud, not were proud. Every person does not have to have a twa. Did you see the child's hair when the video started? That was not a weave!!!!!!!!!
Her parent didn’t know what she was doing. Tiny as comb. From the roots. Lmao please. On dry hair. Even my mother didn’t do that. Lmao. And the kids hair is soft as well. I get the point but no
If parents tried to learn how to take care of natural hair little girls wont be out here with perms so early. My niece is 5 with a perm. smh. Her mom is letting me take care of it now but it's so damaged. I love this well done! lol
This was so inspirational 🙌🏾 I did the big chop when I was 8 years old because I hated my hair!! But now I’m 10 that was 2years ago, I love my big and puffy Afro and I will never give it up for anything😍😍
I cried when I first did the big chop and then permed it again. A year later I recut it and I STILL cried! But three years later it’s the best choice I ever made🥰
What a cute film! I remember cutting off all my relaxer and the things that people said to me. Being called African...like that’s a bad thing. I’m glad I never went back. I became a healthier person physically and mentally.
1:23 Me : thinks about when i haven't combed mah hair in a year at young age Me now after thinking : *twirling on the floor with o mighty cramps and screaming in pain*
I can’t even express how perfect this is! My name is Crys, my husband’s name is Thomas, I didn’t do the big chop but I did have several meltdowns over my hair when I was transitioning lol and I’ve broken many-a-comb in my younger years lol thank you for this refreshing reminder of why I went natural! (That’s a wig in my profile pic lol!)
My daughter 7 with a perm and her hair has grown out so much with no damges its all how you take care of it and finding the right products perming your hair is not a bad thing and going natural, is not a bad thing its all how you take care of it
