I was a passenger and my wife was driving a 2006 solara coup. We were at a stop light and got hit by an 80s model fl50 going 80 mph. That car saved our lives that day. She now has a 2016 Rav4, Toyota family for life. She actually thought that it was repairable, but after seeing the car on top of ours after we got out changed that opinion.

When I was working at WalMart tire and lube, I was their battery guy. This import needed one of those reverse polarity batteries, but we didn't stock it. The "wrong" battery would fit perfectly and the positive would go on just fine but the ground wire would not reach. The ground wire attached to the body near the battery. By merely loosening and swiveling that ground wire, I made the "wrong" battery fit perfectly. Nothing was stretched. Everything fit perfectly.

Toyota Solaras and Acura CLs were coupes made before their time. ~2000. The market wasn't ready for them. They expected older buyers to come out of their mini vans and buy more luxurious coupes... But they didn't! They found the Sienna and Odyssey to be very practical.

I have a first generation 2002 Solara V6 still running with the 1MZ-FE engine and 260,000+ miles. This dual overhead cam engine is very overlooked in the used market and does not get enough respect from 1993 onwards. There is mention of oil sludge issues, but if you changed the oil in more intervals there is no problem with it. I have heard over the years more people were not satisfied with the second generation Solara than the first generation Solara.

@ericscottstevens 2 года назад
@@Solazed I change mine also at 3,000 almost to the mile. Synthetic blend. So many oil changes I had to get a new oil pan as the old treads were stripped. My mechanic wanted to to a tap a new thread in for a new drain hole. I did not like the sound of that and possibly something going wrong with the new treads failing oil bleed and seizing the engine and went with a brand new pan. They shook their head over my decision but I felt it was a safer choice with new pan w/threads for $150.

I have an 05 coupe with a 4 cylinder 4 speed under the hood. It's very slow but gets you where you need to go. I get 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. I have a 2010 Rav4 and a 05 Lexus RX 330. Between all my cars the Solara has been the most reliable. The only thing I had to do with my Solara are struts, batteries, brake pads and oil change. That's it. My Rav4 needed an alternator and Lexus needed a power steering hose. My Solara... untouched. The downside to these cars are the interior dash. They will crack. The clear coat on the paint will also peel on you. Other than that it's a solid car.

I've got a 2005 Lexus RX330, and a 2007 RX350. These are both second gen Lexus, so they look identical. I can walk past the RX330 without realizing that I left it running. The 2GR-FE engine revs faster and has more HP at low RPMs making the RX350 significantly faster off the line than the RX330, even though they have the same transmission, including gear ratios. The 3MZ-FE engine(3.3) is very smooth and is based on the old fashion but realible closed deck engine design, without the oil squirters shooting oil at the pistons like the 2GR-FE engine has. Love both of them for different reasons, yet both are best case scenario in the worst weather.

And I put $3,000 in repairs. It has zero rust and the guy who did the work on it is a Volkswagen mechanic and he said he never seen a car this old in such good shape he was amazed at it. My wife loves it, and she doesn't have to drive my tacoma truck and put lots of miles on it, which is fine with me. I think its been a great idea to purchase it, I got lucky there. The mechanic said the one I got was the best motor for this particular car. I like the little thing.

As someone who has owned four solaras (three with the 6-cylinder and one with the 4-cylinder), I actually preferred the 4-cylinder. The 4-cylinder had cloth seats that held up significantly better over time. My 6-cylinders had leather seats (although you are able to get a 6-cylinder with cloth seats also). Note: The first generation (1999-2003) leather seats were of higher quality than the second generation (2004-2008). More importantly, the 4-cylinder had a timing chain and actually ran smoother than the 6-cylinder which had a timing belt (non-interference engine). The difference in road noise was surprisingly minimal between the two engines and in no way did the 4-cylinder feel underpowered. Either way, all my Solaras served me exceptionally well.

8:58 Wish I'd known that a few years back. My wife left her lights on during a softball game (2012 Ford Taurus), so I went to jump her with my 2014 Camry. I could clearly see the Ford battery terminals, but my Camry terminals weren't so visible (it was dark and I assumed the terminals were the same on both cars). I was wrong. After cranking it up and gassing it for several seconds, my wife says, "Hey, there's smoke coming out of the car." I quickly cut the engine and hop out, and I could smell the smoke (not thick but noticeable). I went to undue to the cables, but they were hot as heck. I threw on my gloves and pulled them off. The wires were so hot that some of the rubber melted off and stuck to my gloves. Once I realized my mistake, I connected the cables properly and proceeded without incident. The Ford, however, did have some minor electrical issues ever since that day. I would have blown the battery up had she not said something.

my father is good at engineering and when i was a kid he had a 924 porshe with the glass hatch busted. he repqired it with plexiglass to $ave. currently he owns a kompressor with a retraxtible top. it got busted. he was tellin me how he had to glue and make special clips for plexiglass cause its oil based and dont stick. i got a car on my driveway i qccidently busted the windshield cause i threw a mason jar at it. its a buick century. it only needed a fuel injector now it needs that too. we joke how we got the same luck.

I wish I had got one of these when I was younger. Would have been more reliable than the old Eclipse convertible I had lol. To be fair to Mitsubishi though, I think the previous owner did some weird crap with the electronics.

Completely unrelated to the video: Should I mod out my Ford Ranger 2001 4.0L 4WD (125k miles) or my dads 2003 f350 6.0L (104k miles)? All trucks are free of rust and run great... just curious which one I should put money into.

Bought the last model in 08. That 3.3l is fantastic! Except for the spark plug placement, awful. Power when you want it, mpg when you don't

On my Toyota Corolla GT-S 4AGE motor I left a light on and the battery died I asked someone to use jumper cables and he said “sure but you have to let me put them in” I figured okay, this guy knows that you can damage a car by jumping it wrong and wants to do it himself, okay great… well he did it backwards … luckily nothing happened, possibly a bad distributor that I replaced 6 months down the road, who knows … pissed me off though.

On your RIP link you provided it said, “Do not buy a Toyota unless it has this engine.” But here at your video it says, “Do not buy this car unless it has this engine.” This was very deceiving. 😼
