I lived in Dallas for 3 months… absolutely fucking hated it! I moved fast af. 😂😂😂 I knew I hated it the second I drove in. I was like fuckkkkk I made a mistake! I was out of there after 3 months! I have no regrets leaving.
I definitely understand!!! Im still working through the purpose of being here , and tbh now I’ve built relationships that I absolutely adore here. But if not for them I’d be miserable honestly .
You did a great job! You were not bias, and you told the truth about both places. Do not worry, you will succeed in Dallas. Also, keep in mind the speed limit is higher in many parts of Dallas, Texas than in LA. There are a few nicer highways in Dallas too.
Literally the best “city vs city” video I’ve seen. Amazing job. Like I’m blown away and so happy!!! This was super helpful. I’m living in LA but was born and raised in Dallas and thinking of moving back. I feel the exact same way about the beach in LA. Like it’s sooooooo good for my mental health so I’m afraid to leave it. But also I’m craving the slower lifestyle. Excellent job!!!
I will be moving to Dallas from LA next week and I’m very excited! My mother is still in LA, so I have a reason to come visit. I’m very happy to finally be living on my own though. Great video, lots of good insight! 🙌🏾
Hi Dear, i enjoyed your video. I too moved from LA( Long Beach) to Dallas. This is my 2nd go around as i moved here back in 2006. But now i am back. Andy's Frozen custard is the bomb. I miss the ocean also but this time around gonna retire here. There is a all natural grocery store in hurst texas. And if you haven't tried Bishop Art district you might like it. Hang in there. And your pup is adorable💗
Hey Megan! I was watching your video and it made me think about years ago when I was living in Atlanta talking to people that moved from Cali there. It’s not a Dallas problem so much as there is no other place in the United States like Cali. Even if you were in Florida with the beaches, you won’t have the beautiful hill and mountains. Florida is flatter than Texas but has beaches. Then you have to deal with the threat of hurricanes. I love the vibe and beauty of Cali. Me and my wife actually could afford to live there. The problem is what you get for the money. You really see the difference in real estate! In Cali you will need at least around 800k to get a decent home and that may be 1800 sf. That same home in a really nice neighborhood with top rank schools will net you 4000 square feet! I choose to just take the 2.5 hour flight to LA for fun! If you give it time, I guarantee you will do the same!
Thank you for the encouragement 😩 I prob should do a video on living in LA . Bc it was DEFINITELY not all peaches and creme. Thank you for your comment .🙏🏾
Exactly... When I see the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area as real estate developer, I see LAND... So, opportunity to catch the upswing of a growing & changing metropolitan area and all the other cities in Texas.. . So, it really depends on the lens, every city has the same few things, but every place has a different vibe, different, but similar problems as well.. But I think opportunity makes me deal with things much easier... Set the vision right first and move to a place that compliments the purpose.. I think that's what alot of people forget to do...
I feel you. I moved to San Antonio. It's been 4 years and I'm home sick. It's over 100 degrees, humid and if I see another taco for breakfast I'm going to die.
Driving in Dallas on the highway IS AN EXPERIENCE!! 😳😳😆😆 Yeah....the infamous "Texas Turn" as I like call it is something else. Never have I been anywhere that it is normal to get over like 500 feet from the fast lane and exit!! 😆😆
Hello! love your video. I'm from L.A as well(Torrance) and I was seeing if you were familiar with the Dallas suburbs going South? like Desoto & Duncunville? I hear about the North suburbs like Frisco, Plano etc but those are more expensive.
I have family in Desoto it is definitely more suburban vibes - I never went there to eat out of look for lively events . But if you prefer a quiet family oriented more affordable city it will be a good choice . We lived in Grand Prairie and I found myself always driving to North Dallas - so eventually we relocated up this way.
By the way I visited California and I love mountains and oceans out there. I’m Suprised so many people moved away from that. I love Dallas but it’s flat here. The cyclist in me wish we had mountains here
They don’t move because California sucks. They move because of the stress, cost of living, rat race, politics, stuff like that. Other than that, Cali is amazing. Best weather, best scenery, great food, lots to do.
Honestly we were in the wrong area for that type of stuff before. but now we are closer to the city. I’d say it’s more common here but I haven’t explored as much yet because we’ just got out here to inner city Dallas about 2 mos ago
… we didn’t move to Texas, we moved to Boulder Colorado from California and I miss California with my whole heart… we wanna move back… we miss the ocean too much. We used to live in Redondo beach SOCal…
Great video btw! I’m thinking of moving to LA area. What area did you move from? What recommendations do you have for areas that are safe, affordable (under $2K month) and near a beach within 15-30 minutes?
That’s a great question - I have been out of the loop for some time now on affordable areas I recommend stalking Craigslist or getting into a Facebook group for local management
😩 I’m sorry sis we didn’t get a Uhaul - I sold everything - I didn’t have much stuff though to be honest. We had two cars with all our clothes / tv / important stuff and drove . The uhaul drive would’ve been in the thousands and we would’ve had to ship our cars which was about 1200 / piece
We're moving to Houston from San Francisco. I'm so nervous. I heard about the heat, big bugs lol! Specific suggestions for car carriers, apartments, and jobs? Are employers open to video interviewing? Thank you for sharing this info 🙏🏾
I moved from Los Angeles to Houston. People think Houstonians are respectful. You’ll learn really fast that they have the worst attitudes. People drive really bad, this is a at will state, which means they gaslight you at work. The food is trash. But there’s food everywhere, you’ll be so bored you’ll just eat. The men are crazy, stalkers so be careful if you’re single.
Don’t move to greenspoint. Know that the airport is ghetto. Understand that the ghetto here is different from California ghetto. Everyone has a guuun. You’ll here gunshots daily. Please view your Apt before moving in because they fake the advertising photos. There’s roaches everywhere … The roaches fly. They’ll disrespect you while still having Cali plates on your car. The heat is horrible, it’ll take time to breathe. The beach is 1 hour away. It’s rains alllll the time. People are liars and can give you fake love.
In Houston it is true about the heat, humidity, and bugs. Summers are brutal in Houston. If you live in a house you don't have to have bugs. Apartment bugs can also depend on your neighbors. When you first move in your apartment: 1. De-fog, 2. Put out roach motels, 3. Put out boric acid. That way, if there was a bug problem before your arrival, you can get it in check before you move in.
Not sure if you moved yet, but I lived in Houston 3yrs and currently live in Dallas. I wouldn’t recommend living within the city as crime has really skyrocketed. Some areas I would recommend is Katy( best school district I also lived in this area),Sugarland, Cypress this is where you will find alot of local blacks, also Pearland is nice, and Kingwood. If you don’t mind living further out Spring and the Woodlands. Please be aware Houston has a really bad roach problem and they don’t discriminate and the roaches are huge and fly. Please also be aware of flooding, anywhere you live I would read the reviews and see if it says anything about flooding. Also road rage is really bad in Houston, please be cautious when driving. Also I would get a gun if you don’t already have one.
Small world I actually grew up in Grand Prairie. Your right rent prices has come up a ton lately. Not sure if you like BBQ but you should try out zavalas it’s in Grand Prairie. Another good place is Hurtados but are Méxicu style bbq. If you want america. Style bbq try out Hutchins. Little bit of a drive but worth it
Y’all should move to actual Dallas like uptown area it gives me a little more of a Cali vibe. Still no beach of course lol but I think it’s more city like hustle and bustle. Grand Prairie is more country everything is far apart. But Texas is definitely no Cali so I understand
@@Megan_Alexis Lol I'm from NC and grew up near the beach. Dallas is flat and has not one mountain nor beach. Miss the scenery. Me and my gf will be moving to Florida asap to have more outdoor options! All you can do in Dallas is eat and drink.
Not exactly when moved here dallas has lots toffee I've been to la have family in LA ,LA cool, night life in dallas is good go to DEEP ELLUM lots of music food etc,and many other music art venues, check out Joe po lake area in grand prairie nice area
Nice video. I appreciate the honesty. I will say, you are SO CALIFORNIA! LOL… I wonder what Texans think of your talk about veganism, nature, and so many things that are very California.
I'm from Los Angeles and thinking about moving to Dallas or San Antonio. I'm single and worried about safety in the cities and laws. Like laws for women and knowing it's a republican state too.
I wanna live by the water too. Was thinking about moving to FL. I’m from California originally. I live In Atl now. After 4 years I’m realizing I should’ve moved her in my 20s. But I was busy traveling the world during that time. So no regrets. Lol but yeah been thinking about relocating to Texas ( Dallas, Austin, or Huston), Florida ( Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale) or Nevada (Vegas). What are your thoughts? Anyone who can give some good advice about any would be helpful and much appreciated.
Jacksonville idk I’ve heard iffy things esp for skin folk. But Ft. Lauderdale would probs be a vibe. Make sure you like morning sunrise bc the sun sets on the west so no good ocean sunsets in Ft Lauderdale. If I moved to FL I’d want the “Cali” sunset for sure so maybe I’d consider Tampa/ Sarasota / Naples ? Idk . Currently we are in Dallas proper - left grand prairie - but now we’re wanting to head north for more nature - hiking biking and lakes. So I will keep you updated if that scratches the itch or if we’re gunna just look at FL . Or maybe out the states tbh 😩
@@Megan_Alexis thank you so much! There is absolutely nothing like California sunsets. They are unmatched, so I understand. Lol definitely keep me posted. I’ll just subscribe rn to keep my eye on you. Lol but ima do more research about FLorida options for sure.
I used to live in the ATL in my early 20s, and I had a great time, but now that I'm in my 30's I wouldn't move there. I'm back in South Florida now, so I would definitely recommend the Ft.Lauderdale area.
Dallas used to be an engineering town back in the 1950s and 1960s. Some important inventions were invented in Richardson and Irving, and the patents created wealth and jobs. This drew in people from beautiful places where there were no jobs for them. The real solution is to create jobs in the beautiful places.
I’ve not I know there’s Grand Prairie High .. seems to be a good school for music and art . 👍🏾 but I’m sure there are sites with the rankings and what not
Good video. But one thing... how in the world do you say Dallas is more diverse than Houston? I know this is about Dallas and LA so I will not harp too much on that.
Lol , you’re right 😅 idk why I said more diverse … is Houston ?- I think when I went to Houston I mainly saw black pple , when I came to Dallas I saw more of everyone , but Houston may be overall more diverse , I could’ve been limited In my experience.
Well Houston is among the top most ethnic diverse cities in the US. Most consulates in Texas most languages spoken. Southwest Houston alone is probably the highest concentration of ethnic diversity in the State. Blacks are still the minority in Houston. Dalla's diversity numbers are impressive but they're highly segregated and isolated. But either way, your decision was Dallas and I respect it. Dallas is a good place.
Houston on paper is more diverse, but Dallas is no slouch. I would actually say Dallas feels more diverse and I’m not sure why. Houston feels more like Atlanta.
Love Long Beach n la but I’m over it I moved to Atlanta for 3 years loved it but a lot of fuck shit moved back to Cali and I can’t deal nomore I’m ready to move to Dallas so bad n it can be Waco Fort Worth Driscoll not necessarily Dallas it self but that way forsure bc baybay I’m tyd of cali lmfao I got depression and anxiety I’d love a decrease lmfao
I agree with some of your points about Texas 🤔 but ain't no place like Texas and that's coming from a Floridian🌴 trust me 🐊 This place as amazing people
@Sabbatical_Wellness a lot of people tell me out of all the cities and states they been to... Flawda is definitely the most deceiving and I would have to agree 👍🏼 because what you think you know is not even close to the real sunshine state 🤐
@@truancysworld5680 that’s disheartening 🫠 I will have to keep doing research. Honestly I see myself near water but the only other place I feel like is warm enough to take advantage of it is California or Florida
I moved from California and I really miss the beach and the mountains and how people accept you. We bought a house and did not know that area was against mixed marriages. We got harasses, broken windows and horrible racial slurs written on our car and house. We did not know that we had found a beautiful small house in a land of hate. Be careful when you buy a house. There is racial hatred here.
Oh my goodness , I am so sorry that happened to you and your spouse. That is horrible to have to experience. Some people just don’t like seeing others happy. 🤍 I wish you two better things to come.
