As an instructor for esthetics, Estie school only teaches you the very minimum/ basics so you can get your 600 hours (in California) to take your exam for your license. You will NOT learn everything or be a professional Estie until you find out what you specialize in for yourself. Getting those certificates are so important to go into depth. Or hop on board with waxing at a spa or salon get your hands on experience as soon as you can

I’m in New York, registered for school last week and class begins next month. NY requires 600 hours and tuition is close to $10k. I’m super anxious but very excited and just ready to learn. This video was very informative. Thank you 😊

I love HONEST reviews! I was looking into Cosmetology but I realized I'm more excited about Esthetics. It's a shame you had to start off your experience feeling outcasted. No one should ever feel that way. I worry because I've looked into it before and it's all high school kids and I'm in my 40's and all I hear about is the "drama." I do want my focus to be on clients my own age and older. But I'm afraid of how I'll be treated by other students while I'm trying to learn. It was the same for me in college.

I just finished my program! And I felt the same way going in. When I started the class, they were on chapter 10 and by the time I finished we hadn’t gone through the whole book so I had to do them on my own. So I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way!

I’m really looking forward to lashes, makeup & body contouring but it’s good to know different things to set yourself apart. I was at a school for 3 months but ended up withdrawing because I wasn’t learning anything besides facials & waxing within that time frame they was literally just going day by day. Didn’t even get my kit the teacher was mixing products to use. My teacher ended up getting covid so that really pushed me to get out. I’m now deciding to go back but now not to have high expectations but to at least get my money’s worth. I really love beauty & know I’ll enjoy working in this field 🥰

I’m in Tampa & almost done w my program 😜! From my understanding there’s no such thing as a medical esthetician, they’re just esthetician’s with other certifications. But I’ve seen some school in Tampa that offer both programs as well

Today was my 3rd day of class & ur correct about immediate hands on !!! My fellow classmates started at the same time (12 of us) 600hrs, 4 days week 5-9pm part time was only available atm!! We received a kit a few shirts & jacket (have to wear all white, scrubs 🤍) School was 10 grand i Appiled for financial aid, which I have to start paying back a small Percentage, 6 months after graduation 😌 $500 I paid in cash for $100 application & $400 for something I can’t remember at the moment, but either way I am beyond 😊 excited! Although your video started off negative I’m glad you remained positive 👏🏽 & got your certificate & shared with us , Very inspiring ! Oh by the way I live in Connecticut, atm, I plan to open spa in Florida near future 💕

I find it strange that Florida doesn't have an all encompassing "Esthetician license" that covers all those things you mentioned you needed certificates for. Here in Minnesota we have a 600 hour esthetics course which covers facials, basic extractions, facial and body scan focus massage, eyelash extensions and full body waxing. Our 500 hour advanced practice esthetics course which covers everything else - like advanced extractions, electrical modalities, chemical peels, dermaplaning, etc. I was lucky to graduate at a time when they first started the AP Esthetician License so I was able to grandfather without having to do an extra 500 hour course. It's interesting how different each state is, but it was great to hear your experience in school!

Your book looks very different than mine... I started back in August graduating I’m May 💕 Your school was very different as well. I would’ve never thought that they’d separate your certificates from your regular classes, or a rotation schedule like that. Florida only requires 260hours?? GA is 1,000 hours. Very different experience.

Hey I’m in Cali and I went to a beauty school to become an esthetician. Unfortunately I was unable to work on men I hope to do so in the future . I’ve only been out of school for about a month now . I still feel like I left without having as much knowledge as I would have liked . Was not able to learn how to do chemical peels , eye lash extensions, microdermabrasion etc . So I will learn some things on my own . Overall I’m glad I went through and finished the program .

I am finally realizing, because of all of the time that I spend researching ingredients, and facials etc I realize firstly is in line with esthetician and then medical esthetician, and secondly I will have a lot of knowledge if I start doing this! I really am considering it! I am a single mom and put myself through computer software programming college but I am realizing that this is more of a passion for me. I also love doing make up so maybe I could take some classes on the side or get a makeup training somewhere and just do what I do. The only thing holding me back is finances. I am wondering.. what do most of the estheticians make on average, or what do yall make? Obvi if that is too personal I TOTALLY get it. But I am single now. I PLAN TO STAY single for awhile lmao. So I have to make sure I am able to support my kiddo and myself well :)

I wish you lived in Alabama. Even though they require 1,000 hours (8-9 months) to complete training in esthetics. At our school, microdermabrasion, derma plane, chemical peel, HydraFacial, Jet Clear, waxing, makeup application, basic facials (acne, anti-aging), electro current, brow and lash tinting, and more are INCLUDED. Certificates are given for most machine trainings. New students start in phase one, then after they complete 300 hours, they test into phase two. That way you're not confused sitting in a room with students that have been there. You also have the option to take advanced classes such as lash extension, electrolysis, microblading, micro needling, permanent makeup, paramedical tattooing, and more. No more than 20 students per class and they also offer cosmetology, manicure, and massage therapy! Your kit (professional grade Dermalogica products) and books are included in tuition. It's a small private school but doing amazingly big things!

I think I know what school you’re talking about. My school was on rotation too. I was thinking about going to your school for laser but driving back and wroth from Orlando was going to be to much. I think that it was terrible to pay for the paper when you paid for tuition. I was so glad to leave my school. They had higher hours and FA. I had high expectations and got whatever.

It’s so crazy how SHORT Florida is, compared to Alabama where we have to have 1000+ hours and it’s close to a year long. I’m so mad lol. And their hours are insane here. Legit like 8-10 hours a day, every day. Whyyyy is it so long in that case lol. I wanna go back to FL and get my license 😅

Here in GA, it's 1000 hours in order to take the state board exam and get licensed as an esthetician. My school is 9 months, and I'm paying $4500 out of pocket.

Im in an esthetics course rn and its so much different than you describe. Im in Cali tho. So same thing about the 2 months having another group come in but they separate us by days. So freshman together and seniors together. So everyone starts from the beginning. But theres cosmotology and nail techs and barbers in this school too. My esthetics course is 600 hours and we dont need to pay for every certificate.

Tips for perspective students, your the school first to know what to expect for the school. The school I’m starting includes everything for $17k including networking for high end spa/salons

Really girl? I'm 55 year's old and just registered for school (facial/esthisician school) and so far I feel like everyone is younger than me and I have nothing in common but more importantly being judged and treated differently just because of my age. Which makes me almost want to give up. So sad.
