Cal-Mag. My daughter was growing tomatoes outside in her garden and they had blossom-end rot and I added the Cal-mag and her next group of tomatoes and they ended up being great. Follow the instructions on the label and I watered them with the Cal-mag every two weeks and got great results. I plan to follow the same procedure this year as well. Good info on the Aerogarden. I have a VERY valuable tip: get the tiniest expanded clay pebbles you can find or if you already have a large bag of them sift or hand sort all the tiny ones you need to fill the grow basket and transplant rooted seedlings into these style gardens instead of using the expensive grow sponges. Use aluminum foil to prevent light entering. I will NEVER get ripped off on sponges again!

These are really great points. I do wonder if they give the pre seeded pods just for the learning experience. I also learned REALLY fast not to fill all the holes just by using all of those pods. But cost per hole doesn't really seem to make the farms very cost effective if you can only do one to two large plants. We haven't invested in the farm but have about 15 bounties and they are all going with various things. The cabbage is the coolest, but the broccoli has been awesome. We like to use the lights as morning night lights. They come on just before we wake up and so it gives some light in the kitchen without having to use the overhead. We also just turn off the one in the living space at night so it isn't disturbing anyone at bedtime. But yes, they are hella bright. One thing to note, is many people bought them, tried them, and likely failed because of the too many pods at once issue. There are lots of barely used Aerogardens on eBay and local marketplaces for good prices. Try a gently used one first.

The Pod replacement policy discouraged me from even using it. They want dates of purchase, manufacturing codes, make, model, and serial number of your unit (which is really fun to find when it's on the bottom and the reservoir is full of water!!) I've had many problems with their pods either not germinating or growing mold! It appears they are very time-sensitive, so I wouldn't stock up on Pods figuring you can use them next year bc they probably won't be viable. So, instead, I buy quality seeds and plant my own Pods. If one doesn't germinate, I can easily replace it with none of the hassles Aerogarden puts you through.

Do you have to use those sticky green plant covers?
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener Месяц назад
Great question. They help to reduce the amount of light that the nutrient solution is exposed to. If too much light gets in then you can end up with algae. So it is a good idea to use them. Hope that helps

@The_IndoorGardener

Any old small oscillating fan will do, no need for anything fancy. Keep it on low as you just want to simulate a gentle breeze to stimulate strong stem growth and aid with air circulation.

I’m having trouble getting seeds to germinate or grow. Water is good and seeds do fine in other media. What should I do?
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener Год назад
What seeds are having trouble germinating? When did you plant them in your AeroGarden?
@GrowingDreams
@GrowingDreams Год назад
Sometimes it’s easier to sprout seeds on a paper towel and then move them to the pod. - Spray a paper towel until moist. - place seeds on top of the paper towel. - place moist (not wet) paper towel in a plastic bag - place plastic bag in a warm area (some put it on top of the lights) I find this method is far better for sprouting. Once the plants have sprouted, you can drop them into the pods. If the seedlings get too big, you can slice one side of the pod and insert the plant into it from there.

Newbie looking to buy my first Aerogarden - wanting to get a Harvest Elite to only grow herbs in my kitchen. Is the slim better than the square one for herbs? Should I plant them all at once when only growing herbs? Any tips appreciated - Thanks.
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener Год назад
Hi Jason, Personally I like the slim as I feel it gives them more space! Depending on what herbs you want to grow would depend on how many to plant. I never recommend planting all the holes. If you are going to use all the things you plant very frequently or will prune heavily then it may be ok. Cilantro, dill and basil get quite big so I like to give them more space. Thyme is a nice lower one to grow in between. But it’s all about trying and seeing what works best for you. There isn’t a right a wrong really, just different ways of doing things! Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions

Did you ever compare the Nutrients values of growing Plants using the Aero Garden system versus growing plants outside in Natural enriched soil? Some say you would get more nutrients in growing in soil (Like 80% more) compared in growing with Aero Garden. Is there a way to fix this difference by adding more nutrients or minerals to the water?🤔 ❤ 👍 👁
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener Год назад
I love a good experiment and I may try growing two plants in the aerogarden vs soil now! I am not sure how you would test the nutrient differences but I could definitely test the difference between how they grow and how they taste. In terms of nutrients more isn’t necessarily better. I would just stick with the recommended amount personally. Too much could burn the plants or cause other imbalances. Hope that helps and thanks for the experiment/video idea!
@marccormier9554
@marccormier9554 Год назад
Oh, one of my friends that come from Quebec (That has many books of a Science and contacts mentioned that there is a difference in the amount of nutrients of about 80%). Now, i think that could affect the Size and taste of the plants. Peronnaly i wnated to do some test using Ormus mixed in with plants Food Solution mix.
@GrowingDreams

I’ve actually seen information (possibly opinion vs science) that hydroponics gives you MORE nutrients because they sit in the nutrients the entire time.
@marccormier9554

I was thinking of making Ormus and using that mixture to improve drastically the nutrient content and experiment using it. Some alchemist and plants growers on RU-vid said it made awesome effect and he also creates this mixture.

Have you tried Foliage Pro from Dyna-Gro? Ive heard from some knowledgeable people that it has the perfect ratio of nutrients for most plants, not just leafy plants. And most plants can grow in foliage pro from start to finish. (This is from people growing in bark-based soilless potting mix with no nutrients added than Osmocote) It has twice the calcium that the MG aerogarden food. I just want to hear from other people that have used it in hydro and how it went.
