Nice video. The tables were already on the ceiling though. She used some sort of gravity magic to turn everyone around. Even while they were eating and socializing, the windows and lights were upside down.

This is a series I actually found thanks to the illustrator, Miyuki Ruria, who also illustrated "The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan" and "The Reincarnated Mage with the Inferior Eyes", both great series with cool characters, interesting worldbuilding and not-so-straightforward-plot. So knowing that the illustrator likes to work on the meatier series, I was excited, to say the least. I was not disappointed. A story that has me thinking how many of the characters presented in this introductory episode will make it to the end of the series... THAT is how you set a first episode. Already creating expectations, especially where characters and worldbuilding are concerned. Now, I've yet to read any form of source material for this series, but I've been excited for this one. Alderamin in the Sky is another series on my backlog, but now that you mention is from the same author as this one, I think I'll be procuring both the novel and the anime. I'm a sucker for good worldbuilding. So, who among these hopeful and not so hopeful youngsters are the titular 7 Spellblades, and why? I'm eagerly waiting for the answer. PD: You got to admire the particular brand of mean spirit-ness and sadistic cruelty of the hooded figure that sent Katie towards the troll. That person literally declared with their actions that "Oh, really? Well, if you like your filthy trolls so much, why don't you go to them?". Nasty. What a way to set a character in LESS THAN 5 SECONDS. Who could that be?

This was a great first episode, introducing the characters and their personalities and a hint of their backstories which will be expanded on, as well as visualizing this world that i could only imagine from reading the light novels! I really like the casual way magic is used, as that was usually described in the text, so to see it blend seamlessly was great. Also, something that apparently was lost in translation in the light novels was that Nanao's speech patterns are more archaic samurai-like, and the first character that came to mind was Kenshin, so that was a great thing to find out from the anime. I am really looking forward to this and hope that it doesnt go the way of Alderamin and gets a continuation.

The students were not tossed in the air so that they can set up the tables and chairs btw. The tables and chairs were here since the beginning. The room's gravity split. They had dinner on the ceiling, where all the tables and chairs were from the beginning. Think of it as if during her speech the top of the room had inverted gravity compared to the bottom, and, at the end of the speech, the gravity inversion affected the full room rather than on the top half, so the students standing on the floor started to immediately "fall up" towards the ceiling. The slow rotation and smooth landing were the upper classmen that we see right afterwards manoeuvring them for safety, or else they would have just fallen at a normal speed, crashing on the tables. That's why when Katie enters the room late, she literally "falls up" immediately towards the ceiling as she crosses the door, only to be caught by Nanao before she hits the ground- or rather, the ceiling -, as no upper classman guided her slowly since her late entrance wasn't expected by them. That was a pretty cool setting imo :p

@@AHBrandonReviews yes i know, but my point is that that scene was even better than what you thought it was. It's so interesting that the whole scene of the banquet is literally upside down. The floor is the ceiling previous, and the upper windows are reverted when you pay attention to it. There's both a door near the ceiling and a door near the floor to use the room's ceiling and room at the same time x). Literally, 1/3rd or the episode was upside down when you think about it : ). That's a cool use of magic imo.

This 1st episode was absolutely perfect to hook me in the universe and story of Reign of the Seven Spellblades! Oliver & Nanao's dynamic is so interesting and fun to witness 😌 Both of these characters' backstory & secrets definitely looks very interesting! I will definitely watch it until the end 😎🔥

Chela's also had secret feelings even flushed when Oliver hold her wrist in vol 3 before went to rescue Pete. She also had that messed up bathroom scene in vol 4 she used their friendship to manipulate Oliver and told him she touch herself in bed, forced herself to molested him without clear consent from him

I loved this high fantasy setting that they showed off in this episode. With the talking flowers in the first scene we got then how spells works and even how common and causal magic is. And I totally agree Brandon so many magical stories miss how the world would really be like if magic really was common. As usually they are just European medieval society with a bit of spell casting. But this actually felt like magic was a part of the casual everyday world. Now I wonder and is going to look forward to if the magic in this show will be more of a soft or hard magic system

Now this is more my speed. The concept of taking in a group of promising young spellcasters from all walks of life, and throwing them to a school where the possibilities of something going wrong, may end up anywhere from minor to possible death. I love the fact that everyone has a background, and not all of them are good either. Some stories are more tragic than others, as well as some individuals coming in to the school, with either a magical background/support or, very little to no magical background /support at all. Also, this very prestigious school has its own history as well, considering as to question, "Why such a high rate of failing students, end up either consumed by their own spells/powers, or death?" or "With such a history of possible failures, how is it possible that they're able to possess a very high graduation rate?" What really grabbed me the most of it all was the fact that either you develop a group of allies/friends to help support/protect you as quickly as possible, or end up just like one of the students that nearly got killed, due to a "practical joke". In other words, its kill or be killed with some rival students. Its very beautiful with a very impressive start to the series. I'm really looking forward to what is going to happen next. Also, I'm really curious to watch how each student is going to survive, considering that one nearly died by another very unpleasant (possibly jealous) spell caster, that may want to get rid of unwanted competition. Looking forward to next time, Enjoy!!

I have been reading the LN for nearly a year. The hook of Hogwarts, but everyone is an asshole feels like it captures both the innocence of Harry Potter and the realism of the muggle world

I wanna watch this but I also having a doubt to see it through the end. I love Alderamin on the Sky story, HOWEVER I freaking HATE the ending for the novel. I am scared the author will make another of those ending for this work too.

Went into this expecting a generic magic fantasy, but I have to say that im mostly surprised. the character dynamics remind me of something right out of an early 2010s anime, the world itself has subtle worldbuilding in a similar way to harry potter, and the magic itself seems a lot more then just basic elemental spells that shoot big balls of fire for big damage. Also get the felling that there is serious lie when Princpal said that 20% don't make it . To me those numbers looked to be higher. But nonetless the anime is interested and really peaked my interest.

Honestly upon seeing it on Livechart I was like eh whatever, because it looked generic based on the thumbnail so I wasn’t really planning to go out of my way to check it out tbh….buuut if you’re talking about it then maybe it’s at least worth checking it out! (I don’t remember if I saw a trailer at some point)

I don't know Brandon... I will wait until I see more, but I really really doubt that will become a hit. It's my kind of guilty pleasure, but this first episode the characters feel kind of a bunch of stereotypes. I will watch for sure, but it is the type of anime everyone will sleep on. I hope to be wrong, but after Rakudai Kishi failed I doubt any Magic School anime so let's hope it turns out really well...

All I can say is JCSTAFF went harder on this than they did with Danmachi... and Danmachi is their baby. Their animation is always hit or miss depending on the series (i.e., Date A Live III and OPM S2), but this was really, really good.

I'm kinda curious why other people gave positive review on this anime... Also I haven't tried the light novel yet so who knows? Maybe this series is better in text? My opinion of this series.... 1 no matter how they tried to push the "this school is very dangerous" part, they are a bit over doing it because in my opinion, too many things or events are happening there especially around our Mc, it's normal in anime yes, but this one didn't feel natural... 2 Nanao is too weird, too out of place especially in early episodes, the only saving grace maybe that we know she's not from that land and at least she's not a forced existence of suddenly appeared character with Japanese name in European setting... There's also Katie thing... 3 too many awkward scene, a cool or wholesome scenes but with weird timing or just too sudden without prior proper background or basic reasoning... 4 Mc is... Inconsistent, we got a glimpse of his revenge goal but... He doesn't seem strong or maybe author's way of hiding his strength wasn't that successful or is he a weakling who recklessly tried to do revenge thingy? Maybe it'll be explained in the novel... One good thing though... The concept of sword-wielding mage is pretty make sense, it's a possible future for a world of wand wielding mage setting. Just my opinion.

I just Finished episode 1, and it has everything I like great animation great voice acting but for some reason I was bored to tears I think it was too much like Harry Potter and the music was out of place the entire episode it was too serine and calming it drove me wako I don't think I'm going to like this show I will give it more of a chance hope things get better I don't think it will be a sensation like your saying tho its missing something so far the characters are a bit bland for my palette I hope that changes.
