very true, but their relationship wasn't really that good at all. Rory was constantly walking on eggshells with him. so did Lindsay later on btw, he was just very emotionally unstable
The title refers to a movie called They Shoot Horses Don't They? about about a group of people who participate in a dance contest during the great depression. A lot of episode titles refer to a saying, a book, a movie etc, so google is definitely needed during this show lol
also, rory kissed jess and then ignored him for 3 months, and gets angry at himm when she sees him with the blonde girl, even tho she was still with dean. so, they are not the actual antagonists here and this showoff between them is not happening out of nowhere, just for ur context. and and actually it's funny, that jess ends up becoming the most sensible and mature one by the end of the show.
@@bonesmadethis8704 He didn't but he wanted to do it with her and she didn't want to. it was at a party. He almost did but Rory ran away, and then Jess and Dean got in a fight. I never really liked Jess tbh.
@@Anabellaboo wouldnt that be sa though since rory was clearly telling him to stop once they were on the bed and he didnt stop and she had to tell him no MULTIPLE times
I would honestly completely enjoy your commentary for every episode of this entire series. And uh, Rory... yeah, we're supposed to root for her but you're at the point where that becomes really difficult. Rory makes awful decisions her entire life starting in this season. 😂
She is struggling that's all. Everyone can mess up and make terrible decision. The fans are so harsh and judgmental on Rory it's paethetic. You never made terrible decision in your life or did stupid things.
@@lauriecarson6483 as someone with a big special interest in gg and having watched the show at least 12 times, i agree. i can't stand all these videos about how Rory fucked up. no, she was just very perfect in the beginning and a very normal human being with flaws and struggles later on
@@lauriecarson6483 I agree completely and it was well said too. if it wasnt for Rory's messiness, then the show would just be too idyllic and boring. Lorelai's random dating drama would get old too.
One of my favorite episodes was season 4, episode 17 when Paris and Rory go to Florida for spring break. Everyone loves to talk about Rory's "downfall" and how disappointing it was, but I felt that the show became way more interesting once she started to grow up and veer off the track a little bit. Also, I hate to admit it since I am a fan of Gilmore Girls, but I'm more in it for the nostalgia and comfort it brings me rather than the writing. The show is a little overrated and kinda boring at times.
Ummmm we all know the best episodes of Gilmore Girls is the episode where Rory goes with Logan to the Life and Death brigade event AND we all know the worse episodes is when Dean and Rory double date with Luke and Lorelei and watch Pippi.
Nah worse (for me ) is say something I cannot watch this episode i would rather be forced to only ever watch season 7 for the rest of my life then watch that one again
Punch drunk in this show is a reference to a town drink called “founders day punch” it’s an alcoholic beverage that seems to surpass the level of a Long Island Ice Tea and it’s served at every town event.
"They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" is a movie about a dance marathon, which starred Jane Fonda. It's because horses are shot if they break a leg. Bobby Brady was a character on "The Brady Bunch." Jackson is a crazy character.
@@saraxvc4 Logan cheated too yet no one hates on him. Rory cheated on dean multiple times and yet she isn't held accountable by fans as often. every single character has their flaws, not just dean and I am not defending dean's actions I am just saying that if u choose to hate on the dean then start acknowledging other characters' flaws as well.
I'm so glad this one is the one that you picked as The Best because i always thought of this episode as the most loved episode of the series because it had the highest rating on the websites i followed back in like 2004 lol. I have always really thought this was the best episode according to most of the fanbase lol. And your reaction was so fun to watch.
Kirk was my lest favorite caricature especially when he out sold the rapping paper on the kids I was almost hoping the dad's would gang up on him for that.
Just got recommended your channel literally this morning...aaaaaand now i have to watch this entire playlist!🤣 I am in love with your reactions!!! (And i grew up with this show, so seeing you piece together stuff that is laid out in other episodes - like the Jamie/Paris relationship - is just...magical!😄)
Lol lorelai ran away at 16 after getting pregnant. She is fiercely independent and won't use her parents money or ask for help. She manages an inn that hired her as a maid at 16 when she ran away and showed up begging for a job. She couldn't afford the private school rory wanted to go to, so went to her parents and they made a deal, they would pay for the private school and lorelai agreed in exchange She and rory would have dinner with them every Friday and share with them what's going on in her and rorys life (prior to that, lorelai had severe minimal contact with her parents)
dean is not the gud guy here lol pls dont be fooled. he literally broke up and got angry with rory cuz she didnt say "i love you" back to him at their 3 month anniversary. this episode is happening after all that. and he ends up cheating on his wife with rory
@@mirandad.g3964 teenagers pulls this crap all the time. He held on to long if he knew Rory liked Jess he could have broken up. Rory gets blamed for shit and the guys don't. Especially with young girls who think the guys can't do anything wrong.
@@lauriecarson6483 Seems like you're blaming the victim. Rory was wrong for stringing him along. It doesn't matter if teenagers do it all the time. It doesn't matter if she wasn't intending to. It doesn't matter if Dean or Jess were wrong in other ways. She was the one emotionally cheating. She did it so she's at fault. People hate on both Dean and Jess all the time so I don't know what you're talking about.
This episode is one of my least favorites actually for all the reasons you mentioned about how annoying the whole Jess/Rory thing is. It was interesting to hear you comment on it. Thanks for sharing!
omg this was SO FUN TO WATCH. i've seen this show all the way through at least 7 times now. my personal favorite episodes are Red Light on a Wedding Night and Road Trip to Harvard. they fit perfectly together and they're just so good
loved ur commentary!! but please don't believe these ppl saying dean is the best lmao if u actually watch the entire show you'll know how much of a build up has been between both jess and rory to lead upto this. dean is not the gud guy here lol
I just had surgery a few days ago and have been on bed rest looking for things to distract myself with. As a GG superfan, this video brought me so much joy. Please let us recommend more episodes for you to react to!!! Also, you have a spectacular voice for voice acting.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it. Unfortunately, WB just sold the CW which means the copyright rules for their shows are changing. IDK if I can make more.
Oh man. At the beginning when you were talking about how back in the day if you missed the beginning of a TV show, you would pick it up somewhere in the middle and have to awkwardly figure it out from context clues and any reruns you might catch? That is how I got into Gilmore Girls! (And Grey's Anatomy, of which I have weirdly still never watched the first season.) So many shows used to be more episodic to accommodate for that, so you didn't need to know what had gone on before to follow along. But with the shows that were a little more serialized, it was just really strange to try to figure them out sometimes. That is a weird bit of nostalgia that I hadn't really thought about.
I remember watching Gilmore Girls at a friend's house but it was just playing there while we were doing other stuff and I didn't enjoy it much (I didn't get what it was about from these snippets). One day, I randomly watched the episode when the Girls go to Harvard and from that moment on, I started watching all the following episodes on our crappy small television with not-so-good picture quality and it was dubbed in German. In my experience, you have to watch at least 5 or 10 episodes to get into a show. It's not science but it also isn't super obvious. I did it with Dawson's Creek, Everwood, Friends etc. And I didn't like DC and Friends while I was watching one random episode on TV because I didn't get the background of the characters and the stories. It's kind of sad that this will never ever happen again. Today you can start any show from episode 1 basically anytime you want.
I don't know why you popped up in my feed today, but I have watched each episode of GG at least 30 times ( the number is probably WAY higher than that) since the year 2000, and I am HERE for your reactions!
I adored your comments and interjections for this episode! You were spot on with so much of it. I also wish Dean and Shane (blonde girl) would've just begged off when those two were being so childish. And 4 in 4 is absolutely bonkers!
This is amazing!😃 I'm a Gilmore Girls fan and I agree with you regarding Rory and Jess being the bad guys here.🤦🏻♀️ Btw, this is the first video I watched and I already love your channel❤️ I laughed so hard and we share the same thoughts/values😊
i don't think they're bad guys there tbh. they're teenagers and they're just figuring out love and attraction, it's very resonable to be confused about stuff like that sometimes, even when you're an adult. that being said however, I used to think they could've handled it better until I was in a somewhat similar situation myself. figuring out your feelings is tough! especially so when you've got all the crazy hormones riding a rollercoaster
Gilmore Girls is a very important series to me. a comfort rewatch i return to often. I very much enjoyed your content in this video despite you disappointment. I also appreciate that you were super respectful and still were able to land some solid zingers. Yeah Rory is often problematic. She is far more privileged than she ever wants to admit, I look forward to watching the rest of this playlist.
If you didn’t know Kirk has multiple jobs throughout the town…he works at a bakery, installs security, termite inspector, taxi driver, etc. It’s funny every time 😂
"If he has mad cow disease then everyone in this restaurant is in mortal danger!" 🤣 "Yeah it's fine - but when do we get shot?"😂 Your comments are hilarious and your voice is very soothing.
Honestly, there were a lot of better episodes they could've picked for this series. This one relies on a lot of context that someone brand new to the show wouldn't get. Why not just show the first episode? Its great.
This is NOT the best episode. Cinnamon's wake is way better. I might even say that it is the perfect episode. Not as confusing to watch as the first episode either, since it is episode 5 of season 1. Some might argue that it is the episode where Gilmore girls truly begins (at least firing all cylinders). I highly recommend to watch that episode!
This was fabulous - i started watching as an older teen when it was airing and jumped in at the 3rd season and had to figure it out too! Your voice is very soothing by the way.
Lauren Graham (Lorelei) left her family when she got pregnant and started a new life, first as a maid at an inn, then she worked her way up to manager. She also had her daughter and resolved to bring her up in her own way. In short,"The Gilmore Girls" is about three generations of women and with the two Asian ladies...it's also about the difference between having money and being middle class.
Dean is a control freak it feels like he doesn't have any interests besides Rory,he wants to be with her 24/7 or know where she is all the time, the whole town is pressuring Rory to stay with Dean,Dean even goes to Rory's mother to talk about Rory and their relationship,Jess is a troubled teen with rough upringing from New York and he was shipped here in this crazy fairy tail town where everyone worships Rory and her mother and if you insult one of them, the whole town hates you and wants you out, Jess just arrived in town and his uncle Luke arranged a dinner with strangers because he has hots for Rory's mom, after he took a beer from the fridge to relax Lorelai started preeching and he cut her off with a insult ,since then Lorelai hates him because he is the only one that didn't praise her or worship her,Jess only has two people he likes to talk to, his uncle and Rory because she is the only one who didn't judge him and they have the same interests in literature, also Rory likes him because he has his own opinions and he doesn't agree with her all the time and also he gives her space, its the writers fault for not giving Dean some depth to his character ,a interest besides Gilmore girls. To me he was boring, they should have went with extremes like him beating up Rory in anger so that the town people and Lorelai stop saying he is perfect for Rory, Jess interacting with his uncle Luke was much more fun to me and more interesting than the main characters Lorelai and Rory's life,i would watch a spin-off of just Jess and Uncle Luke shennanigans and maybe Kirk, to me they are the best characters of the show.
@@notthemovie also while watching your reaction even before you mentioned it i started to notice for the first time that the woman Kirk was dancing with didn't get the credit for winning the dance contest too, only him? So weird lol
I'm so sorry someone recommended this terrible episode of GG for you to react to. Your comments were hilarious. I am a GG fan but you called it out perfectly. I wish you'd been recommended a decent episode, Raincoats and Recipes was a much better suggestion. It's one of those OMG moments and out of context, it would be interesting to see if you cared 🤔
This episode may be great for fans but for newcomers, any show with real mother-daughter interaction and all the main characters present would have been a lot better. Or at least an uplifting episode where Laurelai makes a lot of her jokes. The dance was an easy way for the writers to create a quick episode but it's a rather special episode than a good entry for those unfamiliar.
first video of yours i've seen and i love your trailer-narrator like voice i'm just gonna note the timestamps of the parts that made me audibly laugh and/or snort to come back to lol thank you for this gem 7:19 11:59¨ 15:25
They might have a connection, but the way his character seemed more interested in winning than Rory just kinda ruined for me. Makes me think of those guys that tell a girl to break up with their current partner because they could make them happier. And I get part of his thing is related to having no good examples, so of course he doesn't know how to express himself in a new way. Just wish they would have brought him in later.
i know… it’s hard to root for Jess when he’s very actively trying to break up a relationship. His whole character just starts as a pain in the ass. he gets better when he’s in later seasons but still, he’s so mean during his and rorys relationship
@@sharizzle09Funny you mentioned them because I adore Gilmore guys and I listened to them twice actually hehe Maybe I will go for a third round! Now I am listening to a stars hollow podcast, it is also episode by episode. They are pretty good in their own way with explaining every single pop culture reference!
You’ve made such a good point at the beginning that I almost missed how smooth your voice sounds 👌👏👏👏 our watching habits changed so much since streaming platforms were introduced
About the girl thing... yeah some shy girls really do this... it's like, y know that the guy never will come to talk with u so u just lock it with u and you friends forever.
YES this is a goodie you should try veep honestly there are so many good episodes it’s hard to pick one but I’d recommend s2 ep 5 or fro season one 5,6, or 8 all 4 are super funny and would be worth a random drop in :)
@@notthemovie have you ever considered watching 2 episodes of shorter length shows back to back (they don’t even have to be in order) but as someone with cable still I feel like it’s realistic that you get sucked into 2 episodes and it’s still the same concept of a blind watch. I thought about this for while and honestly that’s how I got into the office 😂 either way I look forward to more Gilmore girls
They said the woman's name who won "and Kirk." I really like this episode, but I got the title, so this was a little deflating, I guess. Maybe it is better to watch them in order.
5:08 Ahahahahaha.... Yes, yes pining and desperately trying not to be forwards or transparent is a waste of time. It's also emotionally and psychologically draining, and yes it is a normal teenage girl thing. Though the phone call thing is weird. It's like stocking someone on social media but trying not to get caught, and totally not abnormal.
