Two urban African-Americans, Darius (Larenz Tate), an aspiring writer, and Nina (Nia Long), an aspiring photographer, share an instant connection after a chance meeting at a Chicago club. The two bond over music, photography and poetry, and eventually begin a torrid romance. However, when Nina decides to move to New York and mend her relationship with her ex-fiancé, Marvin (Khalil Kain), it leaves Darius heartbroken, and the couple's future in jeopardy.

Fun Facts: Theodore Witcher the director of this movie didn’t want Larenz Tate for the role of Darius Lovehall because he attached Larenz Tate to his role of O-Dogg in Menace II Society. The role of Nina was originally for Jada Pinkett. Love the lashes babe. And yes, the rain is an entire paid actor in this movie. Love it. The rain, the b&w photography, the music, leather jackets, the poetry, the smoke, the jazz...this movie is just so damn cool and blvckity fvckng blvck. It's just more of a mood and a vibe than anything. Great commentary and reaction. I like how you make a statement and actually stand on it. It shows having wisdom and maturity in what the hell you are talking about in the first place. About to check out a few more on your channel. Peace sis.

I think people forget how big Larenz Tate was back in the 90s. He was literally leonardo deapirio before leonardo decaprio. All the girls fussed over him living with sisters and few of my girl cousins and their friends reaction to him whenever he was on.

BTW Steppers music and Stepping is part of local Black Chicago culture. And that jazz song they played in the bedroom is a classic song from John Coltrane. This movie has an AMAZING soundtrack including contemporary 90s R&B jams and artists as well as classic soul, R&B and jazz Classics.

Larenz Tate was one lucky 21 year old back in the day when he did this movie. This is the one movie where he doesn’t play a criminal. Such a beautiful movie and soundtrack. It’s too bad the director didn’t go on to direct any other great black movies. It was great to see Raheem from Juice in this movie. I wish he had more scenes because this movie has no violence like Juice. I can relate to every character in this movie even though Bill Bellamy was the bad friend. I feel like he deserved a second chance. What do y’all think of Bill Bellamy character?

Its a classic film. But... I must say, it was all Josie fault!!!! If Josie didn't give Nina all that childish advice, Darius & Nina would've have went through all that silly drama! They would've had a smooth connection to their relationship. Single Women keep women single.

Good reaction. There seem to be two types of romance movies in black cinema. There's the rom com fairy tale romantic movie and then there's the struggle love movie which seems to be the one they mostly make. I guess this falls under struggle.

I actually agree with you. Even though I haven’t watched a lot of romance in black cinema. Anytime you really think about it. The conflicts in the movies really give off struggle love. Which people don’t see the correlation between the conflicts and demographics of our culture
