Watching Megamind (2010) FOR THE FIRST TIME!! || Movie Reaction!

Metro Man's new passion is music BECAUSE he's so bad at it. It’s the one thing his powers can't help him with, therefore it's the one thing he actually has to work at to get better at.

In the beginning, Roxy is wearing a red dress when she hates Megamind, a purple one when she's conflicted about him, and at the end a full on blue one when she's full on into him.

Hal: "There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy, and there is no Queen of England!" If I may add to that, Hal, there is also no war in Ba Sing Se.

If Nick was pretty much any other guy I would be concerned that it took him so long to realize Hal was a creep, but after watching so many of his videos I know that he's just such a nice guy that he doesn't like seeing the worst in people until it smacks him in the face.

Megamind and Nick from Zootopia are basically the same character. "If this is all they're gonna see when they look at me, I'm not gonna try to convince them otherwise."

Titan is basically your average ‘loser’ kind of guy who is nice to get what he wants rather than any actual desire to be nice. Things don’t go his way, and he grows impatient. Add the powers he receives and automatically, you have a villain. Imagine someone like that in real life. Someone who decides a simple friendship isn’t enough, and suddenly all of those powers come to you and you’re free to just selfishly take your anger out at the entire world.

Megamind never wanted to kill Metroman, he loved the game of cat and mouse. A mutual understanding between both of them. After killing Metroman he is shocked and after doing everything he thought was bad he had nothing to do as he made no plans for him actually winning. It's such an interesting plot point, as it makes you wonder how long such a relationship would last. Honestly they're just kids, innocently playing a game. Megamind never actually wants to hurt or kill someone and knows he can never measure up to Metroman but still finds it fun.

Fun fact: if you rewatch the scene when Megamind uses the death ray on Metro Man, Metro man blips out quickly which is foreshadowing his fake death

"And this one's for space stepmom! You lied to her!" This is actually a true statement, because Megamind DID lie to minion. It was also an ad lib by Jonah Hill. The line was actually supposed to be, "And this one's all yours!"

An original movie that subverts expectations, makes you rethink the concepts of Heroes and Villains, is very funny and to top it all off is a story of redemption. What’s not to love about MegaMind?

I really like the way they set up Hal as the villain, even with minor little scenes beforehand. While Megamind clearly is conditioned earlier by his experiences in the prison and his appearance and the mistakes his gadgets cause, Hal has several moments that clearly show he really shouldn't have superpowers: -His interactions with Roxannne are very "nice guy", as in "Be nice to a girl and they are obligated to be with you", both before and after being empowered. -When Megamind comes to his apartment, he tells Megamind that the old lady down the hall has nicer stuff than him(not very heroic!) -His destruction of the Megamind dummy with absolutely lethal force. "Space Dad's"accent is based on Marlon Brando(who played Jor-El in the(best)Superman movie with Christopher Reeve(which I definitely suggest you watch down the line! It's just a heartwarming and classic hero movie!) Great choice for a reaction Nick! Can't wait for the next!

Fun fact : Ben Stiller voices Bernard who is a night guardian in a museum. Seems familiar ?

It's crazy how despite having such little screen time, Metroman is one of my favorite animated characters ever. The feeling of being pressured into doing something instead of focusing on what you love is something I myself relate to. I'm glad he didn't return at the end to save the day, it's about time the dude gets some rest.

Something I've noticed is that Minion said the bad guy doesn't get the girl. Hal's the real bad guy and Megamind ends up getting Roxanne instead if Hal.

Such a great movie, almost criminally underrated and one of will ferrells best performances. A great take on the superman origin :)

It wasn’t that she wasn’t scared she was so used to it because they’ve been doing the whole kidnap Roxanne and get beat by Roxanne routine(minis the metro man dying😅) for literally years by this point

If you’re paying close attention to Megamind transformed as Metroman, you can see his green eyes. Metroman has blue eyes.

As Spacedad, Megamind is impersonating Marlon Brando when he portrayed Jor-El in SUPERMAN as well as Vito Corleone in THE GODFATHER. :D

One thing I like that makes the audience prone to believe Megamind isn't as bad as he acts is how in the beginning Roxanne is never once afraid of him. Not only is this routine for her, but it's routine enough that she knows Megamind would NEVER let her get hurt, she's that level of relaxed and confident even while tied to a chair. She knows that all of the gadgets and 'death traps' are for show and won't actually get close enough to hurt her. Megamind called it a game, and Roxanne was just as much a part of the game as Megamind and Metro Man.

Classic nature versus nurture. Megmaind was nurtured to be evil, even when his nature is to be good. While he tried to nurture Hal to be a hero, however by his nature Hal is an ass.

I remember this movie being received as pretty average when it was released, but my sister and I love it so much!! An underrated gem.

Fun Fact: You can always see when Megamind is transformed into someone else because the person he imitates still has his green eyes.

A couple of details I like are the dress color Roxanne wears changes going from Red to black to eventually blue showing her changing to being friends with Megamind. Also some of the treasures he takes includes an Oscar, The Maltese Falcon among the other things. One other thing is this film being the better one came out the same year unfortunately as Despicable Me which ended up more successful. Besides the film basically being a parody of a superman story from the perspective of the villain The voice Megamind is imitating is Marlon Brando who was Superman’s father in the original film,

Why is this my favorite NickFlix video? PRESENTATION!

One thing I really love about this movie is Megamind and Roxanne relationship. You can tell from the very beginning that they both liked each other. The Kidnap scene was just the two of them flirting back and worth. Poor Metro man was the third wheel this whole time.

Honestly this film is so underrated, I love it so much. I shipped Roxanne and Megamind from the kidnap scene 😂😂. It’s definitely in my top 3 favourite Dreamworks films. Loved your reaction Nick 😁

In the beginning, when Megamind is ordering the laser to fire, if you pay really close attention, you see Metroman blip out for a second and show up behind Megamind, as foreshadowing for later when he's retelling the story about using his super speed to clear his head.

What I love the most about this movie is that it shows that even an evil mastermind like Megamind can change if given the chance.

This movie came out around the same time as Despicable Me which also had a similar plot but also very different. Many had thought this movie was a ripoff of Despicable Me. Sadly, this movie didn't get the recognition that it should have had but it still remains my favorite.

I’m so happy!!! This is one of my favorite movies!! If you look closely, Roxanne starts out with a red dress, then changing to a purple dress in the middle of the movie, and ending the movie with a blue dress. It represents her warming up to Megamind! I also love Titan as a villain because this movie really was ahead of its time, with a realistic “nice guy” incel who feels entitled to women

This movie is so much fun! Fun fact, you can see metro man disappear for a split second early in the movie when he does his super speed run.

That explosion is honestly one of the best I've seen in animation.

Something that was pointed out in a breakdown of this: Hals much scarier based on the small things he says even before he gets his powers. Remember the part where he mentions renting a bouncy house for his "house"? He lives in an apartment? Where would he put a bouncy house? Unless... he was lying? 🤢 constantly coaxing Roxanne to hang and getting jealous of her actual friends and relationships when like he said, they haven't even properly hung out socially so why would she throw away what she has just because your a "nice" coworker? Plus calling him nice is a joke in of itself as he's constantly trying to guilt her into believing she's in the wrong for not wanting to form a close bond with him as hes a COWORKER. Duh. Srry small rant on hal's character.

Will feral was perfect as Megamind, and also Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill

This movie never gets old. I swear, it's still one of my favourite movies

I don't think I've seen you laugh so much at a movie before. It was great to see and definitely made me smile. This movie is so underrated and the soundtrack is one of my favorites for a animated film for sure.

Little detail: everytime Megamind shapeshifts into someone else, his eyes are the only thing that stay the same. Eyes are windows to the soul after all. :)

Megamind tries so hard to be evil when he just isn't. Regarding Hal, I saw the red flags in him from his first appearance. There's so many men like him in the world.

No matter what firm Megamind is in, his eyes are always green.

The thing I love about this movie is the way how it's reflective of real world issues up to a point. There's a huge difference between someone who grows up in a rich household with everyone adoring them and someone who grows up in a poor neighborhood with no positive role models, with people looking down at them for no reason, and with less education. Also, the way Megamind keeps mispronouncing words reminds of a comment someone wrote in reference to this movie about how "people who spend a lot of time in isolation often mispronounce words", which just makes it even sadder.

Such an underrated movie!!

This is one of my favorite movies and the villain in this is so good. He's a textbook "nice guy". He acts like him being nice to Roxanne means she owes him and he acts like she belongs to him simply because he has a crush on her. Roxanne is nice to him, but keeps him at a distance because he is genuinely creepy. So many of us have met a Hal before and it's so refreshing for him to be properly put in the villains category rather than pushing the message that the female lead "should have gave him a chance" like so many other movies and shows do.

THIS MOVIE IS SO UNDERRATED AND I'M SO GLAD YOU REACTED TO IT

I love this movie. It's one of my top ten Dreamworks movies. Having said that, I'm not really a huge fan of Will Ferrell. He's a good actor, but sometimes he seems to get typecast as an overly energetic manchild, constantly screaming and acting like a buffoon, so the comedy comes across as really cringy, at least to me, so I have a hard time watching some of his movies. But he can do so much better when he's in a role where he dials it back. Yes, in this movie he plays a highly energetic and immature character, but he doesn't go too far with it. Instead of the 250% energy and 300% volume he usually brought to a role, this time he was more subdued, and even at his most energetic and frantic screaming, it was in a situation that made sense (the bombs at the museum going off, getting his hand chomped by a brainbot, a spider bit him *on his eye!).* I think the role of Megamind was Will Ferrell in his element and at the right intensity. Over the top, but not like he was trying too hard with it, and when a dramatic scene was going on, he can really show a great depth of emotion. Sadness, loneliness, pain, or warmth, joy, and a calm happiness. If love to see him in more animated movies without the director having him go off like a seven year old on a caffeine IV drip at Disney World.

I'm too early and I have nothing intelligent nor funny to say, but I can already picture Nick saying "no way" at Metroman's death. Wanna bet?

One old Disney film to watch before Halloween is “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”, mostly for the 2nd segment of the film.

So a fun small detail. If you look closely after Megamind says to fire the death ray (when the scene is showing the crowd watching the two screens) you can actually spot a flicker of Metroman hinting at when he used his super speed to go think. You can also see a flicker at the same time behind Megamind showing when Metroman was in the room with them

You know one thing there is a small detail that they put, every time that it’s mega mine in disguise, the character that he’s playing as well always have the green eyes

when I was a kid, I hated metroman for his reasons, but now I'm grown, I completely understand metroman Metro Man was tired of always being a hero. It's not that he dislikes saving people, but rather that he felt like he never really had a choice. He decided to MAKE a choice, and chose to give up crime-fighting and go into retirement. He away be of what the city needed him to be, there savior. But now he realized that he should have someone that love to be instead.

Dreamworks is the most underrated film company. They are basically equal to Disney in terms of animated movies.

This is one of my favourite movies , it’s so underrated . I love the little fun facts like the colour of roxannes dress symbolizing how she feels about mega mind but I think my favourite is metro man decided to learn music because it was something his powers couldn’t help him with so he was doing it with only his skill

During the “interrogation” scene, where Megamind traps Metroman to try to kill him, there is a moment where Metroman flickers, almost like a footage being cut, right as he changes facial expressions. showing the moment where he used his super speed to reflect on his life. He even shows up behind Megamind for a split second in that scene. It’s a nice nod to those who rewatch the movie

You seemed to really like this movie. You should watch the short "The Button of Doom". Now that is funny! When Megamind goes up to Titan and tells him he isn't a Super Villain just because of presentation, I love it! It's so true and so brilliant!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes! I was waiting for this! This is one of my favorite films and seriously a wonderfully written, funny, intelligent, clever subversive masterpiece. I really wish it had more attention back in 2010 but I'm glad it has a big fan following now. There are so many little details and subtle things that make the movie that much better each time you rewatch it. You find more things you missed the previous time around.

Oh Nick I LOVE this movie!! Did you pick up on the little detail with Roxanne's dress? In the beginning, she was in red, the complete opposite of Megamind's blue. When she was getting to know him as Bernard, she was in purple. A mixture of red and blue. At the end, when she kisses Megamind, she's in blue because she has come completely over to his side.

Despite everything, I'm actually pretty glad that Megamind became the villain instead of Metroman. Just imagine if Metroman ended up in prison.. That would not end well.

Hal in an interesting character to me. I mean, he only thinks he should "get the girl because he saved her" because Megamind told him that's how it worked, and Megamind only thinks that because he's been raised by criminals in jail and isn't very socially adapted so he only goes of what he assumes is happening with Metriman and Roxanne. I think in the beginning, Hal was just an awkward guy who had a crush on a girl who didn't like him back, but his powers and Megamind's bad advice turned him into a villain. For example, look at the scene where Hal invited her to his apartment for the bounce house party. He wanted to spend time with the girl he liked, but after he left Roxanne's field of vision, he didn't get upset about her not wanting to go with him, he got upset about how bad his suggestions were. He's an awkward guy who likes a girl, but has no idea how to actually talk with her. He doesn't do anything negative towards her except get a little jealous about someone else being here partner, not until 1) he got the powers, 2) Megamind, who he thinks is his "space dad", tells him that the hero always gets the girl. After that is when he changes from a funny, clueless, kind, lazy, awkward, good-natured, loving, dim-witted nerd to be a aggressive, insane, destructive, vengeful, abusive, truly evil, devilish, murderous, traitorous, bad-tempered, angry, sadistic guy. There's a clear difference before and after. Clearly, at least some of that was in him before, but he never acted on it. In the scene I mention, he genuinely believes his ideas were terrible, as no one else is around for him to be putting on a show, but he's so awkward and dim witted that it's just what came to mind in the moment as he was talking with her. Afterwards, when he kidnapped her to drop her and save her, as a clear misunderstanding of what saving Roxanne and "getting the girl" meant is when he goes from an awkward guy trying to get the girl to an villain. Once he has the power and expectations, and then is let down again is when he becomes a violent villain. Clearly, Hal wasn't a perfect guy, but I think having all those powers corrupted him and brought out the worst parts of his personality, and having his expectations raised by Megamind and then his crush destroying them solidified the negative parts of him. I remember reading somewhere that the inspirations for his character were Syndrome and Lex Luthor. I can see it.

I really love this movie! The aesthetic, the music, and the story are all sooooooo good.

Will Ferrell voice acting is always a treat, Oblongs is a wonderful show.

I just noticed that on Metroman's hideout, he removed the 'h' from school. Wonder if he did that so Megamind could pronounce it correctly.

When I was a kid I really liked this movie, but I didn't understand much of the meanings. Now that I am an adult and are going through the same thing as Megamind went through. This movie has become one of my favorite movies of all time

Metroman's message is often overlooked, it's alright to help others and all, but you are not responsible for anyone's happiness, you should come first on your list of priorities, and no matter how much better the world would be with your help, if you are not happy, then what's the point? Do what you love to do and be who you want to be, and don't let anyone or anything stop you or make you feel wrong for doing so.

Fun fact: Brad Pitt, the actor playing Metro Man, this is his second Dreamworks animated film. Brad Pitt’s first Dreamworks film is Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, where he played as Sinbad.
