Watching Shark Tale (2004) FOR THE FIRST TIME!! || Movie Reaction!! 

Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction!! Once again sorry for the delay, it’s just with Dreamworks/Universal, but I really have been enjoying their movies so want to still get them up!! See you tomorrow for The Muppets Movie and Sunday for Friends!!

Ah yes, the movie that somehow got nominated for Best Animated Feature, got Martin Scorsese to voice act for the first, and as far as I know, only time, and made Will Smith quit voice acting for 15 years. And yet, I can't help but love it. It's the pinnacle of "so bad it's good" movies, and I can't get enough of it.

For me, this is one of those movies that I consider to be "So bad, it's good". But I can't help but enjoy it. It still blows my mind that Martin Scorsese voices the blowfish.

Yeah, Don Lino is basically the underwater version of The Godfather.

I know that not many people like this film, but there's something about it that I loved as a kid and watch sometimes as an adult! The cast was well chosen and I enjoy the comedy. Enjoyed your reaction Nick!

A lot of people dislike this one but I honestly kind of like it, it has a sort of charm that really makes me like it too

Lenny the shark voiced by Jack Black has always been my favorite character of this movie, so sweet and kind-hearted that you can't help but love 😂💕🦈

I don't care what anyone says about Shark Tale, it's one of my favorite animated films and I actually enjoyed it more than Finding Nemo when I first saw it. I think it's because I just found the humor to be funnier, and the characters more entertaining and interesting. I definitely agree with you Nick about Lenny being your favorite, as I absolutely love him as a character too, he's so sweet and caring and they couldn't have picked a better person than Jack Black to voice him. I'm glad that you enjoyed this one.

Fun Fact, Don Lino was voiced by Robert De Niro and Sykes was voiced by Martin Scorsese, in a scene where Don Tells Sykes that they have worked together for a long time. This movie brings back so many childhood memories. While it’s not my favorite DreamWorks movie it is good.

Personally, I think this film is over hated. I find Shark Tale to be very entertaining, from the characters to the humor. Plus, the music adds on to the fun as well. Not bad for a one-off film imo.

This movie holds a special place in my heart because I watched it all the time as a kid, and I didn't understand much at all except Sharks, funny fish characters and Oscar.

Trust me when I say this Nick; when you watch The Muppet Movie, you’re definitely going to enjoy it. Also if you decide to watch the entire Muppets franchise, I completely respect that. A big majority of the Muppet films are good. My personal favorites are the first film, Muppets Take Manhattan, Muppets From Space, Muppets 2011, and Muppets Most Wanted.

i think it's one of the funniest animated movies ever. the story was mainly about Oscars character development and so the protagonist was basically Lenny. Lenny being vegetarian still cracks me up to this day😂

This movie & The Prince of Egypt tie as my # 1 favorite Dreamworks movies. And the reason why I put Shark Tale in that number 1 spot is not only because of the animation, visuals and color textures but also because of the soundtrack, which didn’t have to go so hard. If it wasn’t for Shark Tale, I wouldn’t know about the other cast members other than Will Smith and I wouldn’t be knowing about half the artists on the soundtrack. Not to mention, as a child watching this, I thought it was very impressive that an animated film has a soundtrack that’s predominantly Hip Hop and R&B. Edit: This film also taught me the definition of gold digger as a kid.

The moral point for this movie that people cannot live a lie.

I love this movie! Sure the animation sometimes leaves a lot to be desired but many movies I watched as a kid were like that (like Valiant for example) but it's really the plot, the characters and the atmosphere that really brings You in. I love that Oscar as a main characer isn't Your typical Mary Sue and the whole Lenny situation, with being different and trying to be accepted by his "family" is universaly understood and everyone can relate either to him or Angie🧡 Even Lola isn't Your typical pretty girl... Ah! I just love it and everytime it makes me smile 😊

Definitely one of my childhood favourites! I was honestly surprised when i heard some people don't like it, i love will Smith and the humour and it's just so fun! My family and i quote it so much!

I love this movie. I probably watched more than 20 times. I related so much to Lenny about not being accepted for being different. I know a lot of people shit on this movie but it holds a special place in my heart.

Two movie commentaries in a row that feature the song “A Little Less Conversation”……. Bizarre. 😂

this may not be a popular movie; or a top tier movie. But it defiantly one of my guilty pleasures that I watch when I need a movie to cheer me up.

Shark Tale is one of my favorite childhood movies ever besides Chicken Run, Shrek, Ice Age, Madagascar, Robots, Wallace and Gromit, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, Bee Movie, and Kung Fu Panda, and I still enjoy watching it so much today. Also, even though it does has some flaws, it really didn't have to be 100 percent perfect to be a good movie 'cause it's already perfect in it's own way, and it has a very interesting and unique plot, character designs, and underwater setting as well as interesting character developments too which are for the main protagonist and main antagonist.

Also, I don't know you caught onto this or not, Nick, but Lenny being vegetarian may or may not be a metaphor for being gay. Him asking "what's wrong with me?", his father not accepting him, him being different etc., it could all be a metaphor for sexuality. It's not confirmed or anything as far as I know, but even just thinking about it makes his story so much more heart-breaking. Also, if you want more Will Smith movies, if you haven't already, DEFINITELY check out Independence Day, the Men in Black movies and The Pursuit of Happyness. 😍😍😍

The soundtrack from this movie is fire.

I unironically love this movie. I thinks it's genuinely good and fun, none of that "it's so bad it's good" stuff. It deals with a lot of real world issues like gambling addiction, socal classes, the 1% (the sharks) benefiting off the working class (the fish), capitalism and even queer issues. Lenny's arc is a queer allegory, if you swap out him being a "vegetarian" with him being "gay" his story is about him being rejected from home and running away: - His dad wanted Lenny to be a "real" shark and he tries to change him - Lenny felt rejected from his family and didn't want to change - after his brother's accident Lenny blames himself for not being good enough and runs away from home - many gay kids run away from home and/or commit suicide when they are rejected, but instead of actually killing himself Lenny fakes his death - Lenny lives with his "found family" of friends who accept him, his life style, and the way he dresses - his dad blames Lenny's friends for "turning him into a dolphin", which is like how parents don't understand different kinds of sexuality and identity and often blame other people for their kids queerness - thankfully Lenny's story ends happily, with him finally having a conversation with his dad and being accepted for who he really is. I also love Angelina Jolie's character. She knows who she is, what she cares about, and what she deserves and she doesn't accept anything less. She never tricks anyone, she is honest and up front with Oscar about who she is and why she wants to be with him. They are both adults, and they can decide whether or not they want to be in a relationship. It doesn't matter what society thinks of her or how society treats her, as a "golddigger" we should scorn, Jolie's character stands up for herself and lives authentically. I love that for her.

This and _Osmosis Jones_ were some of my early 2000s _favorites_ to watch as a kid!! 😊 :3.

As a writer I can say that a protagonist isn’t always a good guy. A lot of stories has the hero as the protagonist but the protagonist isn’t always a hero. A protagonist is just the character the story is about and the antagonist is the person, thing, or force that is going against the protagonist. But I do agree, Oscar isn’t exactly the best at being a hero, he was kind of an egomaniac and a bit of jerk, I won’t even lie.

To this day people say that Shark Tale is one of those movies that's so bad it's actually good. And even I will admit that it's not that great but at least the voice acting was decent Will Smith and Jack Black both did excellent work voicing Oscar and Lenny!

Fun fact: This movie was originally gonna be titled “Sharkslayer” but it later got retitled as Shark Tale to make it sound less violent and more family oriented.

While not Dreamworks’ best, it still holds a spot in my heart as a guilty pleasure of sorts.

I suggest an oft-overlooked Disney classic: 1965's "That Darn Cat". It's the story of an FBI agent who has to follow a housecat who might know where some bank robbers and their hostage are hiding. Something notable about the film, in a meta way, is that it was a kind of passing of the torch for Disney. It was the last film Hailey Mills did for Disney, finishing out her late-50s/early-60s stint with the studio, and the first for Dean Jones, who would be a reliable lead for Disney for the balance of the 60s and well into the 70s.

How long did it take yall to realize the fish meant the race was rigged for Lucky Day to lose?

Whoa i hope this gets others to react to. Its not the greatest underwater animation but i still love it. Oh there are two Kung Fu Panda stars- Po and Tigress. Oh and Angelina Jolie’s fish is a lionfish. As for the scene where Oscar shouts are you entertained. That is a reference to Gladiator, highly, highly recommend watching it. It is a classic that everyone must watch at some point in their lives. You mentioned Oscar being more antihero. Well Will Smith plays a sortof anti-hero in the movie Hancock. Interesting take on superheroes.

I need to see Shark Tale myself some day, because I’m a fan of Will Smith who plays Oscar so I hope it’ll be fun for me

It’s kinda strange how they got Martin Scorsese to voice a character in this movie. But then again Dreamworks got woody Allen to voice the main character in their first movie Antz. Obviously, anything possible when you use have Steven Spielberg on your team at the time.
