“What is that?! Is that coochie?! Is THAT coochie??!” 😂😂😂 The boyfriend drunk menstrual blood, and had the pubic hair from the girl that crushed on him. That’s why his drink was darker than the others at the table. Also, bear has A LOT of fat. So he suffered big time.
Hello from Sweden! I love this film, seeing it in the cinema here in Sweden was hilarious, but it's honestly a really well researched film. The clothes and music and general aesthetic is very similar to our folk style, it's not exact but very clearly inspired by our culture. The community is actually named after a folk song, Hårgalåten, in which the devil dresses up as a fiddler and makes the young dance until they die, similarly to their dance around the May pole. Ättestupa was a custom from the viking age. When someone grew old enough to be a burden they could have an honorable death by jumping off a cliff. The Blood Eagle was also a torture method from viking age. They opened up the spine and pulled out the lungs while the person was still alive. Really, the least authentic part of this film is the nature. It wasn't filmed in Sweden, and you can tell.
@@ineverreplyback I wouldn't say it was very effective for torture. Torture is usually implemented to get someone to confess or disclose something, and I don't think you could talk with your lungs outside your back. Seems better for the purpose of sending your enemies a 'don't fuck with me' message. In this instance, though, it seems like they're doing it just to be dicks.
Another swede here. There is no real evidence that Ättestupa were actually a real thing people did. But it certainly is part of the myths in Sweden, so I agree that it's inclusion is a sign of good research.
I love the last lines of the screenplay regarding Dani. “A smile finally breaks onto Dani’s face. She has surrendered to a joy known only by the insane. She has lost herself completely and she is finally free. It is horrible and it is beautiful.”
I'm just saying this because you missed it. That love story in the beginning where you see the girl's private part, it's all connected with that scene with Christian eating the pie with pubes inside and if you look again, you notice that his drink was different from everyone else because Maya put her period blood in his drink. I don't like Christian, but people like to miss the fact that he got drugged many times before she slept with Maya, so they basically r*ped him. They did all that so that Dani would not wanna leave because she lost her family, her friends and she thinks her boyfriend cheated on her when he didn't. People keep saying she has a happy ending when she's in trapped in this cult.
Watch the directors cut. It shows Christian knew exactly what was going to happen. He literally consented to the whole mating scene. Don’t know why people think them giving him drugs someone makes it rape.
At 12:05 - I understand that you are completely disturbed by the suicide and the graphic impact. Part of the piece that you missed was when Pelle described the Harga life cycle. From birth to 18 years, the folks are kids: they call that "Spring." From 19-36, they go out and explore the world (going to college and grad school), and they call that "Summer." (The fact that our protagonists are all mid-twenty-somethings means that they are symbolically living in "Midsummer.") From 37-54, they toil, whether they farm, make the food, build the buildings, whatever it is they do; they call it "Autumn." From 54-72, they mentor the younger ones of all ages, and they call this "Winter." Dani asked Pelle, "What happens after 72?" Pelle made a gesture like slitting his throat. No one took it seriously but Josh, who did his homework, and asked, "Are they really going to...?" Pelle nodded enthusiastically. This is all context you are missing for skipping over it.
I thought it was genius how A24 was able to make people believe Christian was the villain even after the movie was over when it was always Pelle. The cult not only brainwashed Dani but they brainwashed most of the audience.
Ha! “Whoever made this film needs to be questioned!”. I take it you haven’t seen The Strange Things About The Johnsons? Once I saw that, I knew what kind of person we were dealing with! LOL.
@@Chuuzus gotdamnzo reacted to the strange things about the Johnson’s and that was the only way I could watch it without going back to therapy! I suggest watching it that way. Anyway I love your reactions and your accent makes me smile. It’s so charming! The way you said “transition” made my day!
lmaoo love your reactions! since you did this one you gotta do Hereditary! it's by the same director other good ones: Sinister, Oculus, Hush, It Follows, The Witch, The Visit, Lights Out
@@Chuuzus literally go watch anything by the director Mike Flanagan and you'll have a good time. I'm such a fan of his work. The Haunting series and Midnight Mass on Netflix are so so good 😭
3:30 What Happened? Me: Her sister Terri, basically used two gardening hoses taping them shut to car exhaust pipe. Her sister taped one of the hoses under the parents bedroom door. Whilst she placed the other in her mouth, the cars still in starting mode. The Carbon Monoxide from the cars killed them.
This is hands down one of my favorite reactions 😂 You should watch either Let the Right One In or Let Me In (one is the Swedish version and the other is the American version)!
Can you maybe react to “ORPHAN” from 2009?! I’ve wanted someone to react to it and no one has :/ I’d love to see your reaction. It stars Vera Farmiga, who I absolutely love. And the girl who plays Clove in the Hunger Games, if you’ve seen that. But yea it’s a good movie!
Yes! Would love his reaction to this, but another RU-vidr who i absolutely adore TheNewBee did Orphan. So while we wait to see a review on this channel, you might be interested in TheNewBee. That dude is so wholesome it relaxes me lol.
I believe Ari Aster had come out of a bad breakup with a gaslighter, and it’s what inspired Midsommar. It adds context to how the film came about. Also, the girlfriend that disappeared, was drowned in a deleted scene.
Oh my god chu tell me why I ran to see your reaction 😂😭😭I had the most tiring day at school since it's my final year and I'm very happy everytime you post ❤
I adore your reactions and personality! For Spanish language movies I’m casting my vote for Raw, Pans Labyrinth and La Piel Que Hábito (the skin I live in). All great, creepy and messy.
At 14:45 - The open-air funeral pyre is disturbing. For those, particularly of the Abrahamic faiths, it makes our skin crawl. But in the Scandinavian countries, it was a thing for centuries. Ari Astor, who made this movie, said that while the religion he is depicting is fictional, he culled his ideas from several Norse religions, and made an amalgam of sorts. But the open-air pyre is a funeral rite that several cultures participate in. (Not us, obviously.)
Lots of hilarious moments in this especially when watching reactions for this that includes your hilarious reaction lol. Pretty flower hat and dress lol
You are soo lovely im so happy i found your channel 🥰. Im a little tipsy, just had a great wholesome day with my best friend and this is the best end to it
I accidently came across you reacting to interview with the vampire today. i have now been watching your videos for three hours and im here, i feel so sorry for you, cause this movie done fucked me up and i have watched a shit ton of really REALLY fucked up movies. much love from ireland, iv'e decided to sub to you
That girl worried about her needing her boyfriend too often. Her leaning too much. If I was him I'd be like need me all you want. Lean all you want lol. Never too much lol. Especially if shes Florence plue lol. This movie awesome. Love how its shot and acted and written and crazy music and sound effects lol. Love the drug scenes lol. That place so pretty and the clothes and the flowers lol especially the flower hats lol
At 15:11 - The community takes the ashes of the elders from the pyre that you saw, and place them in, on, around, and near the tree. So... While the whole idea is weird to us, and apparently to Mark, he isn't comprehending that what he is doing is extremely disrespectful.
At 22:30 - How did Ari Aster make this kind of film, putting Christian inside the eviscerated bear? Apparently, it was one of the Viking punishments/sacrifices.
At 11:00 - You are annoyed with Josh for being the only black person on the trip, and that his stand-out skin color should have been a red flag. The thing is... There are so many parts that you have zoomed past that you have missed a lot of context. Pelle met Christian (the bad boyfriend), Mark (the disrespectful friend), and Josh in an anthropology class in graduate school. The scene in the car, when it was mentioned that it was a four-hour drive from the airport to Harga, Josh mentioned that he was doing his dissertation on Midsummer Festivals in European cultures. He mentioned that his interest was the complete impetus for the buddies going to Sweden in the first place. While it might have been a red flag, the fact is Josh is a black student going to Sweden. What did he THINK the optics would be?
