Today at the Mystery Shack, we continue our adventures in Dressrosa - where we learn of Law's tragic past and his friend Corazon, as well as witness the final battle of Dressrosa, where Luffy demonstrates what his training with Rayleigh has taught him. Will the climax of the Dressorsa saga live up to the highs we’ve seen so far? The devil fruit awakening ability was first mentioned in Impel Down by Crocodile. The Zoan guardians are an example of devil fruit awakening. The Admirals may have awakened their devil fruit, but they can't bring out all of their abilities due to the large number of allies and subordinates in the war (Marineford). But we can see the result of the impact of two Admirals who put their all into the fight(Punk Hazard)

I don't know if someone already commented, but Sabo only got his memory back because "sakazuki" (akainus real name) actually means "to exchange cups of sake". So when he read the newspaper, he saw "Ace, Luffy, Sakazuki" and remembered when the three of them exchanged cups of sake and became brothers

I had heard that somewhere before, thanks for the reminder. But i really dont like the amnesia thing. Amnesia-storys are insanely hard to write without falling into absolute plot convenience bullshit and Oda, as brilliant as he is, did fall into that imo.

@sowitapid that just means you've never read about amnesia before, it is possible to break through it if triggered by either a place, a person, or in this case a phrase, people can actually use phrases to make you remeber or forget things entirely be it just a few seconds or whole years(sleeper agents are real after all) I'm not trying to be rude just trying to let you know, and yeah Luffy has been in the paper multiple times already but it wasn't as brutal as Aces death, or you know "Ace, luffy, Sakazuki" as the oc pointed out, before you refer to things as plot holes and contrivances for one get a dictionary cause I don't think you know what those words mean anyways and two... just do like five minutes of research mate and you might find you have no clue what your talking about

fun fact about senor pink: Oda originally wasnt going to include his backstory, one of his editors was curious why senor pink dresses like a baby and Oda explained, after hearing the backstory the editor begged Oda to add it in, and it got added to the anime

As far as the Usopp observation haki thing goes, keep in mind that most fighters who we see use observation haki are hand to hand combatants or at most mid range fighters. For them it makes sense for their observation haki to give them a split second understanding of an opponent's moves For Usopp, who's one of the very few long range combatants in the series, it definitely makes more sense for his observation haki to give him telescopic vision, letting him see targets much further away and through obstacles like walls and buildings Remember at the beginning of Jaya when suddenly a bunch of birds start dropping dead on the deck of the Going Merry when they were just approaching the island still at sea, and then it's shown they were being sniped by Van Auger from the island literally miles away. It's probable that the has a similar form of observation haki as well.

yah also there are a bunch of different types of observation haki, Otohime's haki was feeling people's feelings and empathy, Aisa's Mantra was feeling the life-force of the people of Skypeia etc etc. So Usopp having a CoO that compliments his expertise (remember the Tower of Law in Enies Lobby) only makes sense.

Bellamy's character arc is one of my favorite in the series. The thing he is lacking is his own dream. He goes from mocking Luffy for having dreams, to hitching himself to Doffy to support someone else's dream, and finally realizes in this arc that he is fundamentally lacking something. At the end of the arc he pointedly says he will not join the Grand Fleet, because he doesn't want to repeat the mistake of blindly following someone else when he doesn't even know what he himself wants. This isn't shown in the anime, but in the manga we see him set off on his own after Dressrosa in search of his own purpose. He's come a long way since Jaya

As far as the inconsistency law indicates that he needs to be careful when using his powers because they can exhaust him quickly if he just uses them all Willy nilly. He’s trying to avoid using them till he needs them, he’s very surgical in his precision. Pun jntended

Black blades are swords permanently covered in haki and haki being black is a visual representation because non haki users don't see their hands being turnt to black. Zoro doesn't have a permanent black blade which is what he is striving to get. Mihawk black blade is also visible as black similar to shisui another black blade.

we don’t actually know that for sure. mihawk cut up buggy with his black blade but buggy didn’t die. it’s possible that unlike luffy’s immunity to blunt attacks being undone by haki, for some reason buggy is fully immune to all slashing attacks, including haki attacks, but i think it’s more likely that the black blade just means the blade is stronger, and mihawk just wasn’t using haki when attacking buggy

Sakazuki (the real name of Akainu) is also the name of the ceremony of sharing sake so Sabo saw in that article the names of Ace, Luffy, and Sakazuki together which is why he remembered everything.

FYI I think Law explained that his powers get weaker the more he uses it. I don't think a proper explanation has been given, but I think a good way to look at it is to imagine Law using his powers like a spellcaster drain their MP from most RPGs. Law had been conserving his "MP" throughout most of the arc so he could go all out on Doffy

Doflamingo wears his glasses because he has his father’s eyes; there was a scene in the manga or in the anime where you saw one of his eyes, bro. The scene was when Doflamingo was sleeping and having a nightmare of his childhood (when they where hang on there house and people throwing bow and arrows on them); Doflamingo woke up and you can see one of his eyes. He wear his glasses because he does not want to look at the mirror and see his father’s eyes on him👍

I think one thing to remember about Law's role in this arc is that he explains how his Devil Fruit drains his vitality. So I can see why he would maybe tactically restrict his ability usage in Lieu of saving it for the final battle with Luffy.

Another interesting thing about Law, this flashback explains why Law saved the kids in Punk Hazard and how he did so simply Cause 1, Cora had saved him, and thus he saved them And 2, cause he had already ample experience curing deadly poisons, on himself To me this act of Law is not so much to humanize him, but a glimpse of this, his past and resolution, as well as his connection to cora

The StrawHat Grand fleet gets a cover story , detailing what each captain ( and Bellamy ) did after the arc , which of course are never shown in the anime . Here's what we were shown : 1. Cavendish : he continues to sail and be chased by fans , reminiscing about his life as the prince of the Bourgeois Kingdom , and how it reached it's since the girls of the kingdom refused to marry any other man than him 2. Bartolomeo and his crew dock on an island and try to sell Straw Hat merch and when the citizens refuse they burn the city down . We see that the city was flying Shanks flag ( which Bartolomeo burned ) 3. Sai's part of the cover story shows him dealing with preparations for his wedding to Baby 5 and dealing with the woman he was going to marry before 4. Ideo : The XXX Gym Martial Arts Alliance interrupts a fight between the Longleg and Longarm tribes which was a part of a thousand-year quarrel between the tribes. Afterwards at a deserted island, they use the undamaged ship parts to customize their new ship. After their new ship is completed, the XXX Gym Martial Arts Alliance leaves the Longarm and Longleg crews behind. The group later decides to become a pirate crew and calls themselves the Ideo Pirates 5. Leo's part shows him and the Tontatta corps under him becoming pirates , helping with the reconstrunction of Dressrossa , getting a ship , and being assigned as body guards for the riku royal family during the Reverie 6. Hajrudin part of cover story is the most brief : it introduces his crew and reveals that they worked for Buggy and were his S rabk agents until they left him for Luffy 7. Orlumbus retuns to his kingdom to announce that he became a pirate to his king and that he will take the entire fleet with him , which the king has some problems with , but Orlumbus ultimately escapes 8. Bellamy is also included in this cover story . He decides to retire from piracy and becomes a dried , the last time we see being while he works on a Jolly Roger

Here's the gist of Black Blades : sometimes extremely powerfull and skilled swordsmen can permanently turn the blades of their weapoms black making them stronger . We don't know how the process works but we have 2 examples of permanent black blades : Mihawk's Yoru and Ryuma's Shusui .

I think that Doflamingo & Corazon is also a take on the nurture vs nature arguments: because once you learn about Dofla's backstory, you are tempted to justified him by blaming all the things that happened to him for becoming the monster he is, yet Oda just presents you with the counter-argument in Corazon which went through the same stuff as his brother. Of course it's not that simple, since Dofla was further "corrupted" by his "family", why Cora was raised by Sengoku, but I think that no matter what those things wouldn't have changed their fundamental natures.

I think the main reason behind Sengoku's change in character is how the WG was willing to hide information about the Impel Down breakout, whcih clearly shook him. It's posisble he jsut no longer cares about the WG after that betrayal and, like Garp, is taking it easy in his retirement rather than worry about all this messy politics bullshit.

Water Law is an omage to Waterloo(Yes battle of WaterLoo, Napoleon) remeber Spanish Armada lost against a British Privateer, not in that specific battle but that was just begining of fall of Napoleon, just like this is of Kaido. And Dressrosa being thematically Spanish. See the connections.

when it comes to the haki glows and flares the anime really starts to embellish them from around this point onwards. By the time you get to wano (which I know youre caught up) many of the haki auras you see aren't even present in the manga. So unless a character literally comments on how impressive or how advanced someones haki is, its usually just visual flare.

keep in mind th warlords are 1) supposed to be part of the World GOvrnment's attempts to keep the Four Emperors in check and 2) a way to have control over some notable pirates and show "hey, we can control these pirates so you can trust in us", so abolishing them would show that the WG have lsot a lot of control over everything and need new strategies, and it would also be them publicly admitting their loss of control. Plus of the ones you listed, the WG don't know Hancock is on Luffy's side, we have no idea what's actually happened with Kuma and that still leaves Mihawk (the strongest swordsman in the world) and one or two others on their side still, so abolishing it ain't a small thing.

the blue beach car could take a suprising turn in the future :D red/black haki is conqueres haki (Haoshoku Haki) which grants the user the ability to unleash their own willpower to overpower the will of others. purple/black is armament haki (Busoshoku Haki) wich also can be used for weapons like swords or protect the body or use it agressive to hurt logia users. blue/white is observation haki (Kenbunshoku Haki) wich is future sight.

Idk about what Water might signify but Law’s name is play on the Battles Trafalgar and Waterloo. Both Major battles that Napoleon Bonaparte lost. Also, I love how Fujitora saying that he wanted to see Luffy's face and smile, while also smiling, is foreshadowing something major.

Awakening has first mentioned in Impel Down about the demonic guards (which are zoans) and crocodile say that is why they will keep coming back. There is very few confirmed awakened users, but the community believe that Maggelan also has awakened his poison poison fruit and his final "form" is basically that as everything it touches becomes immediatelly infected by the poison. For the admirals, again the community believe that Punk Hazard has the result of awakened logia. Also take in consideration that the different types of fruit do have different awakening and paramecia is the one that affects other things to be the thing while zoans is a further phisical reinforcement with a changed apparence (as for the Impel Down guards). As a theory, there is a lot of talk about the guards awakening not being natural and that explain their low "intelligence" as it has forced on them, and if true that would be similar to what Chopper does with his rumble ball and that Monster Point is probably his own awakening that he is forcing out with drugs

Spoiler regarding Law's devil fruit ability (shambles) The reason as to why shambles may seem inconsistent is because he can only move people depending on how much Haki they are infusing (later explained in roof piece) 1: Doffy was using haki during his fight at the bridge (therefore no shambles) 2: Doffy was comfortably sitting on a chair (in other words shambles is good to go) As to why Doffy didn't infuse Haki while sitting down: 1: people in OP don't usually waste their Haki by using it at all times 2: He doesn't have A.O.H. (therefore no way of knowing when Law will use his technique)

It’s just that the man is built like a tank, like top 1 in the verse in endurance he isn’t called “The Strongest Creature Alive” just because. I gotta say, what really got me about Dressrosa was the reaction of everyone everywhere when all the toys turned back to normal. The relief, joy, fear, confusion, chaos, and the sheer, sheer anger were so overwhelming on such a large scale that it moved me to tears. I never used to consider myself emotionally weak, but anime has broken me, and One Piece is a leading reason for that trend. In no other case ever have I cried for the magnitude of events happening to countless people I know very little about. Only Dressrosa has ever done that to me.

My theory for stealing devil fruits is that it uses the same method that Vegapunk uses to feed fruits to inanimate objects. That is, it forces the power to "reincarnate" into a particular object (a fruit, weapon, etc). Alternatively, I think the Blackbeard Pirates might actually directly c4nnibalize power holders' hearts or something if they want the power for themselves.

Omgggg! Your devil fruit theory makes so much sense! Its probably best theory I've heard about the devil fruits lol. Although for some reason, ppl believe that the Davy Back Fight will return as a final competition between Luffy and Shanks when they meet. What are your thoughts on it 👀?

Yeah, I like the Shanks vs Luffy Davy Back Fight theory too tbh. 😅 Obviously, I'd prefer my version to be true because hey - it'd be fun, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do ultimately have a contest to see who's the strongest instead of actually throwing down. Spoilers for the manga: That said, now that I'm caught up, there's a very small part of my brain that's beginning to think that Shanks may be a lot more sus than we know, so maybe a proper Luffy vs Shanks might also be possible. If Joy Boy turns out to be the 'key' to the One Piece, him chilling with the 5 elders certainly seems a tad concerning.🤔 Much much more on that in the Wano videos though 😂

@@Koroto Yeah. Back in the day I thought he was talking about Blackbeard. But with Luffy being Joyboy, it sounds more likely he was talking about him. However, how would he be threatened? Does he NOT want the One Piece to be found 🧐? I mean, the dude could have looked for it DECADES ago, and yet didn't. And its only now, when Luffy is getting close to it, that he suddenly wants it? Maybe he doesn't want the treasure, he just wants to make sure NO ONE gets it 😧.

I think you haven't realised yet law is not a 1 on 1 fighter he is a team fighter thats why he needs a strong alliance like luffy the guy is in class of his own when in a team

im 7 months late so not sure if youll see this or if someone else commented it but the black coating we see with haki is something you can sense with observation, its not visible you can just tell its there, pre timeskip there have been people that used haki and we didnt know they did because we couldnt see the colour. about black blades we dont know yet, common theory now is that when you have master haki control with a sword or something you eventually turn it into a black blade with your will. atleast thats my understanding of both

the haki swirls with the Devil Fruit in the back on Gear 4 transformation is anime flair, it's not in the manga... If it's a sign for incompleteness... who knows? 🤷 about Burgess stealing devil fruits, if you look at his back, he's carrying a sack over his shoulders with devil fruit patterns on it, so the theory is that they are carrying fruits in there to 'steal' them by killing the users and letting them reincarnate in the sack with fruits.

Fujitora is based on Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, a famous gambling ronin, not a prophet. Doflamingo's awakening lets him turn surrounding objects into string. The black tips are simply due to armament Haki.

This idea comes from youtuber @Infinite_Thoughts. He stated the Devil fruits are concepts. Which makes sense to me. Doffy has the concept of strings. He manipulates strings based on concepts that can relate to strings. Cutting wire, controlling puppets,sewing wounds, are all part of how strings are used. Luffy is slowly mastering the concept of rubber. Rubber is not just stretchy, it bounces off damage. It can be used for pumping liquid. Luffy has managed to bring these out from instinct, even burning rubber. Awakening may be reaching an enlightenment of what the meaning of the fruit means, then extending that ability to the world.

Crocodile *might* have an awakened fruit, he can affect things that *don't* have moisture like metals and natural stones, meaning that he is actually turning those into sand. But that's just speculation, we still don't know what constitutes an awakened fruit. If being able to permanently affect the weather of an entire island isn't considered an awakening, then how powerful can an awakened logia be? Would they be able to completely terraform a planet? Perharps work with an awakened Quake fruit user to move continents and create islands? Have these islands each have their own weather and seasonal cycles? Oh, oooooh....

About Dofi being the first awakened fruit we see. That's not entirely correct. The first time we see something related to an awakened fruit is un d Drum island. Remember Drum having it's temperature raised and being sunny as hell? That was a consequence of Ace passing by. And Alabasta had a massive drought and it's sandstorms intensified as a consequence of Crocodile awakanening. The thing is, in the paradise we had already seen a lot of the powers we would later learn (hello mantra) but it's not explicity showed and told about it. In Marineford we probably saw some forms of awakening aswell but they were discrete so that Oda could give the grand reveal of the awakening this arc

IDK, Law used shambles a bunch during his fight with Doffy on the bridge. I don't disagree; his power is OP. But I don't think it's had to justify most of the stuff. Back in Punk Hazard, Smoker says to Tashigi "don't fight him, your haki isn't strong enough!" and I took that to mean he can't Shambles you if "your haki is strong enough". Albeit vague, I think that could explain things. On the bridge he couldn't shambles Doffy because he was absolutely focused on him. On the roof, he was able to because he managed to catch Doffy arrogant and unawares without his Haki "up". I'll also say that I like this portrayal thematically; Doffy being a master of his devil fruit to the point the abilities he demonstrates are outlandish, is a great contrast against Law demonstrating he *isn't* able to use his fruit to the full extent of its abilities (I would definitely say, other than maybe Eneru, Doffy has the best command of his devil fruit we've seen in the series, and it's terrifying). Tbf, I'm still not completely happy with that explanation and others, and overall I agree Oda just has to nerf him because the Ope Ope no Mi is bull. I guess it just didn't bother me quite as much. Agree to disagree : )

We don’t know exactly what a black blade really entails yet, but the theory is that they’ve been infused with so much haki over the course of their “lives” that they permanently take on the characteristic and visibly turn black in-universe. The only real examples of one we know of is Mihawk’s Yoru and when Zoro had Shusui. 22:45 We have seen the effects of other fruits’ awakenings. Punk Hazard was half frozen and half on fire because of Aokiji and Akainu fighting for the position of fleet admiral. They literally turned the entire island into a split wasteland of ice and volcanic fire with their powers. As others have mentioned, the demon guards at Impel Down are also awakened zoan users.

You know by now 100% but still Blue haki - is armament, clashing with each other or just focused with great amount in one point Black-Red haki - is conquerors, by unleashing it or using it on yourself And (Spoilers for chapter 1010 or episode 1030) Golden haki - is a most powerful (so far) attaking form of a conqerors haki

not popular opinion but im going to say it anyway, i feel like this arc would be satisfiying if law finisehd Doffy, and luffy help with heavy hits instead, cause it is law's arc. but i can see why luffy did the finishing blow because its like robin all over, how he saves them from their darkness and freeing them. also his shown of power really was inconsistent, we saw how his powers work and if given a chance he could have used some of them to actually not lead to this much injuries or even win. Law's back story was so sad, and so much depth to it. most thing i want learn is what does Water mean in his name as he said that is his real name.
