Hey guys, this is definitely a Christmas movie in my household. As a catholic, I've analyzed this movie a lot. As you already know Aslan represents Jesus Christ. The white witch represents Satan. The Pevensies represent humanity because they are descendents of the first humans Adam and Eve. We see elements of forgiveness and reconciliation through Edmond when aslan forgives him and pardons him. I know people dislike Edmond, but to me he goes through the most character growth.

Edmund is a 10 year old boy in 1940 during world war 2 when there was sugar rationing and had been sent away to some stranger's house with his siblings who (particularly the elder 2) were being real jerks and had no idea that the seemingly kind lady offering the turkish delight was the literal embodiment of evil who would kill his family and himself once she no longer had any use for them.

The movie is based on a book written by C.S. Lewis, who is a famous Christian writer. The entire Narnia series is very allegorical, and covers similar themes like sin, forgiveness, and love. Aslan the lion is very explicitly written to be a representation of Jesus (who was sometimes compared to a lion in the Bible). Especially where he dies in exchange for Edmund, and eventually coming back to life.

The most obvious is in the final book. Where everyone ends up dead, most end up in their version of heaven and even see their parents in heaven because there dead now too. Also in the sixth book the silver chair when Caspian dies at the end he goes into Aslans lands.

Nick, his name is Tumnus. It is derived from the word Autumnus, which is where the word Autumn comes from. It means “the changing of seasons” and is a reference to his changing attitude, as he begins as a servant of the White Witch, only to change and embrace Aslan.

Often, whenever I watch this film and see the character of Aslan, he reminds me so much of Mufasa from The Lion King. Very true and they both have magnificent manes. Alex from Madagascar must be jealous of their hair routine. They are both also voiced by actors whose voices are just perfection for their roles. What the film doesn't make clear is that the Turkish Delight was enchanted, placing Edmund under a spell. This version of Edmund is also more sympathetic due to their father fighting in the war being more than a throwaway line, plus Peter bullying him a bit. The queen's outfit slowly "melts" as Spring comes through.

It's not explained very well in the movie, but the Turkish Delight was enchanted (in other words, magically drugged and addictive). This is why Edmund kept selling out his siblings and doing everything for Turkish Delight because it was like a drug that he *needed.*

In the book series, there's a story that comes before this one, called the Magician's Nephew. It explains everything, from how the White Witch came to rule, the lamppost, even where the wardrobe comes from. Also the man they're staying with is responsible for all of it. Summary under this comment!
@videohistory722
@videohistory722 6 месяцев назад
The professors first name is Diggory, and his uncle made rings from the dust in the Wood between the worlds. One of the other worlds is Charn, where the White Witch is from, and upon going there, they find a bunch of statues of kings and queens sitting on their thrones, a tiny bell and a riddle that tells them they can either ring the bell and bide the danger, or drive themselves mad wondering what would've happened if they did. Diggory rings the bell, this makes the WW wake up, find out she's the one that killed everything in Charn, and try to ditch her in the pond realm, upon discovering being there makes her weak, only for her to grab them last second and come into the real world. She steals a cabbie, grabs a piece of a lamppost right as they manage to grab her and bring her back to the realm again, and try to bring her back to Charn, only to discover they've unintentionally brought her to Narnia. Now here's where you'll get a laugh: when Aslan was saying he was there when the Deep Magic was written, he was being modest. He CREATED Narnia and everything in it with his lion's song, along with giving the animals the gift of speech. The ground at this point is so fertile it'll grow anything, and upon throwing the metal on the ground, it grows into a new lamppost. Aslan sends Digory on a quest to atone for bringing the WW to Narina, by finding a silver apple and bringing it back. Digory gets there, there's a warning to not touch it (you see where this is going, right?), and the WW catches up to him, after eating an apple to make her immortal. Digory somehow resists and brings it back, plants the tree, and he's rewarded with permission to bring one back for his dying mother to heal her, and us sent back home. His mother heals, he plants the core along with the rings and it turns into a tree, and after he finally becomes the professor, a storm blows the tree down, so he has it made into THE wardrobe.

Always a magical delight to watch a Narnia movie reaction, regardless whether the first time or a rewatch and discovering new details. Thanks for taking us along on the adventure. 🏆🦁👍 Professor Kirke's discussion with Peter and Susan is one my favorite scenes (in addition to the entire movie). After the Prince Caspian movie as a memento, requested an autographed photo with a return envelope. Some time passed and received an envelope oddly addressed in my own handwriting. Was an autographed picture and a wonderful gift, a brief note apologizing for the delay due to University studies. Anna Popplewell is such a gracious and good person. Always captivated by her subtle expressions, especially the eyes, regardless of role and talented actress. The note will always be a piece of Narnian magic.

I remember watching this on TV when I was younger and liking it!! I don't remember every moment or the order of all the events, but I definitely remember the kids going into Narnia, them meeting the goat guy, the camp scene, Aslan's death and resurrection, and the final battle. Aslan is probably my favorite purely because lions are one of my favorite animals and I love Liam Neeson's performance; I actually didn't know that it was Neeson until recently! The CGI is also really nice for the early to mid-2000s. I don't know if I'd say it's Avatar-level good, but it's for sure better than a good chunk of CGI these days!

Thank you for sharing your reaction with us. I actually am not usually super fond of rewatches, but I loved watching this. You pointed out a few things that I haven't realised before, like how Edmund was used to being pushed around so he didn't realise the dangers he put himself and his siblings in. I have read and appreciate all the books, but I actually love how Andrew Adamson (the director) made Lucy even more childlike and innocent than she is in the book. In the book she seems more like an adult's imagination of a child, but in the movie, scenes such as her saying "I told you he was real" or her realising what the fire-flower juice can do (towards the end) just makes her seem more realistic.

So Nick, a few things: Jesus Christ was born on Christmas (the word Christmas is a corruption of Cristus Massus which means Christ’s Mass, Mass being a word for a church service) and Aslan is definitely supposed to be Jesus as was said by C.S. Lewis, the author of the original book. Jesus, according to the Christian faith, died to save sinners from their sin (sins basically being bad things in opposition to God’s will, betrayal, murder, so on). Jesus returned to life after his death, in accordance with ancient prophecy. During his lifetime, Jesus used his powers (as the son of God) to heal people. This was often described as him having “The Breath of Life” hence Aslan’s breath restores the people from being turned to stone with his breath. Jesus is also often called “The Lion of Judah” Judah being his people in general. The author, C.S. Lewis, was also great friends with J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien’s works are filled with Christian messages, while Lewis’ tend to be extremely direct Christian allegories.

Georgie Henley didn't feel like crying during the Aslan's death scene and post-death, as she didn't feel anything for a lion that doesn't exist, so Anna Poppleton, director Andrew Adamson and many of the crew cried in front of her, they even showed her Mufasa's post-death scene to make her cry and finally she cried in front of the camera. She wasn't too happy about it afterwards. With the scene where Lucy is Tumnus as a stone statue, she had a much easier time crying as she couldn't imagine her friend James McAvoy being turned to stone.

The Fox is voiced by Rubert Everett, who voices Prince Charming in Shrek 2 and The Third. While recording for Shrek 2, he found out about Narnia and asked director Andrew Adamson (who was one of the directors for Shrek 1 and 2) if there were any characters he could voice for the movie and the only character available was The Fox, so he got that part. Because of directing The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Andrew Adamson wasn't available for the audio commentary for Shrek 2 and due to the next movie, Prince Caspian he couldn't direct Shrek the Third, so he was only the producer for that movie.

They didn't actually film ay takes of Peter smiling while talking to Aslan, the take was actually from a blooper where a flying was around William Moseley and he smiled out of how funny it was, ruining that take. The whole bit where Aslan said that Mr. Beaver heard Peter saying he was planning to turn him into a hat wasn't scripted, but to make the lion more relaxed and to add a bit of humor in the otherwise heavy scene to loosen up a bit, Andrew Adamson added the line and the blooper take of Moseley smiling.

I have always loved this film when it first came out. The scores are gorgeous and magical, The special effects are amazing , the performances and the costumes are spectacular. Liam Neason as Aslan was a PERFECT choice! i can hear his voice coming out Jesus, its soft and Powerful at the same time. William Mosley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley will ALWAYS and FOREVER be the Pevensie in my head. No one Else will EVER Replace them from me! Even if i hear the voices of Freddie Finley, Katherine Suchet, Mathew White and Elizabeth Eaten from the Focus on the Family Radio Theater versions, I'll ALWAYS think of the Walden Pevensie Children. Same goes for everyone else in the first film (Except i like to mix Tilda Swinton's version with how her character was originally described in the book) and I'll always named the Witch's Dwarf, Ginnabrick, since that's what the filmmakers named him because he was never referred by name in the book.

Originally, Genral Otmin (The Minotaur general) had few lines but Andrew Adamson asked for the technicians to make him say lines as Otmin's mouth where controlled by radio controllers. Adamson requested for more and more lines which caused a headache for the technicians as they weren't planned and doing radio controlling at the last minute isn't an easy task. General Otmin was played by Shane Rangi, who was a stunt performer in The Lord of the Rings, playing many orc and Uruk-hai and he was one of Harad Leaders in The Return of the King (one of the guys who steered the Mûmak/Oliphaunt). They used wolf-dog hybrids for a lot of the wolf scenes, though they were rather too happy so in the scene where the wolves appears in The Witch Witch's throne room, one or two grim-looking CG wolves were added to make it more menacing (if you look at the other wolves, they don't look that aggressive). When they are outside of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver's dam, the tails were digitally replaced as in the original shot, the wolf-dogs were wagging their tails like they were happy which obvious doesn't suit the scene. No real reindeer were used in the movie because of there are bans of bringing in reindeer in New Zealand as they're potential carriers of a deadly disease for sheep (there're a lot of sheep farmers in New Zealand and bringing such disease could ruin their income), so when hey move, the reindeer are CG while when they stand still, they're animatronics.

Happy to see you two rewatching a great Christmas/Easter Disney classic. ==== "Although Lewis did not consider them allegorical, and did not set out to incorporate Christian themes in Wardrobe, he was not hesitant to point them out after the fact. In one of his last letters, written in March 1961, Lewis writes: Since Narnia is a world of Talking Beasts, I thought He [Christ] would become a Talking Beast there, as He became a man here. I pictured Him becoming a lion there because (a) the lion is supposed to be the king of beasts; (b) Christ is called "The Lion of Judah" in the Bible; (c) I'd been having strange dreams about lions when I began writing the work. The whole series works out like this. The Magician's Nephew tells the Creation and how evil entered Narnia. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Prince Caspian restoration of the true religion after corruption. The Horse and His Boy the calling and conversion of a heathen. The Voyage of the "Dawn Treader" the spiritual life (specially in Reepicheep). The Silver Chair the continuing war with the powers of darkness. The Last Battle the coming of the Antichrist (the Ape), the end of the world and the Last Judgement." - Paul Ford, Companion to Narnia: Revised Edition (2005)

Fauns can be evil, but I think it is characteristic for Tumnus since he as threatened by the White Witch and Im sure faced death if he didnt listen, so he did as she wanted and manipulated in order to do so, but thats also why he felt so horrible and eventually turned to try and help Lucy escape. So he is a good faun, just one like many in Narnia feeling the wrath of the White Witch.

Even though C.S. Lewis wrote The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe first, it's not the first story in the series but the second. If you look closely in the Wardrobe, you can see in the carving a lot of references to The Magician's Nephew (the first story in the series) such as Aslan and Jadis the White Witch and her sister. The Magician's Nephew goes like this: Digory Kirke's (who is the professor in the movie, played by Jim Broadbent, who also played Margret Thatcher's husband in The Iron Lady and Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and The Half-blood Prince and Deadly Hallows Part 2) mother is sick (which refers to Lewis own life as his mom had cancer and unfortunatley died, which made him question God and became an atheist for some years, it's implied that Digory's mother had cancer). One day when he and his friend Polly snuck around in his Uncle's attic, they came across him working on some magic rings and the all three used them to travel to other worlds including one that was destroyed and there they encountered Jadis the White Witch. When they went back to London, she got dragged into our world and as she was wrecked havoc in Victorian London and even fought the police force using her whip, she even ripped off one of the lamp posts and used it as a weapon against them. Digory, Polly and the uncle used one of the rings and dragged with them Jadis to an empty world and they witnessed how Narnia came to be with Aslan waking everything up with his roars. A couple of humans that accidently were dragged with them became the first humans in Narnia and Aslan asks Digory to get an apple from a garden which Jadis had now claimed his own, for growing apple trees would protect the world of Narnia from The White Witch. Digory manages to complete the task and after planting the tree, Aslan gifts him with the apples from that tree which he takes with him back to London (while Polly does come along with him, the uncle is stuck there, he had become insane due to his using of his magical rings) and give it to his mother, who recovers from the illness. After this Digory planted the applecore along with his uncle's magic rings, which grew into a magnificent tree. One night when Digory was a man, the tree got struck by lightning and he made a wardrobe out of what was left of the dead tree and that became the very same wardrobe which transported The Pevensie children to Narnia. On a side note: a fragment of the lamp post that The White Witch broke off, got sucked with her and it landed in Narnia and it grew into the very same lamp post that Lucy sees in the woods.

The books make sense when you read them in publication order. Chronological order introduces you to characters & events before it even makes sense to. The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe is actually the first book in the series: 1. TL,tW&tW 2. Prince Caspian 3. Voyage of the Dawn Treader 4. Silver Chair 5. The Horse & His Boy 6. The Magician's Nephew 7. The Last Battle That's the correct, publication order. Read them in that order & things will make sense

Nick, this is not really a Disney film, it’s a Walden media film. Disney co-financed and released the movie, but they had only moderate narrative input in the plot. The film is based on a book, which is the first book in a series (though technically it’s the second book chronologically).

Most of the movie was shot in chronical order, which is unusual for a movie because of the logistics of it, you usually start in the middle or near the begining, but since kids do grow-up and age during a long time (a live action movie can take one to three years to produce depending how complex it is, a simple comedy, romantic comedy or drama typically takes a year with a three months shooting and very little digital effects, most epic action, sci-fi and fantasy movies such as Star Wars, with the exception of the sequel trilogy, takes three years with several months of shooting) and it would be a strange continuity for the kids as they are different stages of aging at different parts of the movie (with the only logical exception with the ending scenes when they transform back to their younger selves), so it was a good choice.

13:35 if you watch the fire its the end of the movie in reverse- white stag, coronation party, and then the Aslan moment could be a warning or when he was at the battle. 16:45 Lucy had the strongest faith in Narnia and Aslan, its shown real well in the sequel. Even in the books she has it the strongest. The weakest would be Susan, however as Lewis never got to finish her tale, Susan hopefully had her faith strengthened. 29:54 Both the drink and turkish delight were cursed-temptation. Think of it like a processed sweet, you know it's bad, but it tastes so good you still want to eat it. Turkish delight can be good it just depends on the flavor, imo. The rose can be a bit much for some people. 56:18 air force is historically wise a new form of battle, most of history battles were on land or sea. In Narnia, thanks to the Pevenses having been through an air strike and seeing there are flying creatures in Narnia kinda combined the two. In Prince Caspian they once again used the griffins as air support. This film and the book series are amongst my favorites when it comes to fantasy. I love the world of Narnia and learning about Lewis and Tolkien's friendship and how each inspired each others worlds. Like how the professor in this is supposed to represent Tolkien and in LOTR Lewis is represented as Treebeard.

Lucy was able to see it because she had the faith of a child, which is a biblical concept. It doesn't come over in the movie, but I have seen in reactors comment sections that the food has a spell on it.

I recently found out something about the author of the Narnia book that he was friends with Tolkien creator of Lord of the Rings and they both put in to their work God. There’s footage that i saw of two actors reenacting the two of them having a conversation where Tolkien asks CS Lewis if it is right for them to create these fantasy stories of fiction and Lewis answers back “we create because we are created” to see the video here it is. I love watching it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NzBT39gx-TE.htmlsi=PkOgIFgeW38rE9-D
