Yeah, when you think of it it’s wild they got rid of such a big detail. Considering how they kept stuff in that is due to Peeta’s leg, like slipping on the ice and struggling with running away from the fog because his prosthetic leg kept getting caught in vines and stuff

@@clover2739 yeah, and it also takes a huge emotional toll on Katniss cause she thinks its her fault he lost it, and when she thinks he died she blames herself

I think they took it out because it would have been difficult (and probably costly too I think) to do the effects on his leg each time. Plus I think I saw somewhere that the injury wasn't really brought up that much in the subsequent books. I've never read the series though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can understand how the added context of it would have helped the movie though, but like you said it is what it is

@@chronosclaimsall I don’t think it would be that difficult or costly tbh, maybe because I’m looking at Forrest Gump which is a lot older. Plus they didnt need to show it every time either since he often wore long pants, they could’ve just shown it at the end of the first movie and at some point again in the second one at least. I think it would’ve been important to show a lasting physical impact the games have had on them, and having the main boy character have a disability would’ve been so important in my opinion. It isn’t mentioned a lot, it’s mentioned like 4/5 times I’d say? But that’s because it’s all from Katniss perspective and I love her, but especially in the books you can tell she’s a bit selfish? I guess so tends to not think about it, or she completely forgets about it. Because obviously it doesn’t really effect her much, but it does with peeta. However when Katniss first finds out about Peeta’s leg she is devastated because she blames herself for it, peeta doesn’t tell her and she just sees that he used a cane and then she finds out in an interview and she just breaks down and is that upset she hides her face into peeta and doesn’t speak for ages. Katniss does forget about it but then when they first meet again on camera in the winter in catching fire and Katniss jumps into Peeta’s arms and he falls because he isn’t used to his leg. And she noticed a couple of times that he seems uncomfortable and has to use his hands to shift his leg when sitting down. Then there’s the most important one with the fog in the quarter quell and Peeta struggles to run and keep up because his prosthetic keeps getting caught on vines because it’s heavy and hasn’t had long enough ti get used to it, which means he struggles in that environment which is why Katniss has to grab him to help. That would’ve been a lot better, because too many people who watch the movies call peeta weak because he’s struggling all the time with no real reason and I think showing he has a disability, even if it seems small would he so important for representation tbh

She is my favorite character. A hundred Johannas would have taken down the capitol long ago!

It makes me curious cause district 4 is a career district which Finnick and Mags are in, but district 4 seems to be one of the most angry ones during the victory tour with showing the rebellion. I’m guessing that despite being a career district they get treated pretty badly

@@clover2739 District 4 is very much the outlier of the career districts. 1 and 2 are capitol friendly and in return are treated better, whereas 4 aren’t capitol friendly but are viewed as careers, most likely because of their skill from their trade, and are therefore awarded certain liberties to train. Finnick won at 14, but was never stated whether he was a volunteer, but he was the most skilled Victor by far. He wanted for nothing in the arena and was awarded a trident as a sponsor which is the most expensive gift Katniss has ever seen be given as a sponsor gift. I think it’s safe to assume that district 4s volunteer system, and their overall training doesn’t work the same as 1 and 2 but are always grouped with 1 and 2.

@@davidfairweather3301 we don’t know if finnick volunteered but I assumed he did, considering how Katniss straight up called him specifically a career and she watched his games beforehand. So i feel like if he didn’t volunteer and was from a career district Katniss would say so. Plus I do get that district 4 is probably different from 1 and 2, people assume that they could be careers because mags helped train them. Although since we haven’t found out any of these things outright and was only told it’s a career district then it’s hard to say how different it is since there’s not much information

@@clover2739 Yes the lack of information makes a lot of it speculative. If you’ve read the prequel it’s gives a better indication of district 4s standing with the Capitol and how they perform in the games. Most are highly skilled with a trident which make them heavy competitors along with 1, 2 and 11, but only 1 and 2 are considered “Capitol friendly” - so it leaves us to assume that district 4 are only considered careers based on skill. I think the theorising would be with regards to whether Finnick volunteered or not. Volunteering at 14 is pretty ballsy even for a cocky kid, especially knowing you could wait 2 or even 3 years and almost certainly guarantee a victory if you’re incredibly skilled at 14. It’s definitely an interesting thing to think about.
