WATCHING *THE HUNGER GAMES CATCHING FIRE* FOR THE FIRST TIME | THE SEQUEL I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED!! 

As many times I’ve seen this series, I just can’t turn down watching someone’s reaction to it! Glad you are enjoying the Hunger Games series!

Mags won the 11th Hunger Games when she was 16 years old. She was the first Victor from District 4 .

Effie (the one with the wild clothes) isn’t from district 1, she’s from the capitol! Which is where the games are held and they are the people with the crazy outfits and they don’t need to worry about being in the games, ever. However all of the districts, even district 1’s children are all entered into the games. Even though districts like 1,2 and 4 (which they don’t mention in the movies) get special treatment where their kids are trained beforehand, they are all still messed up from the capitol. The career tributes like Cato from the last one are very messed up, but the thing is they are taught to be that way. To them they are told since they were young that winning these games are something they should want and enjoy, and be proud of since it will give pride for their district, they are still also kids. Cato’s speech at the end of the first hunger games before he died is him realising the truth which is sad in its own way.

“You know, you can live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him”. I love how much Haymitch saw how good and pure Peeta is.

What’s important to understand in the Hunger Games series is the significance of intended and perceived resistance. President Snow doesn’t care about who wins the Games per say; Like he said, a small amount of hope is necessary in order to keep the people in line. So district 12 winning isn’t the reason he’s mad: It’s how Katniss did it. Instead of killing everyone else like a tribute is supposed to do, she defied the rules set by Capitol by threatening suicide with Peeta. And Seneca made the matters worse by giving in to her in the moment of panic of losing two victors (hence his execution). It was an embarrassment to the Capitol, and a sign that resistance is possible. That’s why they told Katniss to pretend that she only did it out of desperate love for Peeta; So that she seems like an innocent girl who’s of no threat to the Capitol. The Capitol needs the victors to sing the song of their praise to the people, but Katniss and Peeta failed to do that. Simply by showing sympathy for the dead victors’ families (Peeta giving them money, and Katniss giving an authentic sad and beautiful speech for Rue) they stepped out of line. The finger thing they do is indeed a salute, but now it’s even more than that. When Katniss volunteered, Effie told the people to clap at her, but instead they did the salute. Clapping would have meant playing along with Capitol’s evil games; cheering at her like a star in a tv-show. But the people of district 12 understood why Katniss volunteered; it wasn’t to become a star, it was a sacrifice to save her sister. So they chose to show her respect in a different way than they were instructed to. Resistance. Later when Rue died, Katniss gave her a beautiful, respectful funeral, then turned to the camera and did the salute. Resistance. When Katniss stopped reading the cards at district 12 and spoke from the heart how she really felt about Rue, the people responded with the same salute. Resistance. The salute wasn’t initially “forbidden” to do, but it became a symbol of rebellion.

Also another thing that’s missed from the books is that peeta actually loses a leg at the end of the first hunger games, so he has to use a prosthetic that he isn’t that used to yet by this point. Which makes being in these games even harder when it comes to running away which adds another layer of why he struggles even more. Katniss also loses hearing in one of her ears after she blew up the food in the first games but they managed to give her something to fix that

8:23 It’s what Capitol citizens expect, but Katniss and Peeta are spared because they won as a couple. Victors are the property of the Capitol, and if a Capitol citizen ever pays for alone time with a Victor, the Victor has to comply or their loved ones are killed. Finnick complied as soon as he was old enough (his comments about dealing in secrets, not money or jewels), but Johanna refused. J: “They can’t hurt me. There’s no one left I love.”

Mags volunteer’s for finnicks love annie knowing she couldn’t handle being in another game, then died so finnick could help save peeta knowing shes older/more vulnerable and something bigger is at play

effie is actually from the capitol, she works for them

14 is the youngest ever to win? Meaning no 12 or 13 year old has EVER won. Dude. I already thought it was unfair to put kids that young against the oldest possible but that just reinforces it, poor kiddos dont stand a chance.

How do so many people miss the Peta with his art skills left the drawing of Rue on the floor for Cadnice to see?

an interesting note- finnic is from district three, known for fishing. this was supposed to be his victory, with all the water in the arena, and you’ll see that katniss is totally confused when he starts mouth to mouth and cpr on peeta. it makes sense that he would know how to do that and katniss wouldn’t even know what it was, because within the boundaries she’s supposed to stick to in district 12, there’s no streams or lakes. the only reason she knows how to swim is because she’s broken the rules and left to hunt in the forest. it’s a skill lost to the districts without water.

Seriously. I’m worried what you might break in the next couple movies. LoL! 😂

In the books all districts have a special area called the Victor's Village if I recall the name right. I could be remembering that name wrong. When someone wins The Hunger Games they and their family get to move into one of the mansions in the special village that are rewarded to winners and their families only. They also win extra food for a year for their entire district. Which is why the people of the winner's home district are so invested in the games. Yes, they are forced to watch but if their representative player wins then they all get to eat. Hamitch was the only living winner of district 12 for a very long time. He use to live the Victor's Village alone until Katnis and Peta won. And yes, Peta got his own mansion separate from Katnis. 🏹🖤

Oh no! You cut out her scene where she gives her speech to District 11! That's one of my favorite parts, makes me cry every time.

In the movies, they don’t really give all that much information as to what each district is known for other than District 12, which is coal mining. District four is somewhere along the coast, so fishing in anything that has to do with the sea, that is, why Finnick is able to wield that trident like it’s nothing.

Effie is not from district 1. Even though districts 1 and 2 are better off than the other districts, they are still not that fancy lol. She is from the Capital just like President Snow, Caesar (the tv host with blue hair) and Cinna. That's why she is dressed like that.

So Major, tell me what you think about the fact that the citizens in the capital were more upset over sending someone who was “pregnant”, over sending in children to kill each other?

Also peeta painted rue to remind katniss what she lost last time, and what she’s fighting for now. I think it was also to remind the guys watching him what they did.

seneca crane was killed by the capitol and it was peeta that painted rue on the floor, they both used their individual assessments to make a political point

Every quarter quell they did something different. For the 25th the district had to select their own tributes. For the 50th, Haymitch's year, they had double the tributes. Total of 48 instead of 24. And now the 75th. The Victor's are reaped. Can you imagine having your own district pick you? It's insane. And haymitch won with double the amount of tributes. It doesn't explain but he kind of used the arena to his advantage and killed the last tribute. I think he threw an axe at a force field and it came back and killed him if I remember right. The capitol didn't like that bc they kind of helped him. They killed his family and girlfriend for that.

When I say, this is still one of the best book to movie adaptations in modern times and I say it’s in my top five movies of all time, I’m not capping. It is an excellent movie. It is probably my favourite out of the four movies, the same way the book is my favourite out of the trilogy. President Snow probably has to be one of my favourite book villains because physically in the books themselves, he’s barely seen, but you always feel his presence. He’s always looming over Katniss and all the districts the same way the revolution and rebellion was always on the horizon. It was this inevitability, and Katniss just happened to be the one to break the dam. I do wish they had kept the disabilities Katniss and Peeta leave the games with… Katinas loses hearing in one of her ears, and I’m not sure which book it is also some of her hair get singed off Meanwhile, Peter loses his leg and so on top of these mental scars they carry from the games they now have these physical reminders

Not sure who you were referring to, but the actor who is from Blue Mountain State did in fact play Aquaman in the series Smallville.

Non spoiler context: This all takes place in an alternate future in Panem (whats left of north america, mostly the U.S and small portion of Canada). There are 12 districts, use to be 13. And then theres the Capitol. Its not part of the districts..but they do control them. Each district is responsible for providing resources to the Capitol. Which is why they're mostly so poor. Everything they have is taken. District 1 and 2 are much richer than the other districts because they supply things like luxury items and masonry and weapons manufacturing. Because of that they are given alot more freedom, and are considered like the teachers pets to the Capitol lol district 2 also supports the Capitol so much that they even become "peacekeepers" the soldiers in the white "power ranger" looking uniforms.

So sad that this was Phillip's last film. Rest in peace my guy!

Love your enthusiasm, as always! This is such a great series. Team Peeta all the way! If you haven't seen the OG Karate Kid trilogy movies, I'd highly recommend both them and the sequel series Cobra Kai on Netflix.

district 1 isn't actually the capitol, they're just the closest to and subsequently the wealthiest district with the most trained fighters

I love how for the skill presentation for the sponsors peeta chose to show his painting skills and drew rue on the floor and then we had katniss choosing to show she has the special skill of killing gamemaker 😂

Fun note... In the books quite a few tributes 'like peeta' don't know how to swim and have belt like floaties to get off their platforms giving them a disadvantage in the beginning...I'd love to see you react to a true classic like young Frankenstein... It's black n white but on purpose

I appreciate you chanting for Peeta when everyone else is chanting for Katniss! I know she's the star but she couldn't do all this without him. The "baby bomb" always makes me laugh and think about how people care more about unborn babies than living ones (like Rue). Mags is also one of my fave characters even though she is just in this one book. I see some commenters already said she won the 11th Hunger Games. I'd really love to know more about her Hunger Games--especially since the prequel book "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" takes place during the 10th Hunger Games, so just one year before Mags. I believe she is the oldest victor alive, she is certainly the oldest in the arena here. She's actually not mute in the books. Katniss just can't understand her accent. District 4 is fishing so the two from 4 are good allies to have in an arena with an ocean (ex Finnick knows CPR for drowning victims) and they can find food on the beach. In the books, Peeta actually can't swim because District 12 isn't near a body of water but Katniss's dad taught her in a lake outside the bounds, when he took her hunting when she was little, before he died.

it doesn't get clear in the movie, but thanks to the books we know that our boy Peeta killed Brutus

In the books, Peeta lost a leg after the first Hunger Games. They knew Katniss wouldn't be able to handle anything if Peeta wasn't safe. While she was focused on saving Peeta, everyone else was focused on saving her.

Good reaction. The books were published by Scholastic Books to teach middle school students about politics and war. They were completely surprised when it got picked up for movies.

The strip down in the elevator, when they were filming that, it took a while for them to get the timing down so she was done when the doors opened and when she finally got it, it went to the wrong floor so the doors opened up to a hotel worker (or guest, I don't recall) and Jenna Malone just kept on struttin. 😆

Amazing reaction. You get it. But, I'm going to have to break this to you: The shift in her face at the end is not anger, it's not her resolve. It's her realizing that she's responsible for the death of ~10,000 people and having a mental break. One of the most beautiful things about HG is that it's as much about trauma as it is about heroics.

Also mags is not his love. He did love her though. During the reaping, finicks girlfriend (who he adores and loves and who has also competed in the games which is why she was in the reaping) had been chosen. But mags had decided to volunteer in place of her, so she was spared. Idk if finick volunteered for the males or if he was just picked, but it would be sweet if he did. Maybe he did it to protect the woman who saved the love of his life.

You need to have one of those rubber boxing men in the corner of your room so you can wail on something when you get pissed 😆

Side note: While District 1 is the wealthiest of the Districts, it's not where Effie came from. The Capitol is where the Games are held and just like District 12, they also participate from the Games.

Peeta drew the rue mural, as a tribute to her and as a way to simeltaneously place guilt on the game maker and to leave something beautiful in that room for once. She did the Seneca cray dummy thing as a way of telling the random makers that no closed window, locked door. Or powerful force field will protect even them from president snow if they should happen to be unfortunate enough to cross President Snow...

I've been Team Peeta since the beginning! Jennifer Lawrence does a good job portraying Katniss as she clearly has PTSD from being in the first Hunger Games. And then her and Peeta having to go through the games again. And here we're introduced to one of my favorite characters, Finnick Odair. On to "Mockingjay Part 1". This movie doesn’t feel as horrifying because the majority of the contestants are adults. In the first one, the children were literally small children. It was absolutely disgusting to consider. Katniss and Peeta are still technically 17 ish but they seem much more mature because of the trauma they’ve already survived. Mags volunteered for Finnick’s girlfriend, Annie, who was picked and she was a little crazy from her games. And mags basically raised Finnick after he won. So it’s a lot of drama in that district.

Yeah where they live now is the victors village which every district has. Theirs only has three occupied homes.Peeta,haymitch, and her and her family.

Effie is from the capital not district one. Every district is treated unfairly but 1 & 2 just get a chance to train their recruits.

I love The Hunger Games series it’s my favorite book series, if you enjoy reading I highly recommend it. It’s way better than movies and even if you know what happens you get a lot more context and more interesting concept than in the movies. A new series idea also The Walking Dead.
