After a botched operation years ago, it was said to be unlikely that Julie Andrews would ever be able to sing again (she's a legendary singer -- have you seen The Sound of Music? Highly recommend). In the scene where she sings at Mia's slumber party, everyone on set was crying to hear her sing again.

Fun fact: the fan scene wasn't scripted. They just needed something to pad the run time, so they had free reign to do whatever, and came up with this. Hence why when she went to sit down, the chair rolled away from her

I'm on the opposite side. I can appreciate the first one better. This one is just too cheesy, cgi sucks. I could be never get into it. I prefer the 2001 original

26:30 Funny enough, a lot of people have been trying to look for the connection as to why Stan Lee makes an appearance, since all of us knows that his thing is to appear briefly in the Marvel films. Actually, his appearances in everything before X-Men and Spiderman movies is actually meant to highlight that he has no personal connection to the movie he appears in. He has appeared in several other universes/movies/tv shoes just randomly which was his thing even before the MCU cameos began. Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, Superman (The Animated series), Nikita, here in The Princess Diaries 2, and more! While seeking for the connection between all of these cameos, there in fact, is not an obvious connection. Stan Lee appears... because he wants to and can. May he RIP.

Fun fact: The kid who danced with Mia in the beginning of the movie is the real brother of the girl who was being bullied during the parade. They are Spencer and Abigail Breslin

"Viscount Mabrey : Sir, you will find that the word "fear" is not in my vocabulary! Joe : Perhaps... but it's in your eyes." This is possibly one of my favourite lines in a movie. Joe is such a badass and the best character in this series! Also John Rhys-Davies (i.e Gimli) makes a great villain no?

The part where Julie Andrews singing at the sleepover was a VERY big deal. Julie Andrews is known for her musicals and we all grew up hearing her sing in Mary Poppins and Sound of Music, etc, but she had throat surgery in the early 2000's and it was said/worried that she would never be able to sing again. It was heartbreaking. So the lead-up to this movie was "She will sing!!"

12:00 Actually, I thought it was subtle but also a funny reference that when we see the Baron's profile appear. It says he's from Salzburg, Austria. Julie Andrews played Maria in The Sound of Music which was set in Austria. So I thought it was a nice tribute/reference to that movie. A little bit of a sad fact... Julie Andrews lost her full singing voice when throat surgery went wrong in 1997. She used to be a Soprano but when the surgery went wrong, it took her life down a different path. As she states in The Sound of Music, when one door closes, another window opens. The surgery failed and she lost her Soprano voice, but she still was inspired to continue her career in a different way for us. She can still sing, which is amazing, just not like before anymore. But she is still one of the best Queens ever. Fictional or not.

Well, about the Diary-Situation at hand: The original books are quite different, here, Mia tells the story by writing in her diary - but the storylines are also quite different

If I remember well, Genovia is somewhere close to the Méditerranée between France and Italy. Maybe it's a principality like Monaco. I think they speak french and also english because the woman who gives the watermelon speaks half in french and what Mia's maids sing for distract the Queen is a french nursery rhyme called " Frère Jacques " (Brother Jack). I learnt it myself when I was a child.
