This is if it was the 80's. The Actor has been told to work with an 80's vibe. Unlike the film which was 80's vibe at times, was more about how to make the scene look cool, which Jackie did brilliantly.
@The Law This. The reason his speech balloons are so weird is that he is mumbling. The master himself does it better: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4SNKRo0Zalk.html
@@nunabisness7191 That's the thing. Audiobooks are the same, they don't hire women to do the female voices, everything is read by one person. It's like in kindergarten when your teacher would read a story to the class and do all the voices themselves.
All the voices sound the same including the women because the point is that the narrator is reading the comic. Is like a boy reading the comic and making the different voices in his mind. Is not an animated movie, is a comic.
But even so, he could have a done better job on making the female voices, I mean really, he's not even struggling to pitch his voice up a bit. That's a bit strange, especially when you first hear Laurie speaking, I went from hell what a good voice rorschach has to hell what's wrong with Laurie's voice.
He? This isn't some dude reading the comic. This is a professional actor. Watchmen Motion comic written by Alan Moore released as 12 episodes for TV & web released as a DVD in 2009 to hype the Watchmen movie.
If you ask me, this introductory sequence, with intercutting between investigation and flashbacks of the fight is WAY better than what we got in the movie. I always get chills at the "Ground floor, coming up" line.
That's just how Zach Snyder is with his movies, the original film was 89% faithful to the source material and the 4 hour edition made it by an extra 4% so either way the movie by ol Zachy boy was just as good as this.
I actually like Rorschach's voice in this better than the movie. This one just sounds more...natural. Jackie had a great rasp but this is much more nuanced. But yeah...Silk was a little off-putting ...
I can watch the whole series a billion times over and be fascinated every time... A fitting "best" motion comic, for the "best" graphic novel... These guys should do this with "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" that's another Alan Moore novel that would be magic if they made it into a motion comic like this.
It's great but it loses something without all the supplemental material found at the end of each issue. Also, little bits of dialogue are missing here and there for some reason.
@@josephlopez132 , I mean, you have to see from his point of view: studios already ruined From Hell, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Killing Joke, and V for Vendetta. And even Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, while staying pretty accurate, fails to understand most of the characters and themes (though I will stay the movie was better than the HBO series). So his distaste for Hollywood studios while a extreme, is quite true. I mean, studios are ruining most superhero characters and they claim that their changes are to “bring representation”, but that slowly is shown to be BS.
Introductory credits clearly state that it's narrated by Tom Stechschulte Everyone in the comments section is utterly amazed that the animated comic is narrated by one guy. For people who are fans of comics, y'all sure don't like to READ.
@Stellvia Hoenheim That's a bit much, don't you think? They're cunts just because they prefer a motion comic to have more than one voice actor, which most motion comics already do?
@@gamenrnunez0100 There's no reason we can't hold it to the same level as every other motion comic ever made. The fact that it's free now doesn't make it immune to criticism. Nor does it mean they didn't get any money out of it when it was first released in 2008.
Controversial take, I like this voice for Rorschach than the movie. Don't get me wrong, I think Jackie Earle Haley did a spectacular job, but he had the similar problem I had with Christian Bale's batman. The voice is a bit too over the top, with him constantly grunting and growling. This one though, is much more subtle. He talk more quietly and dosen't inflict too much emotion, which I feel fits the character much more.
The Watchmen characters are all based on characters pre created from Charlton Comics. Rorschach = Question Nite Owl = Blue Beetle Comedian = Peace maker Dr. Manhattan = Captain Atom Silk Spectre = Nightshade Ozymandias = Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt
If this was Marvel, these characters would be based on: Rorschach = Daredevil, Moon Knight, Punisher Nite Owl = Spider-Man Comedian = Captain America/U.S. Agent Dr. Manhattan = Sentry 2000, Vision, Silk Spectre = Black Widow, Wasp Ozymandias = Tony Stark
It’s tru for most people. Most of us just cover it up! Some are better at it than others. not showing that they are unhealthy, mentally, physically, or spiritually! (Broken) wearing a mask, concealing they’re true-self, and or pain. The comic is all about the human condition, and psyche!
@@dodec8449 Read by an amazingly good actor. Not everything should easily explicit, we're supposed to be grown ups capable of abstraction and of appreciating great acting...
@@dodec8449 Not really. Motion comics have much more production value put behind them than most audio books do. Besides having animation, it also has a soundtrack, sound effects, audio editing, video editing, directing, a budget, a crew, even an IMDB page, and (while Watchmen doesn't) most Motion comics tend to have more than one voice actor. I really don't like this idea that people compare Motion comics to Audio books. I think it severely devalues the medium.
@@lepapanouwel4663 I found it interestingly and telling your wording, "Try reading..." I know that Moore despises DC expanding on his landmark work, but Im' willing to give it a try
They are all mentally unstable. Ozymandias is a guy who believes he, alone, can handle the fate of humankind; so obsessed with a historical character that killed millions of people to fulfill his obsession and hid it with an excuse. Rorschach is a man who releases his anger from his childhood into society; he has seen the worst of humanity and has decided to fight against, but he also defends the horrible acts of his political party. Comedian has seen the worst of humanity as well, but he chose to be part of it. Night Owl is a guy who inherited a lot of money and was so obsessed with vigilantes that he spent his money on it, and has a costume fetish, is basically a teenager. Dr. Manhattan is so powerful that he got bored and didn't really care about anything since he already knows what's going to happen. Laurie Juspeczyk was probably the most normal of them, but she is complicated as hell; she denied that the man she hates the most is also his father, hating the fact that her mother slept with the man who tried to rape her; plus, she never had a choice since her mother tried to control her life, later being in a relationship with a human atomic bomb, and when she is sad going to fuck with the first man she knew. That's Moore thesis: if vigilantes existed, they would be probably crazy. We're talking about people who wear Halloween costumes to fight against crime, and that later decide the fate of the world.
I think this idea must be used more. Maybe trying something with v for Vendetta or maus or something. Or use the idea of animate comics and do an animation like this but animating only the strips
repealthepatriotact Dude, it's a motion comic, not an animation. The idea of motion comics is to capture the original art, style and mood of the comic while also making it come to life. It's not supposed to look state of the art. It's for the people who enjoy the story and visuals, but want to experience it with a more modern twist. hence the train wreck" animation and "horribly executed" voice work. Fans of Alan Moore's masterpiece should appreciate this even more due to the quality. It means that a small group of dedicated people wanted to pay homage to the original work's genius.
repealthepatriotact No, it's not poorly made. The effects are nice and comic booky, which is the way it's supposed to be. And the ONE guy who voices all of the characters did a fantastic job! And even if it *was* poorly made, it's free!
It’s insane to me how the beginning of this story is almost the complete same reference to the last. That shows you how perfect Alan Moore/the writers made this.
confusing as heck when "she" was talking about the skirt and low neckline i thought it was him! and i was like: wait, why was night owl dressed that way?!?!?!?
I got the comic for Christmas 2019 and finally realized that some dialogue was cut such as the part about Rorschach’s journal where he mentions his father
Yeah, it mildly bothers me that they didn't get a girl to do a girl's part. I get why, it's supposed to be like an audiobook where 1 person does all the voices. But for a novel like Watchmen, it doesn't fit IMO.
I like that they animated Rorschach's Rorschachs. I always wondered what made them move, the comic explains that it's a material technology made possible by Dr Manhattan. That Kovak's made it out of a woman's dress that was never collected from the tailors he works at.
I heard one insane theory that Watchmen and the "alternate 1985" from back to the future 2 exist in the same timeline, because both take place in October 1985, and have Richard Nixon running for five terms.
I’m being honest when I say this: Although this graphic novel was unprecedented in its narrative and presentation, etc., and the artwork by Dave Gibbons was both highly creative and unique (for the time), I prefer the Director’s Cut by Zack Snyder as the penultimate “Watchmen” experience. The graphic novel never sat well with me in various places and for various reasons that I could elaborate on endlessly, but for brevity’s sake, I’ll just say this: Film > Graphic Novel It’s the exact opposite for the way I feel about “AKIRA”: most laude how great and legendary the animated feature was, but hardly speak about how far superior and in-depth the manga was. People are weird, I suppose. Whatever.
You can´t imagine how much I love this and all the effort you invest to create it! At first hearing Laurie´s voice I thought: "WTF!" - but then I realized is just cool the way it is. Also in ancient Greece theatre males used to perform as women, so that works fine. Can´t wait to see the rest! I ask myself how you actually did it. Maybe you can make a video in which you explain how does it work.
this was originally done by DC itself, way before the film. For some reason, Behind the Lot removed it. Luckily, Kyle captured these before the whole thing was lost. BUT if you like this, you'll enjoy RED SON and MAD LOVE that was STILL on 'Behind the Lot' here on RU-vid.
@@TheCommonGentry wait seriously! If this is done by DC officially, then how the hell they couldn't hire more voice actors? is they were running out of budget lol
@@v-trigger6137 i think it's was an artistic choice; that or WATCHMEN was their first thing slotted for motion comics. But RED SON and MAD LOVE have distinct VAs.
"in ancient Greece theater males"? and you realized people don't do it now because it's campy as hell, right? I chuckle every time it was Silk specter's turn.
I feel stupid for asking this, but is Rorschach doing with the clothes Hanger? I’ve always wondered what he was doing, like is he checking how big it is?
He used the hanger as a measuring stick because the wall on the left side of the closet goes back further than the right side. The. He found the button that opens the secret room.
God i know the 2009 film did the comic justice but i would still love to see a D.C. Animated film Adaptation of the Watchmen and maybe give it an R rating
HEY! I just figured it out! I'll fix the audio myself. I'll grab the audio from this, and raise the pitch for the female characters, then save it out as a separate file and listen to that instead. Maybe I'll post the results on RU-vid?
Damn, can't believe the RU-vidr even made a 3D model to animate this... and it is even from 3 yrs ago! Really needed this since Watchman is the option I choose for my G12 Book club 🤗
Agreed. Personally, I kinda despise the guy, his philosophy, and opinions (most of the time). I tend to separate the artist from his work. You're right: he's a damn good storyteller, but I prefer Snyder's very close film adaptation to the source material. Moore provided the characters, story, and setting, Snyder streamlined and improved upon what worked best visually and plot-wise (Snyder's ending was so much better IMHO). People have tried to force my hand and change my mind in this regard, but it's a futile effort. I like what I like and that's that.
This wasn't bad , but I imagined Veidts voice way different and Laurie's voice... lol that was something. Haha but nun the less this was pretty good :)
I always hated how the "modern" cigarettes look like meth pipes. Otherwise (which isn't ur fault thats the source material) u did a FANTASTIC job. Only detail that could've been improved on was hiring a female voice actor for the female roles. Hearing Laurie with that voice kinda kills the the immersion
I'm really not sure what Dr Manhattan is smiling at. Is he smiling that he was able to fix the building, is it symbolic of Manhattan being interested in the world or is it *SPOILERS* the plan to save humanity is falling in place?
It's probably his ability to see the future when *SPOILER* Laurie and Dan end up together and he sees them sleeping next to each other, even though he is heart broken, he was willing to smile for his friends happiness in each other, a satisfaction he could not provide for Laurie.
Is “motion comic” the casual term for these things? I remember a while back watching a bunch of X-Men, and various other comics, that were voiced but not animated and I can’t seem to find them now. Not sure if they’ve been removed or if I’m just not using the right search terms
Why did you guys leave out the 2nd part of the opening speech by Rorschach? "...and I'll look down, and whisper "no." They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father, or President Truman. Decent men, who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and Communists and didn't realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don't tell me they didn't have a choice. Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers... and all of a sudden, nobody can think of anything to say." That's one of the best parts. It creates the setting.
