This is why i started a RU-vid channel... regular people helping regular people... My water heater is 18 years old and I need to perform this maintenance trick about ever 2-3 years... Just did it again and we are back in action. Thank you sir! Super Thanks Sent!

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ru-vid.comUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Never, ever in my DIY internet problem solving video watching life have I come across a video that exactly and precisely and COMPLETELY solved my problem absolutely perfectly. I followed your simple instructions and I was back in business in 5 minutes. BEST VIDEO EVER if your flame sensor is dirty and your hot water heater is busted and your repairman wants $200 to take a look at it and by the way, he won't come by until tomorrow. THANK YOU!

Thank You ! I have the exact water heater with the exact problem. You just saved me approx $2000.000 . I’m a retired general, plumbing and flooring contractor. Because of heavy lifting throughout the 45 years working in the trades, I have sever spinal cord damage. There are many things I can’t do anymore which leaves me at the mercy of trades people who would rather replace than repair and help people. I was able to manage this maintenance repair by myself. It helped that you happen to have demonstrated on my exact water heater. Thank you so much. It’s good to know there are honest tradesmen still out there. Please excuse the grammar and punctuation errors if any. I’m an old guy.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a State/A O Smith water heater that was doing the same thing you described. After one cold shower I got on youtube and found your video. 20 minutes later the water heater is fixed with no parts needing replacing and the water is already heating back up. I was prepared to replace the heater because it is 19 years old but now it is working fine. You saved me at least $1K but probably more like $2K. Thanks!

I really appreciate your video. I have a home owner's warranty. They sent a guy out and he said I needed a whole new water heater. After arguing for a day about the cost of the replacement, I decided to look at it myself. (I all a do it yourself guy, but I figured I'd let the warranty handle it). I followed your directions and the heater is fixed. Literally 15min and no more grief. Thank you. This was the best Father's Day present yet!

Just realized this video was posted 10 years ago but it saved my holiday week. Got exact same issues with my water heater before Christmas Eve and couldn't find any plumbers. Dude, you just saved me days of cold showers and $150. Minimum for a service call, not to mention unnecessary parts they probably would have put in it for nothing. My water heater is 9 years old and this is the first time it gave me problems. I could hear it kick on and off in the living room yesterday and didn't think much about it until i got home from work to take a cold shower. It took me all of 15 minutes tops and it kicked in and stayed on. That sensor didn't even really look bad at all but it must have been just enough. I thank you a million times over. You are my new HERO! 😊

Just wanted to say thank you for this video! It described my problem exactly. The extent of my trouble shooting knowledge was to unplug it and plug it back in (I'm a woman). When that failed, I called my very handy dad and brother, who both have electric heaters. They were at a loss as to how to help. Your video gave me the instructions, and after 10 minutes and not even having a wrench, I was successful!! As another commenter said, the nut for my gas pipe was also backwards, but everything else went smoothly. I'm no longer "just a girl." Thanks again!

Thank you Thank you Thank you! We had a plumber come out a couple days ago who said we had a $900+ fix on our hands and should just buy the $3000 replacement. I found this video and had it fixed in 30 minutes start to finish. I used 150 grit sandpaper since that is all I had and it is working great now! With 9 people (5 of them girls) living in our house, going without hot water is a disaster....you've saved us.

Thank you so much for this video. For 3 months now we were using our 2nd water heater as the main one had not been working. Our neighbor had the exact same issue and the plumber changed the water heater for a tune of $1400.00. So I was reluctant to do anything. I ran across your video and decided to give it a try. Wow it worked like a charm. You saved our family a lot of money. I really appreciate your help.

I searched the web for a solution to my Intelli-Vent issue a year ago. I thought it was a wiring problem up near the vent because it was intermittent and fiddling with the wires could get it running for a couple of days more. This time I'm very glad I saw your video. I'm pretty sure my problem is solved, at least until the sensor needs cleaning again in a few years. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for making this video.

Best Video instructions!!! We have the A O Smith gas water heater which was giving "System in Lockout" error. One Plumbing company I called said they will have to replace the igniter plate (shown in this video) which will cost me $300/-. I followed this video step by step. There was a lot of dirt settled on the igniter plate which I emptied in a garbage can. Put the assembly back and started the water heater. It started working just like its new! . And I just saved $300/- Many thanks!!!!!

Have been living with this problem for nearly two years. Sometimes unplugging it would work, other times not. Whats worse is we don't even own the damn thing so a service call wouldn't cost us anything. I just don't want to have to clean up my furnace room before having guests lol. This tip took all of 5 minutes and presto it fired up and stayed on. You rock.

I just paid a plumber $54 dollars to diagnose and clean my unit due to the exact problem you described. The price is very low due to a coupon but the unit started doing the same thing 24 hours after he came. I was complaining if you want anything done right do it yourself. So I went online and Googled the problem and found your video. Ironically watching it took longer then the actual repair :). The unit is working perfectly! TYVM!

Very informative. I was able to clean and service our hot water heater on my own. I wore gloves to avoid getting "oils" on the ignitor. Saved our family over $100 in a service call alone. Thank you!

Thank u for the flame sensor sanding tip, i knew that it was the problem, just didn't want to mess with it without knowing what to do, and it was very discolored, I gave it a good sanding and here we are, as good as new and the flame is on from the first time. Thank u again.

Holy cow..!!! Thanks so much for sharing this...bought a replacement intellivent last year, and it started doing the same thing...pretty much right away...had to hit the intellivent with a rubber mallet ( softly) to get the thing to stay fired up...now it's working perfectly...awesome !!!

Add me to the list of happy DIY'ers that fixed their water heater with this method. Pulled out the flame sensor, sanded it clean and shiny, and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help!!

Amid the Coronavirus lockdown, we are on a wait list for service. Using your guidance, we were able to fix this ourselves. We have this problem happen at least once a year - always the same issue. Thank you soooooooooo much! Be well!

This is a GREAT video. Turns out, we did not have enough gas/pressure coming into the building. We had 2.5 inches of water collumn and the unit needs at least 5.0. So the gas company is coming out to check. Thanks again! Great job!
