Correction: suminagashi was from China not Japan. It is called "water ink art" and originated in China 2000 years ago. It first came to Japan in 12 century.

May I ask, is the water in the pan/trough make up of any special mixture? Do you pretreat the silk? What type of silk do you use? When you remove the scarves from the water after applying the paint, what do you rinse it in? Do you rinse? Do you need to "set" the paint somehow. Thank you
