I just found something that I didn’t realize you could do when watching these videos on the iPad. I wanted to see the details of the petals near the center and I was able to pinch and zoom in the video and see even better how Debbie was laying in the darker colors.😅
Yes…it’s brilliant isn’t it !! Did you also know on your iPad you can change the speed….so if you wanted to slow it down, for example, click on top of the screen where you will see an icon that looks like a cog wheel. Scroll down to where it says ‘playback speed’…..and you can adjust it from there.
This is absolutely stunning. I think it is my favorite of all of the videos of yours I have seen to far. I am very excited to attempt to paint this. Thank you for sharing this video.
My pleasure, It is now becoming that time of year I paint them again, and have a few ideas after my Mermaid, seahorse and shells videos. I tell you just not enough time in the day for me to paint all I want too! Have fun, I am happy to share the drawing if you email me too friend.
🌟 ✨Debbie✨I must say this is a spectacular, stunning piece of artwork that you have created here! You are so talented and kind to share your beautiful artwork with us on RU-vid! I wish to personally thank you for sharing your LOVE for ART all around the world!! I ❤ your Sunflower 🌻 ❤
Thanks so much 😊Im so very happy these are fun for you, and hopefully sharing some good tips to support you in your watercolor journey. Most of all have fun, give things your unique spin and touch. I too have a love of Sunflowers, such a grand, happy flower! Thank you for your support Ranie xo
I hadn't practiced gradient washes for awhile Debbie and its been very helpful. Unless I missed it somewhere in the video, I found I cannot get a damp brush by just scraping off the water on the meeden waterwell. I have to dab it on my towel before going to the paper or there's too much water. I apologize if I missed that between the two videos but it really helped that I noticed you doing it on this video. Thanks for making your set up visible. Blessings my dear teacher. 💗Rita
Im glad it helped Rita. I feel its different for everyone too, some are scrapers, some are dabbers (like me I dab my brush constantly on my towel) The tapping on edge of the well seems to be a very visible indicator of the liquid coming out of the belly of the brush too and creates awareness of just how much is in there and we are bringing to our paper, no wonder we cant control it! :-) Thte softer brushes I tend to scrape as they hold so much water, such as my Princeton Neptune. My Velvetouch I dont ahve to really scrape a little dab or tap does it!. Its such a feel isnt it? Have fun Rita! Always love your thoughts and input here.
Thank you Dottie! I see you in our FB group too. I hope you give this a try, I LOVE painting Sunflowers, they are such a happy flower Happy painting, most of all enjoy and have fun!
Thank you Cathy, That made my evening. Im so happy to hear I am able to provide some insights, tieps, techniques and hopefully inspiration! Happy painting, YOU are I promise you just havent made friends with her yet :-) I do have an online REALLY BEGINNERS course if you would like, Its nice because you can watch it at your pace, theirs worksheets, my intention was to take the challenging, intimidating stuff and make it simple! Take a peek. debbie-walker.mykajabi.com/offers/RkXzKGF6 Thank you for being here with me Cathy, Meanwhile lots of free stuff for you to peruse too!
Im thrilled to hear that. I hoped when I took on this process on youtube to inspire New beginners to give watercolors a try, and past watercolor artists to come back! Im glad my teaching style is help8ing you. Lets keep learning, creating and painting together! Have fun most of all.
This is gorgeous Debbie ~ I love this~ adding glases just popped out that sunflower 🌻 It became fluffy kinda! Lol! In a good way! Great idea for texture in the middle of the flower too! Hopefully, I can do this one soon! I also dab off extra water to wear my paper towel is soaking wet! Lol! So, we are not the only ones doing this~ much love ❤️✝️🙏🏻
Hi Tina, lol, yes I have also a small wash towel on my desk, because I dab off my brush so much. Much loe friend, Paint on! Lets keep creating together! xo
Im glad it helped, i created a quick tutorial yesterday too on water control, washes, loaded your brush in hope it ight share a few things and help prepare for this lovely Sunflower today. Happy painting friend, most of all have fun!
Wonderful Julie, Im happy to hear that~ I LOVE layering it creates such interesting colors and really spotlights the magic that is watercioors like no other medium (Im a bit biased but do think this) Happy painting friend, have fun!
I really appreciate your reminders to rinse our brush and tap when we pick up pigment! I had no idea how important it is. Your sunflower is so beautiful. I wish I had found your channel years ago! You share so many tips, that others do not.
I am so happy it helps, I still hear this in my head when I am loaded my brush. Never go straight into your painting directly from your wells, always tap, tap, tap your brush to get that extra liquid off your brish. Unless you are intentionally wanting to use wet on wet, washy, no definition, but a very wet in wet look. I saw practice tap, tap, tap and damp in damp Much easiser to control for beginers and what I mostly use still.
Thank you Jen,, never too late :-). I hope you enjoy this, I also shared a wash and water control short video the day before I hope it helps. Have fun most of all!
Wonderful! I'm so glad I have a free drawing as well. You can either find it on my Community tab or email me for it. (Or maybe you are a skillful drawer~) Happy painting, and most of all, have fun!
Im so glad to hear that because im not a tech person and may not figure it out any time soon~. I love to watch real time artists as well, I like the natural pass, and maybe bloopers, authenticity. Im glad it didn't distract you from the beautiful Sunflower. Happy painting friend and most of all have fun!
THANK YOU!!! I learned so very much watching you and listening to you explanations of what you were doing!! I never took art classes through high school. My art had always been singing and there wasn't enough time in the school day to add painting. Ive recently (the last few years) , have been really wanting to learn watercolor. It's been a learning process, just on having the right materials to do it with. Thank you for the lessons on technique!!! This will really help me!! I will have to do some playing with my paints now😊
I love hearing that. It sounds like you definately are a creator (I Never could sing :- didnt stop me but....) WAtercolors definately is unique in its qualities and magic. I hope you fall in loe with it, when you get a confidence with the few techniques I think you could learn to love what it can do~ Happy painting friend. Take a peek at my Welcome Beginners playlist, it might have some good tips in there for you. ru-vid.com/group/PLGvRyB1lQxymyefAW8WOtx6r2eouR3Zi6&si=r1XtoSnzqXvciFxn Most of all hvae fun~
Thanks Pauline, Im happy my tutorials are enjoyable for you. I sure enjoy being here with you all. I hope to continue sharing and teaching lots of fun things! Happy painting friend, most of all enjoy this beautiful medium
Im happy it helped. I hope you will give them a try, dont forget the technique tutorial from yesterday, it may h ave some helpful techniques for this. Happy painting friend, and always have fun~
Thaks Nesa, I hoep you give it a try. I love painting these sunflowers They just make you happy. Have fun if you try~ I hope to continue to create with you!
Thank you Helene, very kind of you, I hope you will give it a try. If you would like the drawing you can email me too. debbiewalkerart@gmail.com My gift :-) Happy creating friend.
Thank you for the real time lesson. ..and no music. It gives me the time to see the full process, and how you’re going into right brain thinking. So many of the RU-vid lessons are now sped up and they use ‘sleeping pill elevator music’. Both are so distracting. From my experience, no teacher, in a formal classroom, would ever speed up their lessons or use sleeping music. So, thank you. You’re a rare find. Please, don’t speed up your videos.
I understand. Its interesting to me, because like you I do learn best from the real time videos. I do m y best to create both a s nippet short of the real time, becaue interestingly so many love those fast videos! I do admit I LOE music, but only in the fun shorts. Sometimes even takes me more time to choose music that makes me happy than the actual snippet of the painting~ lol. I aprpeciate your kind words and very happy I am bringing you some fun tips, and I will first and foremost always have the real time videos aS I enjoy m aking them, sharing them and also as you I enjoy most :-) Happy painting friend, lets keep learning and creating together :-)
This is a beautiful piece. Can't wait to try it. A suggestion (take or leave) is it possible to zoom in your camera a bit more to make it easier to see your brush strokes? I tend to zoom in myself on these videos (not just yours, but other watercolor artists' as well), but it would be better for creators to film a bit closer up from the get go.
Hi Sim, I try to appease everyone, others want to see my palette, water well, how I load my brush, Ive been lately holding the painting up to the camer so you can see my brushstrokes. AND this year (im a bit tech challenged) Im hoping to learn some different camera angles, editing so I can use two camers, cut and splice together, like the prod do! Im not there yet, the last 10 months here on RU-vid have been a huge learning curve in everyway! Stay tunted. :-) Happy painting friend,
I love watching you and your valuable advice, you’re a good teacher. Can I ask what paints you are using for this painting, because you wet your watercolour set but the palette you are using look like tube paints. I’m a little confused, I have just bought the Mei Lieng set and thought you would be using those.
I use the MeiLiang Pan set, I do fill my palette with the MeiLiang tubes too. (Which one of you just shared with me i had not seen them) amzn.to/47qbGCy This is an affiliate link I earn a small percentage with no cost to you. I hope this helps. I have both the MeiLiang set with metallics amzn.to/3LLHHMS and the smaller 36 set. They are both wonderful :-) I hope that helps, Have fun!
`I'm new to your channel & new to painting and to water color. You do beautiful work and I'm so happy to have found you. You are exactly what I've been looking for. Your rolling eraser is genius! Did you purchase it or did you create it out of some material? How can I get one? Thanks.
Welcome welcome🌸🎨 I’m always so happy when I’m found here in this vast world of wonderful watercolor artist thrilled to have you here. I use a few different erasers, but absolutely love the needed eraser here’s a link for you. amzn.to/4cjbdoW by the way, these last I’m not kidding forever ! I am an Amazon affiliate, and earn a small percentage from your purchase with no additional cost to you, so thank you in advance for using my link 🥰🎨
Yes I do! :-) They are my favorite I have been purchasing for years, and now creating my Watercolors & Wildflowers custom palette. Happy painting friend!
Hi~ I have been designing and purchasing them from M.istcereamics on Etsy for my personal use and my in-person workshops. They are so inspiring and beautiful. She told me that she doesn't have any right now and doesn't make them often as they are a bit time-consuming. I usually buy several at a time. You can reach out to her, you never know when she is making more :-)
I find on some petals I am using too much water still. So some petals are lighter. You mentioned that I could make them darker. Do I go through the same steps as the beginning? Hopefully that makes sense.
Hi Carrie, Practice creating a dark/id/light value of the color. The ratios of water to pigment is: Darkest value 80/20 = 80% pigment 20% water Mid value 50/50 = 50% pigment 50% water Lightest value 20/80 20% pigment 80% water. ONce you get this mixture in your well, fill your brush, NEXT this is the important part, tap, tap, tap, off the belly of your brush on side of your wll, see the liquid come out and go into your well. Now you can go into your painting with a damp brush, not a fully loaded brush. When you apply your paint to your petal, leaf etc, it should not leave a puddle, if it does, tap, tap, tao your rush on the side of your wel again. I hope this helps!
I was going to create a 2.50 kit, but haven't had the time yet. (anything tech takes me some time :) If you email me I am happy to send to you. Debbiewalkerart@gmail.com :-)
